It's definitely live. She even makes a mistake at the beginning of the second verse. She says 'I find the days hard to pass now' instead of 'I find the days hard to face now'. 3 weeks after this she was filming 'Grease'.

i never saw this back then in my lad days of the 70's and 80's, and man this song was a song just fitting her style of her movements of moving her head that she knows eveybody adores her doing for her uniqueness of music style as a singer , she sad the her co pal worker who atarted with her in england showed her unique styles of moving her body and face to those famous movements she made .

It's a real testament to Olivia's sincere style of delivery that she can take on a song with lyrics frightenly close to Dr. Seuss (albeit with a lovely melody) and make it a song that continues to have me "sold" for over 30 years. I do believe that "Sam" is a song that few others singers could ever make work like Olivia makes it work.

Big hit in the UK #6. Unfortunately artists were forced to lipsync on TOTP (union rules) as the public have to hear the exact product they are buying. That rule has long been scrapped, so has Top Of The Pops.

Rubbish!I think you've got that wrong there. There BBC did not force artists to lipsync.They weren't allowed to lipsync or mime as it was called then until the last few years of TOTP

I played keyboards as a session player with some bands - we were not allowed to play live unless the sound of the recorded work could be produced exactly - get your facts right.

top of the pops was on for about 40 years and in the early years no miming (lip syncing)was allowed.You must have played as a session player in the later years when they changed the rules.

I know that vocals went live in 1991 and the whole show was live in 2003. Many years ago in the 70's I remember bands like Slade miming - Noddy hated it as they were a great live band. At least music these days is mostly live - I love Later with Jools Holland.

Livvy was lipsyncing here and recorded before a live audience,yes she was at the top of her game here and a bonified huge rising star,we watched all her fans so close how this lady would become a huge star and how she started from a 15 year old girl reach finally the top,the song was not a huge hit though
