@Tribesister I was just going to say. First heard about this collaboration on NPR's "All Songs Considered" podcast in March '10. Bob Boilen had invited James Mercer and DangerMouse on as guests to talk about this album, and when they played this song to close out the show, Boilen just went "Oh wow.."
I love the bit "just touch your SHINbone" I always read that as a big up to mercer's other music project, the band "the shins." (which I equally love)
@Intheflesh44 Most random yet deep comment I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. Where does this come from all of a sudden? Everything OK?
And my respond to it is that most people are simply afraid to follow their dreams, truly say do and live life like they want to because they are afraid of rejection and/or failure.
@xOEHLALA Yea, you know, just pointing out how life sucks for everyone a lot of the time. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption and the ice capades...to quote George Carlin
those 4 are probably the very same that would be the first to quote: "stop, hating is bad" if you say rap sucks... In reality, they are actually saying: "Don't have good taste!"
@geopolovin Lol. WOW. So you just like a song because it's not mainstream? That's so ridiculous! This song getting mainstreamed doesn't take away any of its quality! o.O
Broken Bells is the only music that i can actually say that i can listen to without any problems. The Music of today is so terrible and this is refreshing and sheds hope and inspiration to future artists who still see a value in making great music and not using autotune to make money.
from my previous experience of 'Dangermouse' - Jemini the gifted 1 (Ghetto pop life) and the Doom collab (DangerDoom) you can see where Im coming from but this is amazing! Already done a bill on new music this week and now i HAVE to cop this.......beautiful stuff. Have they toured with this? or is it a studio project??
A friend of mine turned me on to these guys yesterday, and I've been listening nonstop since. I see no sign of stopping either. Thanks for some great music!
a couple a bands these days still manage to give you that tinglee feeling inside your body. You know when you get to this part of the song and it just fuckin puts a brand new man in you! Love it
@65Thebean not exactly hidden... The Shins and Dangermouse were/are both major players in modern music, and this group is well exposed. But they are in fact freakin awesome.
@65Thebean not exactly hidden... The Shins and Dangermouse were/are both major players in modern music, and this group is well exposed. But they are in fact freakin awesome.
I absolutely love this song! It is only once every couple of years a song grabs me like this one. As a child of the 70's and 80's this really strikes a note.
Dont get me wrong, I love this song and the band. However the begining of this song is just flowing audible bliss, and then it jumps to this bouncy Broken Bells style song. The opening has not been done justice, it needs to be used but flow better with the rest of the song and be sewn into lyrical genius.
I used to be one of those kids who just began to be a prick every time a song I liked ended up on a TV show or movie I didn't like but I kind of got over it. I am just happy that people have nice music to listen to now besides Top 40 and crap like that.
This is pretty awesome, but it's not revolutionary or original or anything. There are dozens of bands out there like them. Still really good though!! Just sayin', no need to jump down any throats. Just listen and enjoy!
Broken Bells are so hot right now. Amazing what happens when two true artists combine their efforts and bring something completely new to the table. I will say there are shades of Death Cab and Gorillaz but still very unique. Dangermouse layers on the tracks yet it never feels overproduced. Perfect harmony of melody, edge and lyricism. Can't wait to hear the follow up album!
@SharpFinale Today's music? You probably never say it, and you'd be fully justified. Broken Bells is one of the few pleasant diversions in this tidal wave of terrible music we are experiencing.
@xIxHeartxBulletsx I hope the irony is not lost on you that assuming I'm pretentious because I can use a single metaphor just results in you being the pretentious, if not ignorant--for thinking I dress like a socialite because I can speak a language, one.

@LmaoLaneyLee Versus mainstream though. I mainly listen to underground-y music and I have tons of it that I enjoy, but generally the stuff they play on the radio is getting worse and worse.
My buddy introduced me to the broken bells a month ago. I'm completely addicted to their cd. I've listened to it about 30 times in the past month I think. Hoping to catch them when they get near Kentucky.
This is an amazing, melancholy song. The intro is so atmospheric, elegant, and gentle--and then it goes to another level entirely once Mercer's vocals kick in. Also, maybe it's just me, but this song feels very...cinematic. I would love for it to be used in a film. It screams "montage!"
