  • Superbly crafted (dare I say "wholesome") entertainment that certainly buoyed the spirits of an America still held in the grip of a world at war. Truly great stuff!

  • Superbly crafted (dare I say "wholesome") entertainment that certainly buoyed the spirits of an American still held in the grip of a world at war. Truly great stuff!

  • "A friend of mine, in a B29" Ha ha, brilliant line, that one!

    Who's the chick?

  • @Poopingbotham : That's Martha Stewart - no, not *that* Martha Stewart :^) - a nifty little singer-actress who made a few films in the mid-'40s.

  • @songplugger Thanks for that, Songplugger, though I have no idea who you mean by "that" Martha Steward

  • Say Hubba Hubba Hubba to a Jap and he'll chase you for miles!

  • It would be a better tune, if it didn't have the racism in it.

  • also to the people saying we can't impose political correctness on all of history, i couldn't agree more. It's not so much that i find this song in any way offensive, you can't live your life being offended by everything. It's just in the light of modern history, the cold war, etcetera, the song takes on an unintended but really poignant side to it. it's like mankind was teetering on the brink of an even more dangerous world and didn't even know it yet...

  • Just look at the hips on that babe :) The record version with the Russ Case Singers is better but of course it doesn't have the scenery...Haha This has to be the most UN PC song I have ever heard....And rightfully so...Just telling the truth instead of trying to re-write history all in the name of not stepping on people's toes.

I love the hep cat talk!! Hate the ending though. They need to tag it like the record.

  • @loocee95 Great song. In tune with the times. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, so US was kicking ass. Perry had another name playing record later "What Did Delaware?" And I think the ending was "dig ya later, alligator," which was a reference to a Bill Haley song. :)

  • "smoke over Tokyo" shows this was Americans being totally American. If this song was played on the air today one of Obama's cazars would probably hold a press conference and deem it hate speech and try to get Al Sharpton to have a march.

Perry Como is probably one of the best crooners along with Dean Martin.

  • @iconaclastor i'm not sure, i know i'm probably being a bit humourless but isn't such a gung ho attitude to nationalism and nuclear weapons a big part of the reason why we're in the situation we're in today vis a vis Iran, North Korea, and so on? I do understand that the song's not meant to be serious but there's a big part of me that struggles in fining the humour in the one moment in history when mankind acquired the power to destroy itself...

  • A hit song from early 1942 that commemorates the start of WWII for the USA: "Remember Pearl Harbor" by Sammy Kaye and his Orchestra.

And from 1945, to commemorate the end of WWII: "Hubba Hubba Hubba", as seen here.

When Perry pauses to sing the phrase: "...till the end of time...", he's quoting a line from a song that had already been a hit for him. Martha's scream and swoon mimics how teenage girls were acting over Frank Sinatra (and Perry) at the time.

  • Ah, we had this album. The first time I have found this un-PC (and I don't mean Perry Como!) song!

  • alguien tiene discos de perry como en español

  • awesom song wow love it

  • Mr. Como sure is smooth...

  • One of the greatest videos on Youtube

  • Aww, Perry is so darn adorable!

  • Perry Como: "Slip me some skin" - Perry the hepcat.

Gotta love the high slits on those skirts too.

  • lol

  • Different time. The Jappanses invaded Manchuia in 1931, the war finnaly ended in '45. The joy these folks felt that it was ending cannot be overstated. After growing up in the midst of deppression and then a war that cost 65 million lives they're entitled to some happiness.

  • @jrcel21 HERE! HERE!

  • Perry Como really reminds me of Dean Martin in this video in the way he acts, but I think I still like Dean more. I really like this video, but the beginning blows my mind on how racist it would be considered in today's social standards.

  • Perhaps we all need to remember that this was made in 1945. A different America.. and a different world at the end of the Second World War. We can't impose the prism of today's political correctness on the art of earlier times

  • @MarkJSau This was just really shocking the first time I saw this, but I really like this video.

  • @MarkJSau I've stated this, many times.. Germany, Italy, and, Japan, were our enemies.. And, Perry Como was of Italian descent.. I think this video was a look at America in a different time and place.. The man was a great singer, period..

  • no Como is the best

  • @lovetheoldies100

Dean Martin 1st, Perry Como second, you're wrong.

  • Martha Stewart, not to confused with the one who was nee Martha Helen Kostyra.

  • thats so...cult?

  • Good lord, this song is.. wow! :D The Japanese eyes, the "Smoke over Tokyo"... wow :D

  • Yes, we were at war with them. They happened to kill 2000 sailors on a surprise attack on Dec 7,1941 not to mention the orgy of bloodletting they had commited across most of Asia, massacreing tens of thousands, so yes, the "eye" gesture and "smoky over Tokyo" was exactly the way to act. An enemy only respects strength and despises weakness This is when America was the best. Please don't respond with the usual liberal socialist retort as most well read people can see right through that.

  • @OldMrMemories Political Correctness has enslaved us all -_-

  • @MrNightlyProductions Yes it has friend, and it's growing worse daily. We'll never see a truly free America again. It pains me to say that.

  • @OldMrMemories "so yes, the "eye" gesture and "smoky over Tokyo" was exactly the way to act."

You are absolutely and so painfully correct. Thank you.

  • like i said a bore ,for your benefit means to simple and all to easy to understand

  • we are the good guys bonehead!we water board that makes it good, nukeing the japan home islands saved my grandads life, as well as several great uncles, and that's a good thing.this songs from the day when america knew that there are things worth fighting for other than political power

  • funny

  • Actually, it's the fault of the clueless lazy shiftless "sheeple" that put tin pot dictators into office when they are to gutless to get up and work to form a strong society . It is the fault of the civilians that vote in Socialist of all kinds whether they be NAZI's or Marxist. Ir was the fault of the Germans in 1933 and also the Japanese.

  • Boy I know you're really happy Bush & Cheney are gone.

  • Well lets see. I guess it was just a handful of misunderstood lads that marched across most of Asia raping, pillaging and murdering in the name of their Emperor. Not to mention the fact that there was virtually no resistance movement in Japan amongst the populace. Gee,I guess i owe an apology to all those fun loving zany Japamese soldiers. Maybe they had a bad batch of tea the morning they marched into Nanking and had a bloodbath orgy of death. What was I thinking???

  • I'm beginning to understand how you decide which pages to read from the history books. If the good guys are being good and the bad guys are being bad, you mark the page.

  • Original footage that documents one of the most painful episodes in American history -- the fad of breaking into song and dance in public places. (See Grease for depictions of this in popular culture.)

  • I didn't know Perry was in a movie, Another reason he's my favorite singer!

  • @PepulzGuys Perry Como was in a few MGM movies made about different songwriters, like Words and Music. Check out Blue Room and Mountain Greenery sung by him. Its on YouTube.

  • It's too bad we do not see more of that spirit alive today. You commies really stink!

  • Yeah Cloudedbluff, those sweet misunderstood japs. You should have heard the big hit they were singing when they marched into Nanking and massacered a whole population of civilian men, women and children. And let's not forget that wonderful golden oldie they sang as they pillaged Manila and were tossing babies in the air and catching them with their bayonets. Go fuck yourself jerkwad.

  • Great song, thanks for posting.

  • This video is shown only by permission granted by FOX who owns the rights to this content.

  • Ahh ok I understand. Thanks for getting this awesome vid up yea! By the way, how'd you obtain such rare permission from them?

  • how DID you aquire such permission?

or did you just make it known that they own it?

    LOVE listening to them!!

    (and the Andrew sisters!!)

  • Hilarious,I cant imagine someone making up a song like this about the Iraq war. Its nice to look back at a united america

  • @kfm642 Exactly. Back in those days Americans were in the war to win and were proud that they did win.

  • 67 years and a day from today the Japanese weren't playing any sweet songs over Hawaii.

The lyric reflects the understandable, pretty much universal (at the time) and richly deserved opinion of a nation at war. It's not a sweet sentiment, but it's a damn sight less tragic were the deaths of over 3000 sailors, soldiers, and airmen at Pearl Harbor, all killed when the United States was NOT at war with Japan. C'mon - come back with some witty ironic remark about that...

  • take a look at 2nd and 3rd part of the lyrics Well a hubba-hubba-hubba, I just got back! Well a hubba-hubba-hubba, let's shoot some breeze! Say, whatever happened to the Japanese? Hmm a hubba-hubba-hubba, haven't you heard? A hubba-hubba-hubba, slip me the word! I got it from a guy who was in the kno' It was mighty smoky over Tokyo! A friend of mine in a B-29 dropped another load for luck, As he flew away, he was heard to say: "A hubba-hubba-hubba yuk yuk!"
  • A great clip. When Italians stuck together and were a force in the entertainment industry. Too bad we just don't stick together anymore like other groups. I love YouTube. What a way to watch great clips.

  • Amazing! A Hubba-Hubba-Hubba!

  • The woman Martha Stewart ( Martha Shelley) singing with Perry Como is still alive at 85, still gorgeos, glamorous, smiling that smile with those blue eyes and dimples. She still looks the same. I know I see her all the time. Her daughter is one of my friends. Oh, and she still sings so good. It is such a treat when she sings for all of us. Perry Como has such a smooth soft style that resonated volumes. So many songs I've enjoyed by him. Hard to choose.

  • It goes to show that the ladies needn't appear in a state of undress to be extremely appealing

  • I'm only 23, but Perry Como is my favorite all-time singer and a great guy. I also love Gene Kelly, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra, but Perry tops them all. I want to get this movie cause I think it'd be cool to have a movie with Perry in it.

  • Oh my God...! Have that Song on an Album and heard about that the song was from a film... And finaly -thanks to the internet era (and YouTube)- here it is... thanks a lot for posting it..! A real historical document!

  • america as it was ... as an energetic powerhouse of freedom ... at its non politically-correct honesty

  • Well, A Hubba-Hubba-Hubba! Marvellous! This great video footage comes from one of Perry's Movies - 'Doll Face', which was made in 1945. This classic song was a big hit for Mr. C, reaching Number 3 on the US Charts! Of course, as always - Perry is superb!
