I agree with grilled cheeseandramen, but I don't think its a mental issue, because it happens so frequently. I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. I already found out that speaking in tounges is something that anyone can learn to do just by listening to a recording of it. People are mistaking these happenings as "miracles"
this is a Holy laughter its not a cynical one or made up, read ur bible :) theres fruits of the Holy Spirit wich is Joy Love Peace etc. the bible says to these there is no law meaning there is no limit and the bible says the Holy Spirit gives to the measure he wills, if you get CLoser to JESUS and the Holy Spirit his Kingdom will come upon you. this has happened to me, the Bible mentions that Jesus couldn't heal in certain towns because of the hardness of there hearts.
@inhim03 This is NOT holy spirit my friend, this exact phenomenon is seen in occult religions. Please be very careful. I'm very respectful of your beliefs, this however you should show extreme caution to, and avoid! This behaviour is not scriptural or holy but has a more sinister origin.
@grazv6 with all respect whats so sinister about someone experiencing freedom in Christ, emotional freedom there r poeple out there suffering emotional bondage, the lord heals all, not just physical, but let our discussion end here, God bless u amen.
@Leach601 Hes done it to me and plenty others that I know can confirm this. Now I am not going to reject the possibility that she may be very well possessed by a demon, but in this case I find it very hard to believe.
@spartin86 we all have opinions but only God himself knows the truth....But i take my comment back people who are suffering from depression when they are delivered can get very happy i seen this Sunday...peace....love...chicken wings
The reason they thought they were drunk in Acts is because they were SPEAKING IN TONGUES. Thats it. I pray the Lord has mercy on everyone believing this drunk in the spirit heresy
Chill out people and be joyful,,, check out the videos at mercycal.com or search mercycal here at youtube.... it may change your life and bring perspective to your faith... peace to all souls
Yep - also, if you do your research, you will find all these "signs of the Spirit" did not start until the 1800s - so, for some reason, God just didn't have people speaking in tongues and Holy Laughing for nearly 2,000 years - um, yeah . . . . makes perfect sense, right?
@Seektruth1st I am so sorry your legitimate questions were met with this moron unleashing his/her "I'm a better Christian than you because I have tongues" bit. Sadly, it's prominent in American Christianity - the whole "ok, I GUESS you are a believer too, but I'M on the varsity team because I have these particular gifts." I'm guessing someone already told you this on one of the previous pages, but spiritual gifts in the Bible had one purpose, to legitimize the apostles as worthy of . . .
@Nirdjha Thank you for you refreshing and reasonable explanation of spiritual gifts.it is the same belief I hold regarding them. My questions and ideas may come across as provocative to most (as I get attacked as evil for asking them) but they are as you say legitimate. Truth is, I have issue with people in the now claiming they have the same power as the true disciples did back in the day. In my opinion, todays claim of miracles pale in comparison to those of biblical standards...(cont)
@Nirdjha So I see this as immediate evidence that todays "prophets" etc are not what they say they are. All I have seen and ever see is preachers claiming to be prophets and then coming up with a prediction such as "The Lord tells me something good is going to happen to you soon" "The Lord tells me you will find a new job when the time is right" etc. I am sorry but these are nothing more than vague predictions that are bound to happen and have no foundation of anything revealing or astonishing.
@Nirdjha As for the gift of tongues, the bible seems to be quite clear in that this gift was the ability to speak in a known language to foreigners for the purpose of preaching the word. I can accept this with no issue. Honestly, if I saw anyone speak a language that I knew for certain they had not learned and there was an interpreter to verify, I would be amazed and think it a miracle. Unfortunately, this is not the case and instead I am met with silly sounds that even a "heathen" can mimic.
@Nirdjha Notice the scriptures place little importance on the 'gift of tongues' in the first place yet it is somehow the most prevalent 'sign' today. This is simply because it is easy to do and convince uninformed gullible people. The most interesting thing is when someone is asked how this 'gift' is even relevant we are told it is God praying through us for things we do not know we need! Well this seems to be almost possession and completely taking away free will. (Cont)
@Nirdjha If God needs to make us pray for things we do not know we need then why are we even here? It makes no sense and is moronic in its substance. God needing to make people pray for things they do not know they need is essentially presenting the person as a useless blob that God is using to pray to Himself making them pray the things they apparently don't know they need to Him. Ultimately, with this explanation, God is talking to himself through people.
@Nirdjha Now because I find this odd I will be told that I do not have the Holy Spirit so thats why it seems foolish. Well no, it is foolish because it is. I think you are spot on with your take on what Jesus would prefer and this too is what I believe. He was far more the doer and was very big on doing good works. Though this requires much more effort and elbow grease than as you say, feeling Christian sitting in a room listening to an 'anointed' preacher who requires a financial seed to be sown
@Seektruth1st . . . continuing the ministry of Chirst. Many of them, tongues specifically, serve no lasting purpose today. This is why PAUL HIMSELF (are you listening, Chicaloha?) said in 1 Corinthians 12 to NOT seek the gift of tongues, as other gifts such as prophecy (meaning TEACHING, not future telling) are far more beneficial and of worth to God's kingdom . . .
That isn't anything but the joy of the Lord! Meet the REAL Jesus and you'll see!!!!They got the Holy Ghost!!Acts 2:13-15 But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying, “They’re just drunk, that’s all!” Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this. These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that.

Yes I am aware that the bible was written 2000 yrs ago...and I am also aware of the fact that GOD prolongs HIS coming due to the fact that HE does NOT want anyone to perish...the bible says...a 1000 yrs is like 1 day to GOD which says to me in HIS sovereign nature that HE is not bound or managed by time as we r...remember HE is GOD and we...HIS creation...now it seems to me that u do NOT take GOD word to be the infallible WORD of GOD or else you would be like me...GOD says it...that settles it.
For those who question the validity of laughter in the Holy Spirit... Would you say that the people you're seeing in these videos are behaving like a bunch of drunks?
@biffarone ...they only said that because they were speaking a language unknown to them....but when others heard them speaking in THEIR native tongue and they NOT being of or from the native land....they then believed..
even if it's from God, it's not good idea to upload it on youtube.... that's not what people need, to see someone's laugh on the floor. People need showing the way.
remember that the WORD OF GOD SHOULD BE ALWAYS OUR FINAL AUTHORITY.. THE BEST PROOF THAT YOU HAVE GOD'S LOVE AND SPIRIT IS WHEN YOU HAVE A CHANGED LIFE:) BLESSINGS TO ALL
mm .. i don't know if this is real from God or not, 'cause ive never been in such a spirit like that ..
but i think we should not judge people like that ..
it's like if u say ice cream isn't delicious but u've never tasted it before ..
that's why we should respect it .. however i personally think it's a REAL thing .. though i just saw it by television, i can felt the GLORY OF GOD there .. GBU all :)
@JeanGenoard: This is very much real and has happened to me. It's a wonderful move of God and to just feel such peace, love and joy is awesome! Hallelujah!
@JeanGenoard Ok, based on your comment, a person who has never smoked crack before can't say that it's bad. A person who has never been an alcoholic before can't say that alcoholism is bad. One does not have to experience something that they KNOW is not a good thing. There is no example in scripture of this nonsense I don;t know what you "felt" when you watched this, but I am 100% certain that it wasn't the "glory of God."
this is not in name of Jesus,God will done ,because bible never-never teaching that happened, please turn back to bible word also follow bible what we need to believe in truth and i pray God will give wisdow who have saw this video.GOD GUIDE YOU !
@sexyleog7o How do I sound like a Pharisee by quoting the verse that I did? I think you just don't like that what I said exposes this nonsense for what it is.
@Seektruth1st hmm actually I removed the comment I had posted but anywho.. so does this vid not look like joy to you? Isn't joy a fruit of the spirit? What happens when someone wins millions on the lottery? Do they not act crazy? But winning the lottery is so understandable. I just don't think people should judge what they don't understand or have never felt.
@sexyleog7o this is what the bible calls in revelations ''doctrine's of demons'' Our God says ''come let us reason together'' not laugh dance and eat like the hebrews did when moses when to the mount...God is logical not mystical YWHW uses reasoning not irrationality what is funny about realizing your a sinner and you need help? what is funny about someone dying in the worst way for you to have true everlasting life. this is not biblical take heed no man deceives you
@sexyleog7o How do you know what I have felt or what I have seen for starters? Secondly, where is laughing in such a weird way a common occurrence in the scriptures? It is strange to me that churches today are trying to claim the gifts of the spirit yet they never come close to the accounts in the Bible. I have yet to find a pastor or any believer whos shadow can make others whole, nor do I see visible tongues of fire upon baptism. Healings are nowhere near biblical standards today...just honest
@Seektruth1st ....if I may say without being intentionally offensive brother/sister...u sound like a doubting Thomas ....and also could be apart of the epheus church as stated in revelations...u seem to have all the "manly" understanding but lack wisdom from God and His Holy Spirit...I exhort you to TRULY get I to Gods WORD...allow HIM to speak to you...pray before you read the bible...ASK the AUTHOR to reveal yo you what HE is truly saying...of course your not gonna VISIBLY see tongues of fire
@chicaloha I am not a doubting Thomas, more a skeptic of so called Christians who make claims and then have trouble backing them up. i do not see jesus stressing the importance of tongues etc. In fact, when he commissions the disciples to go into the world he also says that people who drink poison will not be harmed, so why are people in church not drinking rat poison to prove the faith also? because tongues are easy to do, drinking poison is dangerous even though it is in there among the signs.
@Seektruth1st ...I feel that u and I misunderstand each other...now if I may clarify some things...I don't Stress on the importance of tongues..it is a gift available to all who believes and to whom GOD chooses to bless..now..the ONLY reason y u and I were speaking about tongues is because we or I commented on a co mention u were making to another about tongues..that's y we talked about it..now...the rest of the gifts are alive and well...God has also blessed me with other gifts...see but
@Seektruth1st ..God KNOWS that the gifts HE has blessed me with I use for HIS glory and HIS alone drawing NO attention to myself...it's good NOT to believe everyone who CLAIMS things under the "Christian" banner...we r required by GOD in 1John 4:1 to TEST the spirits to see if they r of GOD or not...discernment is what the bible calls it...now...u cat TEMPT GOD by drinking poison....it's than that..that's y I say u need to ask GOD for HIS wisdom..u read the bible with UR OWN understanding...
@Seektruth1st ....God is NOT saying for u to actually drink poison and I won't get hurt or die..yah that would be ridiculous...that scripture is talking about physical healing...that if poison was to enter ur body that GOd has the power to stop it from affecting u...also in the bible wen Paul was shipwrecked and stumbled across some natives of that are..now they made a fir for Paul and everything to warm him...there was a snake that came up and bit Paul on his hand/arm and paul just shook it off
@Seektruth1st ...so that passage is actually referencing incidents like those....People who actually THINK tat GOD wants u to drink poison to PROOF ur faith to HIM is truly taking scripture out of context which I am sorry to say...but I see that u do also...all I can do is pray for u that GOd would truly give u HIS wisdom..that TRUTh will be revealed to u the way HE intended the bible to be understood...Trust in the LORD with ALL thine heart and lean NOT upon thy own understanding...prov. 3:5
@chicaloha it is not taken out of context at all. The verse clearly says that those who believe will have the accompanying signs...Tongues, casting of demons etc...yet drinking poison is a sign among these as an example of faith. Sad truth is, nobody will drink poison to show they have the spirit because they are scared of dropping dead, as they do not really believe it. It i not about testing God when drinking poison, it is a bout demonstrating faith to the non believers as the scripture says.
@Seektruth1st ..that was something that was something GOD choose to show to them as the HOLY Spirit descended upon them...now you said that the Holy Spirit was breathed on them and they (disciples) received the Holy Spirit in John...mind telling me the chapter and verse because somehow I missed reading that...I need clarity pls...Ty...:) be blessed...
@chicaloha And why am i not going to see "visible tongues of fire"? If it was good enough for back then why not now? This is why it is doubtful the tongues of today are the same as back then otherwise it would happen the same as then. We would see tongues above peoples heads as did the people at pentecost. The scripture of the Holy Spirit given in John actually preludes your 'doubting Thomas' verse I will send in the next comment box...
@chicaloha John 20:21-23 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
So we see the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit and authority to forgive sins, so you see the dilemma in having a second Holy Spirit event in Pentecost...multiple authors.
@chicaloha Regarding the gifts you say you have...I am very happy for you and all the other people who claim to have them. However I am yet to see anybody perform a greater work than Jesus did after 2000 yrs of waiting. Jesus said that those who believe will do greater works than he did in John 14:12. Funny how not one person since Jesus has done so...but I guess I am taking that very clear verse out of context also? I am not, it is what it says...peace to you too ;)
@Seektruth1st ...lol...that's fine..I will pray for u and ur welcome.no problem.I think the problem u have is the fact that I REFUSE to debate with u.which if u are so studied up as U claim to be,u would have come across that in scripture, and see,u wanna see signs and wonders and GOD talks about this perverse generation who LOOKS for that INSTEAD of looking at HIM.to me,it sounds like u hold MY GOD to a minimum...HE IS ALL POWERFUL and can do as HE pleases. Come 2 think of it. U sound like a JW.
@chicaloha I have studied and there is no debate when you are in denial. The truth is you believe you are a disciple with the Holy Spirt, yet you are not capable of demonstrating the power of the spirit. You cannot call fire from heaven, your shadow does not fall on people and make them well, you cannot prophesy or heal like that of biblical standards. The perverse generation that seek a sign were the generation spoken to 2000 yrs ago, not today, hence why you and nobody else can perform signs
@Seektruth1st ..I'm in denial...lol...ok...however...that's fine...u believe what u must....lol...u always seem to think that the bible and it's prophecies has nothing to do with US for today...that's y I said I will pray for u...u only want to hear and believe hat ur itching ears wanna hear...what suits U...therefore...prayer is needed...Jesus did perform signs and wonders...true..BUT once again..not EVERYONE believed..hence the reason y HIS chosen people STILL wait for the MESSIAH.
@chicaloha So you do admit Jesus performed signs yet you also know Jesus said no sign will be given except the resurrection yet obviously he did much more than that? How does that work? Did he or didn't he? Instead of explaining this obvious problem with consistency you shift the blame on me having itching ears etc. Jesus boldly stated that those who believe will perform greater works than he did, tell me, where are these people performing greater works than Jesus? Best of luck finding them.
@Seektruth1st ..lol..we have been thru this a bunch of times already..yes u and I disagree on ALOT of things..I stated that I CAN DO NOTHING APART FROM GOD WHO DWELLS WITHIN ME..some people believe in the rapture n some don't...however...will that keep them from heaven??..I didn't say such a thing...r they wrong??..I can't judge that!!..I just FEEL that you look for SIGNS n WONDERS vs looking at JESUS to show you HIS WAY..n TRUTH das all I was TRYING to say..but the convo ended because I FELT...
@Seektruth1st ..that EVERYTHING I was aging to u...u had a rebuttal for....and I understand we have disagreements....that's NORMAL isn't it!!??...BUT ON EVERYTHING WE DISAGREE...NOW THERES a RED FLAG FOR ME..Hence the ceased convo which once again will stop HERE!!..I will pray u and then u can do the same for me!!..How's dat!!.maybe this time we can have our FIRST agreement!!..and as I stated earlier....in the end....we will ALL find out whAt GOD meant by it ALL...Rapture or not...here HE COMES!
@chicaloha So if Jesus said that those who believe will perform greater works than he, which is a big claim, I guess I will believe the person who can do such a thing however where are these believers? You seem to have strong faith but can you walk on water? Can you call fire from heaven? Can you heal people with ailments that can be seen? Does your shadow touch people and heal them? If so, I am all ears, but I think the answer is no hence why you choose to end the discussion...very original.
@Seektruth1st ..sorry for the typos...but seriously..I can try to explain to u till Im blue in the face...truth be tolld, u ain't gonna listen...so straight up...what's the use...u cNt say I didn't try...I did....I always tried to tell my point to u...u just won't have no part in it...now as GOD is...a gentleman...HE does NOT force himself on anyone...U either believe or u don't...tis ur choice..that's where I will stand already...u can believe what u must...God will work it out in the end!!..:)
@Seektruth1st ...I hope to see u in the air...if anything..u have no problem making the rapture...unless of course u don't believe in that also...a whole other topic...however...Ty for ur thoughts...here's another thing also...if u claim to serve the SAME GOD I DO...How is it that we do not agree...shouldn't the same spirit that dwells in me dwell in u??..something to think about..in any case..I said all I can say..and truly..in the end...ALL TRUTH WILL BE BROUGHT TO LIGHT..I PRAY U MAKE HEAVEN.
@chicaloha "How is it that we do not agree...shouldn't the same spirit that dwells in me dwell in u??..something to think about.."
Hahaha, that's why your religion has about 30,000 denominations with different belief sets. And it's so funny, because they all use the same book to claim they're right. Of course another Christian isn't going to agree with you, the word of your all powerful all knowing magic invisible god is too confusing! He didn't think this all through very well did he?!?!
@c0unterph0bia ...well..I'm sorry but with me..it is NOT nor has it EVER been about religion...it's about a RELATIONSHIP with GOD...and go ahead and mock my GOD all u want...it's prophetic...it's in the bible...there WILL be those like u who MOCK HIM.I will pray for u...all I can do...either HIS return will be your best dream come true or ur worse nightmare..seems to me like ur choosing the latter...then GOD will tell U..it's too bad U didn't think it thru..but by then it's TOO LATE!!!!
@c0unterph0bia Yeah I have always wondered why so many denominations, all filled with the Holy Spirit yet all having different and REAL versions of the truth. To top it off, we are told: "God is not the author of confusion" I guess thats why I am so curious personally, because I am confused.
@Seektruth1st ...lol..c...I get it now.....that's y u and I disagree on EVERYTHING...reading ur comment here just proves to me that u really DONT know who JESUS is...and WHAT HIS WORD REALLY MEANS...that's Y ur so confused as u stated to c0unterphobia. make sense now..it ALL makes sense...I'm sorry but MY GOD IS NOTTHE GOD OF CONFUSION...and if u truly had HIS HOLY SPIRIT dwelling in U...U'd truly know it...beyond a shadow of a doubt...u will probably get offended by it BUT I'm strait forward.
@chicaloha Bottom line is you have not directly answered one of my points, you are claiming, as does every other Christian that you have the ultimate truth and nobody else knows Jesus as well as you do...very original. I do believe in God and I have the same scriptures as you do that reveal information on Jesus so really it is your interpretation vs mine vs everyone else etc. if your God is NOT the author of confusion, then he would have one church and one following...hardly true.
@Seektruth1st ...the way you talk about "Christians" I'm sorry but ur NOT one...Christians build each other up in the faith NOT tear down,u got a lot to learn about GOD and HIS love and what Christianity is all about,u r wise in ur OWN eyes, and GOD says when we think we r smarter than HE,we r FOOLS!!!...another truth told...:) but thanks for the tried debate and trying to tempt me to get upset...BUT greater is HE that is in me than he who is in the world!!..AMEN...and AMEN. To GOD be the GLORY!!
@chicaloha Well I do not know how you see a problem in that we disagree when billions of Christians world wide and millions on you Tube alone disagree with one another, especially regarding the rapture. People were disputing the Gospel in the 1st century so it is nothing new really. Peter and Paul had disagreement so I ask you, which one of these 2 men do NOT have the Holy Spirit? Pretty tough to decide on that one as Peter clearly did receive it from Jesus Holy breath, so maybe Paul doesn't.
@Seektruth1st ...people will always DISPUTE what they do NOT wNt to hear and what they CHOOSE to believe...they has ALWAYS been the problem with Jews n Gentiles alike...Believing what they want..twisting the bible and taking it out of context...using human finite reasoning...INSTEAD OF being led by GODs HOLY SPIRIT and being thought with SPIRITUAL EYES n THINKING!!...but then again...something u'd have a rebuttal for..however...it's a losing battle...I they to explain...but I know it no use..lol
@chicaloha You will also notice that Jesus only said no sign will be given in the synoptic gospels except that of Jonah however the book of John has Jesus performing signs left right and centre. Jesus also knew the people would not believe unless they saw signs, he even said that and thats why he performed them. So it is only fair to ask you and any other claimant to the throne of apostleship to perform a sign like that to accompany the Holy Spirit...but you are empty handed as are the rest :)
@Seektruth1st ...u seem bitter to me...once again...as u claimed earlier in previous comments..NONE OF THE FRUITS R EVIDENT HERE..I have the RIGHT tom test and JUDGE EVERY SPIRIT who CLAIMS to follow my LORD and SAVIOR...U my friend....have all the opposite fruits...I call it as it is...this will be my last comment..as I stated earlier..this is becoming tedious and pointless...I AM A CHILD OOF GOD..I CAN DO NOTHING APART FROM HIM..if that makes me a bad apostle in ur eyes...SO BE IT..
@chicaloha I am not really bitter, more like I find it amusing/confusing that all these people claiming the Holy Spirit have different ideas about what the Bible REALLY means. A friend of mine constantly tells me how anointed with the Holy Spirit she is and that she can prophecy speak tongues etc yet she does not believe in a rapture at all, so who is right? You or her? Everyone seems to know the REAL Jesus while others while the next person does not. Sorry if I seem bitter but you understand...
@chicaloha Jesus says his disciples will receive the Holy Spirit...he does not say they will receive it and then later be baptised in it...it is and was a one off event. Even in the great commission following jesus resurrection he tells the disciples to go to the nations and perform the signs..again as they already have the Holy Spirit. This was all before the book of Acts had any place of relevance...that is, if you believe the gospels are as early as Christians like to say they are.
@Seektruth1st ...I am TRULY n utterly OVER IT!!...go ahead...ask someone else more "mature"....LOL...that's fine too...go give them the back n forth...I GUARANTEE u r NOT gonna find the patience n time I took with u...however...go with GOD...n in the end..we will find out who TRULY is FALSE!!!!!!...AMEN!!!!!!
@chicaloha Well the way you actually write highly suggests you are younger anyway. I only keep asking the same questions because you do not answer them, you only avoid them. Answer this question, plain and simple: If you have the same Holy Spirit that Jesus bestowed upon his disciples, why is it you cannot perform any of the signs and miracles that are supposed to accompany it?
@chicaloha If you have any idea what you are talking about and what you say is true, you should have no issue answering these queries DIRECTLY. No pointing the finger at me, no saying you have already answered...just answer. If you are unable to answer then really you will have answered sufficiently in that you do not have the answers...Thank you.
@Seektruth1st . . . Truth is, sitting in an auditorium with a bunch of other lazy people screaming and crying and laughing and speaking gibberish is a much easier way to "feel" christian than is going into the world and actually sharing the lives of others, sharing His word, meeting the needs of the lowly and poor - in other words, most "believers" find it easier to practice the faith on their asses in church than on their feet in the world - Jesus, I'm pretty sure, favored the latter.
@Seektruth1st ....ur all twisted up...I DO know GOD because he dwells within...I am HIS temple and HIS holy spirit resides in me...u have NO IDEA who JESUS is do u!!...NONE!!...I shouldve realized from jumpstreet...but any who...however....I can't change nor convince someone who won't hear truth...although ur name seektruth 1st is kinda misleading wen u choose NOT to hear truth. U can say all manner of things against me..I count it ALL JOY!!...and it's been a pleasure. U won't hear From me again
@chicaloha Isn't it odd the only way you can prove that you know God is by claiming yourself that He dwells in you? Once again, how many people claim the same title yet believe differently to you. Though naturally they are deceived and you are correct. The rapture is true to you because you really know God and the others do not yet they also claim to have God dwell in them as you do. Laughable and hardly reliable. Perhaps if you were all consistent in your claims you would have a case.
@Seektruth1st ...what funny..is that u ask me to explain things 2 u that Ii have ---ALREADY explained to u...the truth IS...ur not hearing me explain what U wanna hear...lol...that's REALLY what it is...fine...u can call me false...no biggie...I know whom I serve n believe in....and besides...GOD says to count it SLL joy..when people come against u with all types of persecution...for in this GOD be glorified and my reward awaits me in heaven..so again..praying for u!..go in peace!!..truly..GO!
@chicaloha Ok so once gain you have decided to skip my questions with rebuking...why not explain in all your wisdom the answers specifically to answer my queries? It would not be a debate if you did this, instead you want to seek self persecution, now THAT is funny. You are not being torn apart by lions under emperor Neros reign, you re simply being asked reasonable questions and only so because you claim to have the truth. perhaps I will ask someone more mature and who actually has an idea ;)
@chicaloha See, when Jesus was asked a question he would provide an answer. Now seeing as you claim to know him better than most I expect you can answer the questions that I ask. Jesus didn't rebuke and label people as evil for making inquiries. Your reaction to my inquiries only supports what thankfully most people already know, which is, people who call themselves Christians and know God personally etc really do not. Instead of patiently sharing what they may know resort to attack. Thank you.
@chicaloha Straight up...if you have the Holy Spirit that was bestowed upon the disciples and it dwells in you and you believe...can you drink poison without it harming you? Does your shadow fall on the maimed and make them whole? Of course not, but this is why you avoid the question because you know you cannot claim these miraculous feats. Thank God tangible signs of the Spirit were introduced so we can weed out the false sheep like yourself.
@Seektruth1st ...Ur too funny...r u not realizing that all ur doing is asking theSAME thing over n over again...maybe u should go back n read the "answers" that I gave u......cuz all u seem to do is ask me the SAME questions..and YES u got rebuked because u started to now attack me spiritually by calling me false sheep..sooo...I rebuked u..call it wat u want..at this point all this IS nonsense..the Lord said NOT to cast pearls before swine...wipe ur feet n tell someone who WANTS to hear. Cya
@dancinmama1986 I did ask God...and not just about this video, but every other church I went to personally and saw the same mental behaviour. God has not even given me the slightest push in that direction...nor has he given me any type sign that it is good. Please don't tell me I just need to ask or believe...signs are to make people believe not the other way around.
@dancinmama1986 I said don't tell me because if i didn't thats what you would have most likely said. As all Christians do, when i disagree with them they say I need to keep asking and just believe....thats the only way they cam make sense that someone cannot see what they see.
@Seektruth1st Are you a Christian? I don't really know what else to tell you. Asking and believing is what makes someone a Christian. 1 John talks about testing the spirits, if you think this is demonic, check out that epistle. If you aren't willing to do that . . . I don't really know how to respond to your comment. But, in any case, I meant no harm.
@dancinmama1986 There is no harm and I didn't take anything in that way. I do not like to call myself a Christian as I believe the name has been dragged through the mud and there are too many that I would rather not be associated with. I like to read the Gospels and adhere to the teaching of Jesus though I do not find any of this to be relevant to his ministry. Loving God and your neighbour hang all the law and the prophets...
@Seektruth1st I agree but there is ministry that happens among believers as well as to the outside world. I don't know how you feel about speaking in tongues but its kind of the same case here . . . its not directly "relevant" to ministry but it is a manifestation of the same spirit that Jesus promised would habitat those who believe. 1 Corinthians 14 explains the proper use for speaking in tongues but otherwise, it would just seem crazy to someone not open to it.
@dancinmama1986 But why is there so much emphasis on all this hooplah when it was not nearly the focal point of jesus teaching? From personal experience too, I know that this behaviour does not necessarily mean that it makes the person any better or holy either. I have known enough charismatics who are actually more into drinking and fornication than your average catholic. it only begs the question. is this new revival even good? Apparently all this behaviour only goes back 1 century ago.
@dancinmama1986 I believe the tongues of the Bible may have very well been relevant back then as they were known foreign language and enabled the apostles to preach to other nations so they would understand what was said. It was also a sign to the non believer. Problem here is that if i saw a person speak japanese suddenly and I know they cannot, I would say that is amazing. However todays tongues are random noises that even I can imitate or anyone for that matter. How is that a sign?
@Seektruth1st I can only speak from personal experience . . . when I speak in tongues I do it by faith that the Holy Spirit is interceding through me and that the "language" that I am speaking is first given by God and secondly building me up. No one has personally come to a saving knowledge of Christ by hearing me speak in tongues but I don't think its any less relevant. Plus there maybe an interpreter . . . . Have you spoken in tongues before? No that it makes you any less a believer . . .
@dancinmama1986 No I haven't but I have seen it done enough and i have heard many different thoughts on it. there are some who insist that it is wrong and they do not like the fact they are saying things that could possibly be evil or a deception. Then there are people like you who say what they feel. I guess if he testimonies were consistent I would lean toward the possibility.
Funny how scripture says 3 at the most should speak tongues yet how many churches have over 50 people carrying on.
@Seektruth1st I look at it as freely given gift. Just like salvation, you can either except it or not. Either you gain in some way or you don't. This would be another instance where I would suggest that you ask and pray about the validity of tongues or any gift of the spirit. But you can't receive without believing right? I think there is a time and place for tongues in church just as Paul describes. I would suggest committing to a church that agrees with the bible and growing there.
@dancinmama1986 You said: But you can't receive without believing right?
Id also say you can't believe without receiving. The whole scenario is a catch 22. You need to read the Bible to understand and receive the Spirit yet apparently we do not understand the Bible if we do not have the Holy Spirit in the first place. As for joining a church, I am yet to come across a church that is 100% bibe observant. We do not need a church to know God at all. Jesus says nothing of the sort either.
@Seektruth1st Ahhhhh . . . . anti-church person? Why won't you commit to a body of believers? We weren't designed to do Christianity on our own. I'm not knocking the validity of your faith by any means but I will tell you its a mistake to forsake gathering with other believers. Jesus died for his church, his bride; even among the disciples, He never meant for us to be alone. You need other people and they need you.
@dancinmama1986 Why would I commit to a body of people when there are so many different versions of this 'body'? I am yet to feel or even see anything remotely Godly or special about any congregation I have been to. I do not feel comfortable when people start to roll on the ground screaming, or when preachers start babbling 'prophecy' that is so vague that it could apply to anybody. I compare all church gatherings with what is within the scriptures and i am yet to find one that actually fits.
@dancinmama1986 I do not deny that people need other people but I do not see how being around people who are constantly analysing and making judgement is any help. Always trying to correct one another in their ways, each assuming the role of holier than thou etc. Gossiping and comparing who is the 'better' Christian. It actually feels more healthy and productive to go it alone. I do not recall Jesus saying this was impossible. All his teachings are individual responsibilities.
@Seektruth1st I can understand that because it does happen. But I do have good news . . . I have personally experienced a church community who is not like that at all. The one that I can currently attending is the most like what gospel-inspired people should be like and it amazes me and makes me so thankful that they are groups of people who are really committed to that kind lifestyle. So please have hope because churches like that do exist.
@dancinmama1986 Well I am happy for you that you have found a place in which you are happy and it seems right. Though it makes me wonder how rare it is and how many exist. This would mean that very very few are true followers and hence a very small salvation rate, based on what mainstream Christians consider saved anyway. So do they do this type of thing at your church too? Falling over, noises, etc?
@Seektruth1st Well we very much believe in the power of the Holy Spirit and the manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit as described in scripture. There is an order to how we do it though. Our main services just consist of praise and worship, bible teaching, offering, communion and baptisms. We have small groups that meet throughout the week for more indepth teaching. Then we have prayer and worship nights where there is a place for prophetic things or testimonies, tongues, etc.
@dancinmama1986 So what is the benefit of tongues? Why have a language of noises? How does it benefit anybody really? What is the difference to an almighty God whether you pray in english chinese or swahili? Does he favour funny sounds over other prayers? How is a bunch of sounds that even I can forge a sign to a non believer? If it were the miraculous sudden outpour of a known language by a person who has not learned it would be far more a sign than random noise.
@Seektruth1st I believe it is for building up your "spirit-man". Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14 that we should "eagerly desire spiritual gifts". In a church setting the gift of prophecy is more profitable than tongues unless someone can translate, but its more personally edifying. These "mysteries" that are uttered are spoken to God are prayers spoken by the spirit, interceding for us when we don't know what to pray. So in a sense limited amounts benefit from tongues but it does have purpose.
@dancinmama1986 I have heard of the idea that speaking in tongues is the spirit interceding to pray for people when they do nit know what to pray, but isn't that taking away from free will in a way? is God in a sense, possessing the person to make them say what he thinks they should say anyway? Why would God intercede to make the person ask him for something when he could just as easily do it if he knows they want/need it anyway? All starts looking a bit odd when you stand back and observe.
@Seektruth1st I think this verse sums it up "Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way." - 1 Corinthians 14:39-40
@dancinmama1986 I guess the tongues seem to be a very popular sign today though the other signs, conveniently enough are much harder to forge (Prophecy healing etc) Tongues anyone can do, prophecy is very vague and usually some information that is inevitably going to come to pass anyway, healings are always unseen ailments unlike the leprosy of the Bible days. I think I am being fair in my skepticism here as I am only comparing to scripture no less. Did any Christian prophet predict 9/11?...No
@Seektruth1st Its hard to argue about spiritual things . . . there is an element to the mystery of how God's spirit inhabits the believer that I don't think any church doctrine can articulate wholly. However, I'm also one of those people who read about the gifts of the spirit and get excited about them. I've only spoken in tongues but I'm open to other things. I can only speak of what I have experienced. Do you think of the gifts as a more hindering than profitable?
@dancinmama1986 I agree that it is difficult to discuss the gifts of the spirit as we can clearly see from all the questions I alone have let alone the many other people who do too. Do I think the gifts hinder? Perhaps they do not hinder a believer in so many ways but do they hinder a non believer? I think they do a little. Mainly because they raise more questions than they convince as they were apparently once intended. (cont)
@dancinmama1986 See, it is not due to lack of faith that I doubt the gifts of the spirit, it is more to do with the lack of compatibility that todays alleged gifts have to do with the gifts of the scripture. As it says, the gifts are to convince to accompany the believer to demonstrate to the non believer, just as Jesus miracles were to convince the non believers. Without the miracles, Jesus would not have gotten the attention of the people.Even He said, "If not believe me, believe the works"
@Seektruth1st I can see where gifts can be "misused" or could scare people away but I think it comes to where that person is at more so than the manifestation of the gift. I know unbelievers who came to Christ because through the word of knowledge someone told them things about their life that no one could have known. Just depends . . . personally, I don't have a problem with the laughing. Its never happened to me during worship or prayer but its an expression of joy which is of God.
@dancinmama1986 Well people who can tell another about things in their life that arent possible to know exist outside the church also. They are generally labelled evil mediums etc yet their information is just as accurate and in my experience, more so than any preacher in a church. Their prophecies are nothing more than "God has a plan for your life" "God is going to bless you soon" etc. I have heard this to the point it is boring and it is bound to happen on some scale in anybodies life anyway.
@dancinmama1986 Also, off the top of my head, I do not recall James John or Peter in their NT books mentioning any of this behaviour as being from God or if they do mention it, it is by no means a common occurrence as it seems to be in the gentile churches to millennia later. The reason I say these men is because they knew Jesus personally and obviously find all this behaviour of little or no importance. Why do they not talk about as it has ultimately turned out to be the "trend" of modern day?
@Seektruth1st I am not saying that James, John or Peter are less credible than Jesus (Mark 16:17) or Paul (1 Corinthians 12-14 and other places) but just because spirit gifts are not mentioned doesn't mean they weren't relevant. In fact I would say that we wouldn't know anything about church doctrine unless there was an issue in the church body that the apostles had to correct through an epistle. If you want to condemn the modern use of spiritual gifts, you can but I can't

Yep - also, if you do your research, you will find all these "signs of the Spirit" did not start until the 1800s - so, for some reason, God just didn't have people speaking in tongues and Holy Laughing for nearly 2,000 years - um, yeah . . . . makes perfect sense, right?
Nirdjha 1 year ago 2
@Seektruth1st I am so sorry your legitimate questions were met with this moron unleashing his/her "I'm a better Christian than you because I have tongues" bit. Sadly, it's prominent in American Christianity - the whole "ok, I GUESS you are a believer too, but I'M on the varsity team because I have these particular gifts." I'm guessing someone already told you this on one of the previous pages, but spiritual gifts in the Bible had one purpose, to legitimize the apostles as worthy of . . .
Nirdjha 1 year ago
@Nirdjha Thank you for you refreshing and reasonable explanation of spiritual gifts.it is the same belief I hold regarding them. My questions and ideas may come across as provocative to most (as I get attacked as evil for asking them) but they are as you say legitimate. Truth is, I have issue with people in the now claiming they have the same power as the true disciples did back in the day. In my opinion, todays claim of miracles pale in comparison to those of biblical standards...(cont)
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Nirdjha So I see this as immediate evidence that todays "prophets" etc are not what they say they are. All I have seen and ever see is preachers claiming to be prophets and then coming up with a prediction such as "The Lord tells me something good is going to happen to you soon" "The Lord tells me you will find a new job when the time is right" etc. I am sorry but these are nothing more than vague predictions that are bound to happen and have no foundation of anything revealing or astonishing.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Nirdjha As for the gift of tongues, the bible seems to be quite clear in that this gift was the ability to speak in a known language to foreigners for the purpose of preaching the word. I can accept this with no issue. Honestly, if I saw anyone speak a language that I knew for certain they had not learned and there was an interpreter to verify, I would be amazed and think it a miracle. Unfortunately, this is not the case and instead I am met with silly sounds that even a "heathen" can mimic.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Nirdjha Notice the scriptures place little importance on the 'gift of tongues' in the first place yet it is somehow the most prevalent 'sign' today. This is simply because it is easy to do and convince uninformed gullible people. The most interesting thing is when someone is asked how this 'gift' is even relevant we are told it is God praying through us for things we do not know we need! Well this seems to be almost possession and completely taking away free will. (Cont)
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Nirdjha If God needs to make us pray for things we do not know we need then why are we even here? It makes no sense and is moronic in its substance. God needing to make people pray for things they do not know they need is essentially presenting the person as a useless blob that God is using to pray to Himself making them pray the things they apparently don't know they need to Him. Ultimately, with this explanation, God is talking to himself through people.
I find this odd.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Nirdjha Now because I find this odd I will be told that I do not have the Holy Spirit so thats why it seems foolish. Well no, it is foolish because it is. I think you are spot on with your take on what Jesus would prefer and this too is what I believe. He was far more the doer and was very big on doing good works. Though this requires much more effort and elbow grease than as you say, feeling Christian sitting in a room listening to an 'anointed' preacher who requires a financial seed to be sown
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st . . . continuing the ministry of Chirst. Many of them, tongues specifically, serve no lasting purpose today. This is why PAUL HIMSELF (are you listening, Chicaloha?) said in 1 Corinthians 12 to NOT seek the gift of tongues, as other gifts such as prophecy (meaning TEACHING, not future telling) are far more beneficial and of worth to God's kingdom . . .

chicaloha 1 year ago
@chicaloha it is not taken out of context at all. The verse clearly says that those who believe will have the accompanying signs...Tongues, casting of demons etc...yet drinking poison is a sign among these as an example of faith. Sad truth is, nobody will drink poison to show they have the spirit because they are scared of dropping dead, as they do not really believe it. It i not about testing God when drinking poison, it is a bout demonstrating faith to the non believers as the scripture says.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago

I am not, it is what it says...peace to you too ;)
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st ...lol...that's fine..I will pray for u and ur welcome.no problem.I think the problem u have is the fact that I REFUSE to debate with u.which if u are so studied up as U claim to be,u would have come across that in scripture, and see,u wanna see signs and wonders and GOD talks about this perverse generation who LOOKS for that INSTEAD of looking at HIM.to me,it sounds like u hold MY GOD to a minimum...HE IS ALL POWERFUL and can do as HE pleases. Come 2 think of it. U sound like a JW.
chicaloha 1 year ago
@chicaloha I have studied and there is no debate when you are in denial. The truth is you believe you are a disciple with the Holy Spirt, yet you are not capable of demonstrating the power of the spirit. You cannot call fire from heaven, your shadow does not fall on people and make them well, you cannot prophesy or heal like that of biblical standards. The perverse generation that seek a sign were the generation spoken to 2000 yrs ago, not today, hence why you and nobody else can perform signs
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st ..I'm in denial...lol...ok...however...that's fine...u believe what u must....lol...u always seem to think that the bible and it's prophecies has nothing to do with US for today...that's y I said I will pray for u...u only want to hear and believe hat ur itching ears wanna hear...what suits U...therefore...prayer is needed...Jesus did perform signs and wonders...true..BUT once again..not EVERYONE believed..hence the reason y HIS chosen people STILL wait for the MESSIAH.
chicaloha 1 year ago
@chicaloha So you do admit Jesus performed signs yet you also know Jesus said no sign will be given except the resurrection yet obviously he did much more than that? How does that work? Did he or didn't he? Instead of explaining this obvious problem with consistency you shift the blame on me having itching ears etc. Jesus boldly stated that those who believe will perform greater works than he did, tell me, where are these people performing greater works than Jesus? Best of luck finding them.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st ..lol..we have been thru this a bunch of times already..yes u and I disagree on ALOT of things..I stated that I CAN DO NOTHING APART FROM GOD WHO DWELLS WITHIN ME..some people believe in the rapture n some don't...however...will that keep them from heaven??..I didn't say such a thing...r they wrong??..I can't judge that!!..I just FEEL that you look for SIGNS n WONDERS vs looking at JESUS to show you HIS WAY..n TRUTH das all I was TRYING to say..but the convo ended because I FELT...
chicaloha 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st ..that EVERYTHING I was aging to u...u had a rebuttal for....and I understand we have disagreements....that's NORMAL isn't it!!??...BUT ON EVERYTHING WE DISAGREE...NOW THERES a RED FLAG FOR ME..Hence the ceased convo which once again will stop HERE!!..I will pray u and then u can do the same for me!!..How's dat!!.maybe this time we can have our FIRST agreement!!..and as I stated earlier....in the end....we will ALL find out whAt GOD meant by it ALL...Rapture or not...here HE COMES!
chicaloha 1 year ago

He didn't think this all through very well did he?!?!
c0unterph0bia 1 year ago

Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st ...lol..c...I get it now.....that's y u and I disagree on EVERYTHING...reading ur comment here just proves to me that u really DONT know who JESUS is...and WHAT HIS WORD REALLY MEANS...that's Y ur so confused as u stated to c0unterphobia. make sense now..it ALL makes sense...I'm sorry but MY GOD IS NOTTHE GOD OF CONFUSION...and if u truly had HIS HOLY SPIRIT dwelling in U...U'd truly know it...beyond a shadow of a doubt...u will probably get offended by it BUT I'm strait forward.
chicaloha 1 year ago
@chicaloha Bottom line is you have not directly answered one of my points, you are claiming, as does every other Christian that you have the ultimate truth and nobody else knows Jesus as well as you do...very original. I do believe in God and I have the same scriptures as you do that reveal information on Jesus so really it is your interpretation vs mine vs everyone else etc. if your God is NOT the author of confusion, then he would have one church and one following...hardly true.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st ...the way you talk about "Christians" I'm sorry but ur NOT one...Christians build each other up in the faith NOT tear down,u got a lot to learn about GOD and HIS love and what Christianity is all about,u r wise in ur OWN eyes, and GOD says when we think we r smarter than HE,we r FOOLS!!!...another truth told...:) but thanks for the tried debate and trying to tempt me to get upset...BUT greater is HE that is in me than he who is in the world!!..AMEN...and AMEN. To GOD be the GLORY!!
chicaloha 1 year ago
@chicaloha Well I do not know how you see a problem in that we disagree when billions of Christians world wide and millions on you Tube alone disagree with one another, especially regarding the rapture. People were disputing the Gospel in the 1st century so it is nothing new really. Peter and Paul had disagreement so I ask you, which one of these 2 men do NOT have the Holy Spirit? Pretty tough to decide on that one as Peter clearly did receive it from Jesus Holy breath, so maybe Paul doesn't.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st ...people will always DISPUTE what they do NOT wNt to hear and what they CHOOSE to believe...they has ALWAYS been the problem with Jews n Gentiles alike...Believing what they want..twisting the bible and taking it out of context...using human finite reasoning...INSTEAD OF being led by GODs HOLY SPIRIT and being thought with SPIRITUAL EYES n THINKING!!...but then again...something u'd have a rebuttal for..however...it's a losing battle...I they to explain...but I know it no use..lol
chicaloha 1 year ago

Sorry if I seem bitter but you understand...

chicaloha 1 year ago
@chicaloha Jesus says his disciples will receive the Holy Spirit...he does not say they will receive it and then later be baptised in it...it is and was a one off event. Even in the great commission following jesus resurrection he tells the disciples to go to the nations and perform the signs..again as they already have the Holy Spirit. This was all before the book of Acts had any place of relevance...that is, if you believe the gospels are as early as Christians like to say they are.

Answer this question, plain and simple: If you have the same Holy Spirit that Jesus bestowed upon his disciples, why is it you cannot perform any of the signs and miracles that are supposed to accompany it?
*Can you summon fire to fall from heaven?
*Can your shadow touch people and heal them?
*Can you drink poison and live?

@Seektruth1st . . . Truth is, sitting in an auditorium with a bunch of other lazy people screaming and crying and laughing and speaking gibberish is a much easier way to "feel" christian than is going into the world and actually sharing the lives of others, sharing His word, meeting the needs of the lowly and poor - in other words, most "believers" find it easier to practice the faith on their asses in church than on their feet in the world - Jesus, I'm pretty sure, favored the latter.

Seektruth1st 1 year ago

Please don't tell me I just need to ask or believe...signs are to make people believe not the other way around.

@Seektruth1st Don't tell you that you need to ask or believe? Wow. I really wasn't being condemning . . . . believe what you want.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 I said don't tell me because if i didn't thats what you would have most likely said. As all Christians do, when i disagree with them they say I need to keep asking and just believe....thats the only way they cam make sense that someone cannot see what they see.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st Are you a Christian? I don't really know what else to tell you. Asking and believing is what makes someone a Christian. 1 John talks about testing the spirits, if you think this is demonic, check out that epistle. If you aren't willing to do that . . . I don't really know how to respond to your comment. But, in any case, I meant no harm.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 There is no harm and I didn't take anything in that way. I do not like to call myself a Christian as I believe the name has been dragged through the mud and there are too many that I would rather not be associated with. I like to read the Gospels and adhere to the teaching of Jesus though I do not find any of this to be relevant to his ministry. Loving God and your neighbour hang all the law and the prophets...
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st I agree but there is ministry that happens among believers as well as to the outside world. I don't know how you feel about speaking in tongues but its kind of the same case here . . . its not directly "relevant" to ministry but it is a manifestation of the same spirit that Jesus promised would habitat those who believe. 1 Corinthians 14 explains the proper use for speaking in tongues but otherwise, it would just seem crazy to someone not open to it.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 But why is there so much emphasis on all this hooplah when it was not nearly the focal point of jesus teaching? From personal experience too, I know that this behaviour does not necessarily mean that it makes the person any better or holy either. I have known enough charismatics who are actually more into drinking and fornication than your average catholic. it only begs the question. is this new revival even good? Apparently all this behaviour only goes back 1 century ago.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 I believe the tongues of the Bible may have very well been relevant back then as they were known foreign language and enabled the apostles to preach to other nations so they would understand what was said. It was also a sign to the non believer. Problem here is that if i saw a person speak japanese suddenly and I know they cannot, I would say that is amazing. However todays tongues are random noises that even I can imitate or anyone for that matter. How is that a sign?
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st I can only speak from personal experience . . . when I speak in tongues I do it by faith that the Holy Spirit is interceding through me and that the "language" that I am speaking is first given by God and secondly building me up. No one has personally come to a saving knowledge of Christ by hearing me speak in tongues but I don't think its any less relevant. Plus there maybe an interpreter . . . . Have you spoken in tongues before? No that it makes you any less a believer . . .
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 No I haven't but I have seen it done enough and i have heard many different thoughts on it. there are some who insist that it is wrong and they do not like the fact they are saying things that could possibly be evil or a deception. Then there are people like you who say what they feel. I guess if he testimonies were consistent I would lean toward the possibility.
Funny how scripture says 3 at the most should speak tongues yet how many churches have over 50 people carrying on.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st I look at it as freely given gift. Just like salvation, you can either except it or not. Either you gain in some way or you don't. This would be another instance where I would suggest that you ask and pray about the validity of tongues or any gift of the spirit. But you can't receive without believing right? I think there is a time and place for tongues in church just as Paul describes. I would suggest committing to a church that agrees with the bible and growing there.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 You said: But you can't receive without believing right?
Id also say you can't believe without receiving. The whole scenario is a catch 22. You need to read the Bible to understand and receive the Spirit yet apparently we do not understand the Bible if we do not have the Holy Spirit in the first place. As for joining a church, I am yet to come across a church that is 100% bibe observant. We do not need a church to know God at all. Jesus says nothing of the sort either.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st Ahhhhh . . . . anti-church person? Why won't you commit to a body of believers? We weren't designed to do Christianity on our own. I'm not knocking the validity of your faith by any means but I will tell you its a mistake to forsake gathering with other believers. Jesus died for his church, his bride; even among the disciples, He never meant for us to be alone. You need other people and they need you.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 Why would I commit to a body of people when there are so many different versions of this 'body'? I am yet to feel or even see anything remotely Godly or special about any congregation I have been to. I do not feel comfortable when people start to roll on the ground screaming, or when preachers start babbling 'prophecy' that is so vague that it could apply to anybody. I compare all church gatherings with what is within the scriptures and i am yet to find one that actually fits.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 I do not deny that people need other people but I do not see how being around people who are constantly analysing and making judgement is any help. Always trying to correct one another in their ways, each assuming the role of holier than thou etc. Gossiping and comparing who is the 'better' Christian. It actually feels more healthy and productive to go it alone. I do not recall Jesus saying this was impossible. All his teachings are individual responsibilities.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st I can understand that because it does happen. But I do have good news . . . I have personally experienced a church community who is not like that at all. The one that I can currently attending is the most like what gospel-inspired people should be like and it amazes me and makes me so thankful that they are groups of people who are really committed to that kind lifestyle. So please have hope because churches like that do exist.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 Well I am happy for you that you have found a place in which you are happy and it seems right. Though it makes me wonder how rare it is and how many exist. This would mean that very very few are true followers and hence a very small salvation rate, based on what mainstream Christians consider saved anyway. So do they do this type of thing at your church too? Falling over, noises, etc?
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st Well we very much believe in the power of the Holy Spirit and the manifestations of the gifts of the Spirit as described in scripture. There is an order to how we do it though. Our main services just consist of praise and worship, bible teaching, offering, communion and baptisms. We have small groups that meet throughout the week for more indepth teaching. Then we have prayer and worship nights where there is a place for prophetic things or testimonies, tongues, etc.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 So what is the benefit of tongues? Why have a language of noises? How does it benefit anybody really? What is the difference to an almighty God whether you pray in english chinese or swahili? Does he favour funny sounds over other prayers? How is a bunch of sounds that even I can forge a sign to a non believer? If it were the miraculous sudden outpour of a known language by a person who has not learned it would be far more a sign than random noise.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st I believe it is for building up your "spirit-man". Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14 that we should "eagerly desire spiritual gifts". In a church setting the gift of prophecy is more profitable than tongues unless someone can translate, but its more personally edifying. These "mysteries" that are uttered are spoken to God are prayers spoken by the spirit, interceding for us when we don't know what to pray. So in a sense limited amounts benefit from tongues but it does have purpose.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 I have heard of the idea that speaking in tongues is the spirit interceding to pray for people when they do nit know what to pray, but isn't that taking away from free will in a way? is God in a sense, possessing the person to make them say what he thinks they should say anyway? Why would God intercede to make the person ask him for something when he could just as easily do it if he knows they want/need it anyway? All starts looking a bit odd when you stand back and observe.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st I think this verse sums it up "Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way." - 1 Corinthians 14:39-40
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 I guess the tongues seem to be a very popular sign today though the other signs, conveniently enough are much harder to forge (Prophecy healing etc) Tongues anyone can do, prophecy is very vague and usually some information that is inevitably going to come to pass anyway, healings are always unseen ailments unlike the leprosy of the Bible days. I think I am being fair in my skepticism here as I am only comparing to scripture no less. Did any Christian prophet predict 9/11?...No
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st Its hard to argue about spiritual things . . . there is an element to the mystery of how God's spirit inhabits the believer that I don't think any church doctrine can articulate wholly. However, I'm also one of those people who read about the gifts of the spirit and get excited about them. I've only spoken in tongues but I'm open to other things. I can only speak of what I have experienced. Do you think of the gifts as a more hindering than profitable?
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 I agree that it is difficult to discuss the gifts of the spirit as we can clearly see from all the questions I alone have let alone the many other people who do too. Do I think the gifts hinder? Perhaps they do not hinder a believer in so many ways but do they hinder a non believer? I think they do a little. Mainly because they raise more questions than they convince as they were apparently once intended. (cont)
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 See, it is not due to lack of faith that I doubt the gifts of the spirit, it is more to do with the lack of compatibility that todays alleged gifts have to do with the gifts of the scripture. As it says, the gifts are to convince to accompany the believer to demonstrate to the non believer, just as Jesus miracles were to convince the non believers. Without the miracles, Jesus would not have gotten the attention of the people.Even He said, "If not believe me, believe the works"
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st I can see where gifts can be "misused" or could scare people away but I think it comes to where that person is at more so than the manifestation of the gift. I know unbelievers who came to Christ because through the word of knowledge someone told them things about their life that no one could have known. Just depends . . . personally, I don't have a problem with the laughing. Its never happened to me during worship or prayer but its an expression of joy which is of God.
dancinmama1986 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 Well people who can tell another about things in their life that arent possible to know exist outside the church also. They are generally labelled evil mediums etc yet their information is just as accurate and in my experience, more so than any preacher in a church. Their prophecies are nothing more than "God has a plan for your life" "God is going to bless you soon" etc. I have heard this to the point it is boring and it is bound to happen on some scale in anybodies life anyway.
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@dancinmama1986 Also, off the top of my head, I do not recall James John or Peter in their NT books mentioning any of this behaviour as being from God or if they do mention it, it is by no means a common occurrence as it seems to be in the gentile churches to millennia later. The reason I say these men is because they knew Jesus personally and obviously find all this behaviour of little or no importance. Why do they not talk about as it has ultimately turned out to be the "trend" of modern day?
Seektruth1st 1 year ago
@Seektruth1st I am not saying that James, John or Peter are less credible than Jesus (Mark 16:17) or Paul (1 Corinthians 12-14 and other places) but just because spirit gifts are not mentioned doesn't mean they weren't relevant. In fact I would say that we wouldn't know anything about church doctrine unless there was an issue in the church body that the apostles had to correct through an epistle. If you want to condemn the modern use of spiritual gifts, you can but I can't
