After the revolution the army's leadership was dissolved. All generals were jailed or they fled the country. Sanctions from the US, Iran couldnt get parts for its american based army. Everybody was also helping Iraq, everybody. Not to mention Iraq had a very strong army at that time. But now Iran's army is slowing coming around again, albeit they have a lot of old equipment. But they do have a selected few weapons that everybody should be afraid of, including the US. Iran is no easy target.
