  • I love that song

  • this is absolutely beautiful music, does anyone know what she's saying?

  • morning song for sure!!!

  • everyone's got 2 blankets.....and in those one's chasing after.....and in those one's got a carousel....in those one's got feathers.................got white feathers in those...blankets..........

  • ...pura poesia...

  • qué lindo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SUPER music

  • Very cool...love it...

  • Can anyone explain me why the Fred Frith videos (going solo or with Iva or with John Zorn) get much more audience than his real masterpieces with his group Henry Cow --- unbelievable.

  • @vogelmandrie Because at least one-half the world in brain-dead now for a multiplicity of reasons we all know. How could this ever beat,"Nirvana for Mice" or any of the other tasty treats?

  • the alarm sound used to be traumatic for me. back when I was in school that's what my alarm clocks sounded like. I smashed 3 of them against the wall.

but after listening to this song so many times I started to like it :)

  • Sheriff little Doodle fired a shot at you whoooooo woooooo!

  • incredible, intimate, the violin playing is so rythmically in the groove, the clocks sense of timing is amazing.

  • This is beautiful.

  • I'M NOT A COMLICATED HUMAN....... I JUST ENJOY MUSIC, AND IVA IS AN EXCELENT ARTIST. SIMPLE LIKE THAT

  • That violin!

  • iva and pavel. i got the album back in 199something after hearing this on radio. one of my favourite albums ever.

  • ooh sshhiit!

  • so nice to find this video again, I had in in VHS when I was teenager :-)

And I just found out that Iva Bittová is going to open the gig of my band Valravn tomorrow in Ostrava!!!!

I am so amazed and honored, looking forward!

  • I think the sound is from a little Braun alarm clock AB1. You can see it later in 'step across the border.'

btw: What is she singing about?

  • Fred Firth teaches at Mills College, Oakland, California. He's probably playing the guitar. The song's beautiful

  • OMG! I cannot believe I found this here. Or anywhere. I have this on old vinyl and would occasionally put it on the air. Thank you to the poster!

  • amazing

  • My opinion is that if you don't like the alarm sound, you're missing the point of this piece. Just my opinion.

  • goosebumps

  • Few women have ever been more attractive than Iva in this video.

  • there should be a discrete name for this kind of music, which in my mind also includes fairouz and martha sebastien et al. its hard to actually any word that doesnt show up when googled though....

  • i want to know too, what kind of catagorize this music is? especially the violin part. awesome !!!

  • i would be awesome if someone could translate the lyrics. this is a beautiful documentary, and a beautiful song.

  • It's something like:

    Everyone has two duvets

    In which one chases

    One has a rollercoaster

    One has feathers

    White feathers

    In the duvets

  • thank you very very very much.

  • gracias :)

  • very nice song. I would like to know the lyrics. Thanks for sharing.

  • i luv luv luv this video & song

but that alarm beeping in the background just kills it for me

  • ya, the alarm sound is annoying, but overall i love the it, especially the violin part

  • @masonev The alarm sound was a perfect way to start the song titled "morning song"

  • @mistermaster2000 agree, but not while they are singing :P

  • @masonev but it's in tune and they are playing with it, going with its' time and fitting the chords and the violin playing to it. music is all around you-)

  • i have to watch it again and again and again

  • so do I!

  • there was a really good iva bittova video removed from youtube a couple months back and I cannot for the life of me remember th title of the song. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I think fred frith was in it, but he may have actually been playing auxillary percussion. Some famed bassist...argh!

  • Was it from the movie ? (I mean "Step Across the Border")

  • youtube: v=lNxz_gP3TxM

  • Nice quirky twist with the alarm sound.

  • rewelajka!

  • Still a great tune after all these years. Thanks Iva.

  • One of the reasons I use the radio to wake myself up. :)

Thanks for posting this, mekaniktom. I'm going to find that movie now.

  • wow beauty and innovation

  • charm

  • GREAT and the film is one of the best I've seen!!!!!!!! ;D

  • The guitar part is identical to Four Tet's "Twenty Three".

  • Yes, Hebden used this!

  • Wow, really? Cool.

  • Awesome

  • un vrai delice !! ça me donne envie de revoir "step acoss the border" , meme si j'ai deja du le visionner 10 fois !!!

  • One of my alltime favourites! :))) Glad to find it here...

  • Hey, everybody! If anyone has at least an audio track of HEART BARES (by Fred Frith, from the album Cheap at Half the Price),

PLEASE, POST IT here! This piece is worth listening! You'll get addicted to it...

  • Art Bears. ;)

  • This is creative. Beautiful. Poetic. A master Piece!

  • wonderful soulful song

  • pre bolesno....

  • this video has so much heart. :) love it.

  • v těch se honí.=he is chasing himself

V těch má kolotoč.= in those he has a carrousel

  • English translation

    *************

    /:

    Everybody has two duvets,

in those he keeps after himself.

In those he has got roundabout.

In those he has got feathers.

He has got white feathers in those

    in duvets.

    :/

  • Original czech lyrics

    *********

    /:

    Každý má dvě peřiny,

    v těch se honí.

    V těch má kolotoč.

    V těch má peří.

    Má vnich bílé peří

    v peřinách.

    :/

  • I translated the lyrics for you. But i'm not good enough in english, so maybe it isn't all right. In lyrics there is a lots of methaphors and in czech there is many words with same meaning but another feeling; and i don't know if i used accurate words for translation. But if you would know what each word means, it's probably adequate.

  • Can anyone please translate the lyrics into english or italian?

  • Fred Frith - Step Across The Border - OST

  • Can anyone shed some light on which album, if any, this song appears on?

  • ...and what the song is called in its original language.

  • It's "Periny" from the Bittová & Fajt album

  • I think this video should get an award for the best use of an alarm clock ever!

  • I can't understand the lyrics. Can someone transcribe and translate please?

  • where is fred frith, and what does he play? klockradio?

  • Fred is only listening to the music behind the camera :-) This video is taken from a Fred Frith movie "Step across the border". The "klockradio" is played by Pavel Fajt.

  • so beautiful.. Who is she?

  • she czech composer and singer, name iva bittova, i recommend her recordings!

  • man i so fell in love with this song many years ago, thank you thank you for uploading.

  • beautiful.

  • I remember this from seeing Step Across the Border way back when. Great music, great use of the alarm sound (I had then & still have one of those alarm clocks).

    Thanks.

  • Why is it called "Morning Song"? Only because in the movie it supposedly played in the morning? Does the original soundtrack call it like that? The original title of this song as recorded on "Bittova & Fajt" is "Periny" (Peřiny), which means "blankets".

  • Hi Mekaniktom, I'm glad to see your excerpt ;-)

  • Ha! Thank you! I never thought I'd actually find anything by Iva Bittova on Youtube.

  • FANTASTIC!! Iva is diva :) ...thanks for this video...
