That woman was lucky! If that car had exploded there would have been two victims instead of one and she could have ended up killing more people. She's not a hero, just a woman who didn't think of her own safety and the safety of the people around her. If the woman noticed the truck wanted to overtake her then why didn't she just pull over?

@fordtristan The only person responsible for endangering lives was the dumbass who crossed the center line. It's not the woman's responsibility to get out of his way. If he's in a hurry, that's his problem. Even she pulled off (which would also have created a hazard), he would have just ended up behind another car due to the heavy traffic.

Plus, how did this woman endanger the people around her by helping? Were extra body parts going to fly into the crowd if the car exploded?

@allgood2000 Pulling off would not have created as much of a hazard as a driver overtaking her. Running up to the car like that makes her a victim as well because she wouldn't leave the car. She was no better than the unconscious man. Then she yelled for help and forced other bystanders to come to her aid. If the car had exploded then herself, her daughter, and that other man would have all been additional victims.

@fordtristan 1) If another driver overtook it her, it would be their fault, not hers. The person in front has the right of way, and it is the person behind's responsibility to maintain a safe following distance. Pulling off and on to a two-lane road when heavy traffic is going 55 is more hazardous than just going with the flow of traffic.

2) She didn't "force" anyone to help. Everyone there had a choice: they could stand back and watch like chicken shit, or they could grow a pair and go help.

Funny how the engine was where the fire started, but when it shows the car, the middle is burning... I know its only a reinactment though. Thats a rare car these days, but in the late 80s, not so much. It was probably a totally different type of car that was in the actual crash.

I love how everyone runs and waves the crews in as if they wont realize that there was an accident there unless someone was standing on the side of the road waving. Cars scattered everywhere, a huge cloud of smoke, vehicle on fire and traffic completely stopped, none of that is any indication that there was something wrong.

I was just telling a friend about this old episode of Rescue 911 about this woman who saved a man from a burning car while those other chicken shit bastard's just looked on and wouldn't help this woman out any!!! I love this woman for what she did and I remember this episode from when I was in junior high school. God bless her where ever she is today.

I have been the first person on the scene in two car accidents and I stopped and helped the victim both times. I always think please God don't let someone be burning in a car because I know I would jump right in and save them. Your adrenaline is pumping and you just don't think about it, you just do it . . . at least that is what I did both times.

Most cars back then were an extreme fire hazard. This problem has for the most part been corrected. Car fires these days are rarer as most modern vehicles have protective shields were the most likely fire hazards will be but this isnt 100% car fires are still possible but rarer

I decided to do some five-minute research about exploding cars, and this is what I found...

"Even when a wrecked car catches on fire it rarely explodes....Most fires start in the engine compartment and will not spread backwards to the gas tank area unless the tank is leaking fuel on the ground. Again a whole series of events has to be just right for an explosion to occur."
