  • I have known about youtube forever, however I have never wanted to address anything until I saw your video. It made me cry. My heart goes out to you and I can feel your pain. I am recommended to a surgeon to get a full TT. I have had 3 c-sections and a partial hysterectomy. I have been trying to find out all I can about this procedure. . I do wish you the very best and I appreciate your honesty. 'Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • My TT recovery wasn't really painful, but I had a very hard time recovery my back posotion; It took me aroud 6 weeks tostan up completly. And the only complicaton was that I got son constipated. But IT really hurts, you can't even cough or snezz because you feel like you are tearing apart. But I totally recomended it. It change your life. I lost 75 lbs. a nd a big, ugly fatty belly.

  • A word of encouragement- I had a TT 7 days ago, and I am driving and carrying things and walking around, so people do heal differently. I'm sorry you had such a tough time!

  • I recently had a tummy tuck/ lower adom. removel on June 11th and after seeing your video I can totally relate! Though you looked 10x better than me afterwards :) My wound opened up after surgery and is just now healed closed. But I would do it all again. Losing weight has been the best thing I have done with my life besides marrying my husband, this surgery was just one more step in the journey.

  • Hi Amelia, my surgery is in 8 days. I'm having a hysterectomy, a tummy tuck, and a breast lift all at the same time. I've have 3 children, 2 of which were c-sections. Thank you for posting your videos like you did. I know it's going to be extremely painful, but seeing you come thru has given me a new "light at the end of my tunnel." Thanks-Stephanie

  • wow you look pale in this vid sorry that your tummy tuck hurts so much hopefully you gain you color back and feel better

  • Thanks for your honesty!! I'm due to have a consultation next week regarding a tummy tuck. I've had 4 c-sections and a hysterectomy...so pain? I'm used to it but this is gonna be different...or is it?

  • Hi Amelia,

I just wanted to thank you for your tummy tuck videos. I'm about to have my surgery (in three days). Do you have any helpful hints or suggestions for me? I'm prepared for the pain after the surgery, but the thought of the drains really grosses me out. Ugh.

  • Comment removed

  • This dosen't mean much now, but I am so sorry for the pain you were going through. This makes me not EVER want to have this surgery, not matter how much excess skin I have!

  • Hi Amelia, I hope I didn't sent this message twice. I was having problems with my computer. I just want to thank you for your videos. I just had the surgery and you have been a life saver in helping me. Keep it up.

  • thank you SO VERY MUCH for making this video!

  • what insurance u have and how u get approve to the tummy tuck? do they cover all the expenses? i am interested but i dont have the money, just waiting here to have funds or way to do it...Im proud of u, doing this surgery! actually scares me, but the result for sure u will love it!

  • I met with my plastic surgeon had a consult had pictures taken and waited to hear back. it was covered fully, just paid my co-pay (very small) as for what insurance i have and that stuff i have a video where the title is "Week 48 insurance explained" Check it out

  • Hello Amelia I am 11 days out of tummy tuck and massive hernia repair and I am still sooooo sore and bored, but I know it will be worth it. You could be my daughter as I am 49 yet you inspire me.

  • Congrats! It gets better I swear and it is so worth it. Yeah you are near my mommy's age she is 52... she doesn't look it!

  • hi, amelia! my name is sara. i am going to have the roux-en-y done on may 18. i have been watching your videos, and let me just say that you are hilarious! you have the wit of a really cool high school teacher. anyway, i had skin graft surgery, twice. they took the donor sites from my belly. it was sooooo painful. they say its equivilant to a second degree burn. i found that holding a pillow on the abdo helps. btw i am afraid i will have excess skin, does insurance cover tummy tucks?

  • Mine covered it, but the plastic surgeon had to take pictures of me naked and send a letter of recommendation and get it approved, not all plastic surgeons are willing to deal with insurance.

  • What should I expect at 2 months after surgery? I am going to Las Vegas in June and it will be exactly 2 months after tummy tuck. Any info will help! Thanks!

  • By 2 months your pretty ok, you should be fine. Just take it easy

  • What was the cost and does the scaring go down?

  • She is right; it hurts like nothing else! I have had about 8 surgeries and this was bad. I had abdominoplasty/hip lipo on Feb 9, at a costs me $10,450. I have gathered a ton of good info if you are considering this procedure. It is one of the most difficult procedures. For example: 1) Buy adult pull-up disp underwear. Makes life easier.

    2) Most of the pain pills cause severe constipation. Shop accordingly.

It goes on. Write to me if you want more info that may be helpful to you.

  • hello looking to go under the knife, got any helpful hints?

  • Mentally prepare yourself. Know that it is going to hurt, will be boring BUT also realize everyday is better than the one before and focus on what the surgery is going to do for you. I never would have been ale to tolorate the tummy tuck without the knowledge that I was getting a flat awesome tummy. Get your mind right

  • I had mine done about 4 weeks ago and it cost me approx. $4900... but I also got a discount b/c I had a breast reduction from the same surgeon a year prior to my abdominoplasty. My scars from the reduction look awesome after a year... they're not nearly as visible as they originally were.

  • who was your plastic surgeon?

  • Dr Suber, he is awesome!

  • My doctor was Dr. Newkirk from Columbia Plastic Surgery Center

  • I have to agree--it's rude to call Amelia a baby! Everyone has a different pain tolerance. I had a breast Aug in '86 and another in '04, along with a mastopexy. I didn't have to take even one pain pill--it did not hurt at all! But my GF had a breast Aug and told me it was extremely painful. Trust me, I didn't call her a baby. . .every human body is unique.

BTW, Amelia, I think all you have done and gone through is amazing. No one can say you took the easy way out!

  • you are welcome to your opinion, this was mine

  • Gosh, I think you did really well. What a rude person to say that. Seriously. Rude.

  • I love that show too.Its o.k to hurt you just had surgery. You did great

  • Ok, I pray I never need a spinal fusion. true that. I will just enjoy the excitement of having a 2 and a half foot incision. Yes I am an admitted baby. Huge wimp. What a champion of empathy you are. I am glad that you were able to do what you did without much problem. I would not wish anyone pain or discomfort, nor would i deny them the ability or oppurtunity to share.

  • That doesnt make her a baby... that makes her human .Everybody has diffrent levels of pain.I hope you have a speedy recovery too.Are you posting videos?

  • I am sending you good vibes honey. I know I'm going to need a full body lift. The recovery is going to suck. Ugh! You're almost done with the pain and discomfort. Hang in there! We're cheering for you :-)

  • thank you for telling the truth of what plastics post op feels like. It's actually 2 weeks since you posted this vid & I'm glad I watched those first (especially the halloween costume one), so I know you ended up just fine. Take Care!

  • Hun..don't feel bad about being in pain we understand..you have every right in the world to complain alittle...Hang in there! We love your videos:)Godbless, get well soon...take your protein! and iron considering all the blood you lost during surgery.

  • Hang in there hunny, it won't be much longer! Don't feel bad for making a whiney vid... it helps other people really see what the whole process is like, plus it's good to see that you are alive! Hope you feel better soon. I hate that real housewives of Atlanta show... I feel like it gives Atlanta housewives a bad name. Not all of them are drama queen b*tches like those women. They did interviews on the radio and said that a lot of stuff was fabricated and over dramatized for TV.

  • you'll get through this.

  • Hang in there baby. Hearing you talk about this, reminded me of when you were a little girl. You have long hair, and would wake up with it all tangled. When I told you that I had to brush it out so you would beautiful, you said "it HURTS to be beautiful". Just thinking about you... Love, Dad

  • I was just telling Joel last night that you used to say that and then I told Joel.. Dang I am gonna be gorgeous if that is true! LOL just kidding.

  • God bless you Amelia. It's me 'CANTWAITTOBETHIN' - I sent you a note last week telling a little of my exper. with GB. Rest up and watch your cat doesn't jump on you. I think you have made many friends by sharing with everyone and hope you will email me in time. I wish you the best always.

  • I think you are missing your Mommy to be honest with you. You just aren't used to being alone. It makes pain feel worse.

We are sending you gentle hugs.. This too shall pass.

  • My dearest Amelia, you have all the rights in the world to be whining. I heard from a lot of people, that this surgery is one hell if a ride. Nobody expects you to be a happy camper. So, throw yourself in a miserable pit and endulge it!

Greetings from Germany - struggling with my Bypass!

  • amelia. its gonna be ok, JUST take care of yourself and relax and watch REal housewifes of atlanta and just go with it.. I have never had that type of surgery, but I can see it in your Eyes through this video that you are uncomfortable... so take care ok?

  • It's ok to whine, you worked for it!! Get better soon and stay positive. Don't overdo it!! Take care Kelly

  • I hope your feeling better soon...your description reminds me of how I felt when I knew I had to deliver babies, it is so fun making them and being pregnant is nice too but then you have to get them out..!!!OUch!!! LOL. and I had csections so I can relate to "it only hurts when I laugh" hopefully Joel doesn't do that to you..My hubby is so funny he made me laugh all the time...but hope you feel better soon. I know it hurts like Hell...

  • "and it's not going to be "fun" incapacitation either"... I love it! Amelia, you are one of a kind! You must promise to keep posting, no matter what! I so look forward to seeing what is new in your life!

  • Amelia...take care of you! You will back to feelin' better soon...glad all went well!

Be careful and listen to your doctor...take iy a day at a time! ~Betty

  • wow, just the arms, not the tummy for me. No way someone with a toddler could do it. Feel better soon and take plenty of narcs!!!

  • and i thought I was in pain from these bypass cuts still opened on my stomach....hang in there Amelia!

  • Wait I dunno if you've answered this or not but how are you able to take this much time off from work without being fired??

  • Yeah, they need me, I sell the most. Heck they sent me flowers. They want me back in time to have a good Christmas selling season. No worries, thank goodness!

  • Amelia, have you tried sitting on a beach ball? Ok! I know it sounds funny, but I do it all the time when I fly. Get yourself a beachball if you dont already have one. Blow two puffs of air into, any more and it will be uncomfortable. Then just have a sat right on it! If it's uncomfortable, let some of the air out until it's comfortable. I promise it works! :)

  • hey it is OK to whine first of all being couped up is enough for anyone to go crazy .and unable to move. I went through it with my OPEN gastric bypass . as for your eyes to get a cheep pair of reading glasses to try out for your needle work ? thank you for being so open hope get up and about quickly

  • even with glasses i couldn't see, but I can now and i am happily stiching the time away

  • Aw, I really feel for you and hope and pray you will get better real soon! Perhaps once the drains come out, you will turn a corner! Keeping my fingers crossed for you! Hugs, Cami

  • you have every right under the sun to whine! you've been through the ringer for sure. enjoy your TV shows :-) and don't forget to eat (to keep your strength up!)!!

thanks for being honest about the pain, bc i think alot of people don't realize how serious the surgery is until they're already coming off the operating table lol.

  • ur so cute! trust me its all worth it.. and ur beautiful <3

  • it's fine to whine! heck i would if i'd been through what you have!

  • I hope you feel better soon. Its all gonna be worth it amelia!

  • Amelia, I am praying for a speedy PAIN FREE RECOVERY! I can't imagine how awful you feel. Beauty has a price tag, sucks that it is so high. I am unfortunately gonna be right where you are when all this fat comes off..I knew the tummy tuck woudl be the worst part...Hang in there girl!

  • Whine away Amelia, i have been where you are and i know the pain, a quick tip: get a hemorrhoid pillow (blow up ring) and a heat pack for your tail bone, it was the only thing that gave me a few hours rest. I had a bad infection after a c-section and had to have a lot of debridements, they say its like a tummy tuck without the cosmetic effect (darn!!) and i did my fair share of whining to, its all apart of the healing process, so Hugs (gentle ones) from Australia x x

  • Even at your worst time you can still inspire!

Your amazing and I can tell you still have that spunk! You r not whinning. I'm happy you r sharing and hope your feeling better PDQ

You have come such a long way it will all be worth it! Get well I will pray for you. luv, laura

  • Thanks for taking the time to share your progress, eventhough you are feeling crummy. I hope you feel better soon!!!

  • Hey Amelia, I hope the pain subsides QUICKLY. I know how you feel about not being able to do anything and it drives you nuts. I am a very active person and I can't stand being cooped up for one day, let alone a week. Get well soon and I can't wait to see your updates. Feel better soon!!!!!!!

  • I bet you will turn the corner really fast. in another day or two you will be in much better shape with no constant pain. Hang in there! I have been thinking about you every day and hoping you are mending quickly.

  • Hi how are you! I saw your videos from the start to end. I have decided to do the gastric bypass surgery. Im 24 yrs old, all my life has been a suffering with my weight issues and I always have dream of been in normal weight and wear beautiful cloths. Im afraid Im so afraid but after watching your videos it gave me a big push! To finally do it Im going to the process Im just waiting. Im excited and afraid.

  • About TV shows. I am hooked on True Blood from HBO. Its awsome. Your videos are always so real. Take care of yourself. Don't try to rush your recovery. I did that and popped a stich and it hurt like hell, well, that's an understatement.

  • AMELIA!!!! Girl you are so unbelievable! Who else would even care to sit there, 'au naturelle', and tell us how painful and yucky the after-effects of a surgery are, and smile at the end! You are going to show all of us your tummy in about 3 months and we are just gonna drop our jaws, just like we have with everything else you have challenged yourself to 'bring it on' while you have kept on keeping on. You are frigging inspirational. Thanks for being you. Blessings...Gina La Cubana

  • I've had this procedure done also, and agree that tummy tuck is really really sore, but a couple weeks done the road you'll fully be able to see how worth it this procedure is.

The days after surgery are the hardest, especially the after surgery blues. Good luck, many thoughts are with you.

  • Hope you feel better soon! You looked so uncomfortable! Take your pain pills, you'll feel so much better! I'd take them when I first get up in the morning, and then before going to bed so they help you sleep.

  • I'm so sorry you are in so much pain sweetie...hang in there..(hugs) Becky

  • I LOVE THE REAL HOUSEWIVES TOO!!! I CUT MY PHONE OFF AND I JUST SIT THERE IN AMAZEMENT. LIVING AND GOING TO COLLEGE IN ATLANTA, ITS SO SICK. ONE WOULD HOPE IT WAS SCRIPTED....DOUBT IT. THOSE WOMEN REALLY LIVE LIKE THAT. I know a few. Sad. Anyways, you look ok, I feel your pain. U are still my inspiration. NO TT 4 me for a while. Gotta have babies first, but wow. Im preop 11/19/08 Can't wait! Hang in their Girlfriend!

  • You are so brave and beautiful !!!

I can hear your pain in your voice.

All I think about is how on the shows on TV (like Dr 90210) they show tummy tucks and the people are back in the office feeling all wonderful in just a week. We now know that the show is a crack of bull. lol

Can't wait to meet you in November at the meet and greet.

Hang in there you are AWSOME!!! you have been an inspiration to me and many others.

    Tina

  • Amelia! You're spirit is shining through. Thank you for your honesty. Hang in there, we are looking forward to getting to the other side with you. Rest and be well.

  • you're allowed to wine...take it easy...

  • You get rest take care of you right now. I am happy things are slightly better

  • Amelia I can so understand why you are in so much pain! And so bored too! With you having the pain of being in the recliner all the time, the incisions and having the drains OUCH! When do you get the drains removed? I am sure that will be nice to have them out! You will be back on your feet and feeling so much better before you know it. But try to take it easy for now! Praying for a speedy recovery for you!!!! Hugs Kim

  • Hey, Im glad that youre doing good, Real Housewives of Atlanta is my guilty new show too, have you found a blog for the site at all? What are you eating now that your tummy tuck post up? Soup?

  • Hey! Sweetie!!! I'm glad to see you at least trying to get around! Get your rest, and remember this is all worth it in the end! We'll be here when you're ready! I'm still praying for you!

    Luv U

    Janelle

  • EH... take a pain pill and quit all your whining already!! I'm just kidding...totally just a joke! Seriously, get to relaxing and feel better soon. Best wishes, <3 Mary.

  • You need to get some rest. I know that it is hard to stay still but you need to not worry about us and just heal. I was a nursing assistant and worked Plastics. The nurses always told the post op tummy tucks to hold down a pillow over their stomach before they coughed. The patients said that it helped. Feel better soon, catch up on some movies you haven't seen in a while, and Remember you look fabulous now and are going to look even better when the swelling goes down. *hugs*

  • I just watched some of your very first videos and I'm seriously like tearing up right now. I don't even know why! I think its because I'm still in the pre-op world and I just want to cross over very badly. I want to wake up tomorrow and be 50 weeks post-op! I just feel like I can't get there soon enough, plus being scared I'll be the one that fails. Thank god you've posted your videos. You've changed my life, no kidding. I was getting the Lapband before I saw your videos. Glad I changed my mind!

  • haha yeah I think I commented before you got this surgery that it would hurt worse...or maybe I was just thinking it? I remember this young girl on "I want a famous face" on MTV had the bypass surgery, lost 140lbs, then had a tummy tuck and boob job. She straight up said the tummy tucks hurt waaaay worse than the bypass and felt like death. But two months later she looked FABULOUS!!! So, I know you'll have the same experience. Hang in there =)

  • AW your not a whinner. Your just sharing your feelings which I think is so great! Your a very strong minded person and you know you'll get through this. I can only emagine how frustrated you are right now.

  • You're amazingly brave, and I can see how much in pain you are... but you are a fighter, and amazing... I wish you the best!

  • oh amelia... even when u whine, ur great! hope u get better!!

  • hope you can rest and get better. Will be thinking about you.

  • My thoughts are with you! Mindless TV is a resonable "escape"....LOL! Take Care!

  • gosh i hope you heal fast, i had ards when i got my tummy and boobs done , it sucked i was in so much pain, and could not breath and in hospital for a month which sucked and so it is worse pain in the world hardest surgery i ever went through and i have had ALOT of surgery, take care and do deep breathing it helps

  • aw girl, my thoughts go out to you, you have had a hard surgery, you have every right to have a little whine. All the best, you are so brave! Hope you feel better soon.

  • Well during a surgery i had i also had a drain and it was the worst pain i ever felt in my life...

  • OMG you poor thing. OUCH! Who can you whine to if not us? We are here for you. This will be over before you know it. Take care and take meds, Vanessa

  • jesus, i hope youre ok. you are SO pale.

  • i wish u a super speedy recovery

  • Honey, don't let the pain get ahead of you so that it's too hard to handle. Please take what you need to stay comfortable but not loopy. Tasteless treats can help to keep you distracted...that's a good thing.

  • Ouch I hope you feel a little better each and every day. Just think of how great you are going to look in your clothes. I bet you will have to buy some new ones. I have just started the road to get qualified for WLS so I have a long way to go yet but seeing your videos really give me hope. You are so strong and you have had the best attitude through this. It is ok to complain right now because sitting around healing sucks. This to shall pass just keep telling yourself that. :)

  • Seeing what you are going thru, makes me wonder about those people they say are addicted to plastic surgery......... That stuff hurts to much to get more and more and more of it......... Feel better soon, I know you will look amazing !!

  • *hugs* dont feel bad about not responding! you've had your whole body sliced and diced. feel better and keep up the good work!

  • You're not whining! Just telling it like it is. Hope the pain goes away soon and you can move more. Take care and think about afterwards how wonderful it'll be. Don't suffer, either. Take what you need.

    All the best.

  • PLEASE Whine away. you had another major surgery. Don't worry about writing people back. We all know you are HEALING!! Take care of yourself. I am a BRAVO WHORE I watch almost EVERYTHING On that channel! LOL Get better soon!! ~ Nicol

  • your not a whiner, you're in pain & healing...just hang in there chica...you look amazing and have put your body thru a lot...

you'll be okay...have you been reading?? hang in there we're wishing you the best!! Hopefully Monday when the drains come out you feel a lot of relief!

  • I had open gb and it is hard. I can not imagine having two different open incisions. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I wore my binder every day for a month. Movement gets better week two or three. You look great considering. Keep rested.

  • Gosh Amelia, I'm sorry that you feel like that, but its practially ok though. You'll get through it and just remember its not a forever feeling. =0)

  • Don't get the gastric bypass surgery, or you will be suffering like myself, going 13 weeks without losing no more than 60 pounds. I have a doctor that's racist lying to me all the time.

  • poor you! I love those wacky shoes! can you believe those people! i have watched all of them, but have been having problems finding when the atlanta ones come on...but i love those shows! have no clue why! hugs, jane

  • I've been there done that I feel for you,,BUT it is all worth it ok love rosemary

  • hang in there, you will be fine, don't worry we still love you, take some time to take care of yourself, best wishes, hugs, take care

  • Hi Amelia, I feel so bad that you are in so much pain. Don't worry about writting back to us. People will understand. It's not easy at all what your going through. You are very brave. You need to be resting and let your husband take care of you. PLEASE take it easy and get plenty of rest and try to sit still so you can allow yourself to heal. I'm still praying for you. Use your pain medicine. Don't let yourself suffer. Get well soon. :)

  • take it easy lady. You had major major surgery and I know all about the drains ect and it is bound to be painful. Just don't overdue and wind back up in the hospital.

  • Hun there is only one word to decribe ALL of this and that's "Determination" and one cannot help but to look up to you, congrats on fufilling all your goals Amelia!!

  • You can whine anytime! You have earned it. Best wishes!

  • Aw poor honey I send you well wishes and hugs

    Viv

  • Hang in there, you're gonna look fabulous!!!

  • i have some questions wheneva you have time!

  • The Real Housewives are SO hillarious! You should see the New York and Orange County shows too, talk about SPOILED!

  • I'm happy to see your videos, but stay in your recliner! We don't want to see you in pain. Can you move the computer next to the recliner? Take care, Becky in CA

  • I don't know why my comment didn't post, but anyway...you are very brave, and very strong, and you will get through this. I wish you weren't in so much pain. But this too shall pass.
