Just to clear it up, Electronic Q's are completly legal, however normal Q's (mechanical) aren't. however some engines may still run them if there are no higher ups around, they are allowed to have them on the truck jsut not use them... well they aren't supposed to use them

That's actually a Federal No. 28 siren. It sounds great but not as loud as a Q. Note how the air horn almost drowns it out.  You could hear a Q above almost any air horn.

If I remember correctly, 21 doesn't have a Q, but a smaller old federal siren, mabe a model 28. E-34 does have a Q, but was not using it.

You may be right. The siren didn't look as big as a Q but the winddown was about the same as a Q. Must have a good set of bearings on it I guess.

You're absolutely right about the smaller siren. There is a still photo of TL 21 in the video "Pierce of Seagrave" towards the end and it clearly shows a small Federal siren on the front bumper. Thanks.
