I'm Canadian and I love our Queen! Some British relatives of a friend of mine recently visited Canada and seemed really surprised that the Queen was on our money. I don't think many Brits realise that the Queen is a national symbol outside of the UK.

@canadian1000 Strange how things turned out. The English civil war (1642-1651) removed the king as head of state, but then they came to realise that a king could be retained as a method of filling the power vacuum. It seems that the most stable countries have retained monarchies, whilst the most unstable countries are republics.

Too much to thank Him for, but as for HM the Queen, she helped rally a flagging people through WWII, she has shown class and character and fortitude all her life and has been a positive example of statesmanship and grandeur throughout her reign. And even if she has done nothing personally, she authorizes each act of Parliament and is the head of state of my country. I am very proud of that. Long live HM Elizabeth II by the grace of God, Queen of Canada.

Made of potatoes, carrots, cabbage and stewed meat. It's a delicious, you ought to try it. Clearly your hatred for Ireland has indeed repelled you towards eating it. @Irishstew97 The fact that you are even saying this shocks me. God is a matter of Religion, and in the 21st century, religion and state have been separated. God does Nothing for you. The Queen, however, if you live in a Commonwealth Realm, protects your rights as a citizen of that country. She protects your right to healthcare, freedom of speech, and the right to live in a lawful state. Most importantly, she protects you from the prime minister, by ensuring that all bills are constitutional.

Parliamentary democracy works, without a monarch. Replace the monarch with a lump of coal, and you have the same outcome.

@Irishstew97 Well, your argument seems to be based in blatant idealism instead of an actual analysis of Canada's(and other commonwealth realm's)political system. The parallel you drew with god does not apply, as the queen takes an active role in upholding the constitution and the charter of rights an freedoms.

It is true that any apolitical leader would function in the same way, but why discard a piece of our heritage and culture and replace it with something that has the same function?
