kinski could not stand that, ever for a few minutes, he was not the lead man of the movie. he is defiant and he actually tried to embarrass the girls. herzog was furious, but still he kept the scene. because that was kinski and that's what made him great.

[I can't believe that this video is flagged as "may be inappropriate for viewers under 18". WTF?] I Saw Cobra Verde yesterday evening and came here to search for this exact scene again because I think it is one of the most arresting scenes in the film. Utter Genius how the dancers appear seemingly out of nowhere and proceed to enchant Kinski as much as the spectator.

In 1985 they took part in the Fifty-Year Jubilee of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, and were judged the best National Juvenile Troupe. Later participated in National Intertourism of 1986, INDUTECH'86, INDUTECH'88, and in the filming of "Cobra Verde" movie, known also as "Slave Coast" or "Yesil kobra", released in 1987, when were invited to Elmina castle. Next year movie won in categories Best Production and Best Sound on Bavarian Film Awards event in Munich, Germany.

Ziavi Zigi is an amateur performing group based in Ziavi village, suburb of the Ho capital of the Volta Province in southeast Ghana. Ziavi is located about three miles to the north of Ho (which geographical coordinates are 6°35'0N, 0°28'0E). "Zigi" is the name of a Northern Ewe people recreational dance originated in their last major pre-colonial settlement Notsie. Zigi is today performed in places like Peki, Hohoe, Kpando, Ziavi and Ho.

Ziavi Zigi group was formed in 1975 by Mr E.N.K. Akorli, who composes, arranges, and teaches the traditional songs and dances. Co-leader is Mr. W. K. Dake, a teacher at the middle school. Troupe consisted of thirty people, made up of twenty girls, eight boys, and two men. Mawuse Akoril, lead singer and lead dancer, is in fact daughter of the founder. Other members mostly have been pupils of the middle school.

As you can see each girl plays a rattle (akaye), a gourd filled with beads producing a dry, brittle sort of sound, functions as a marker of pulse. Indigenous Zigi songs are repetitive, thus a song leader will never sing a repetition the same way, but will always improvise the repeat, also adding vowels at beginnings and endings, commonly "e".

My mistate, song is not in Kikongo, but in Ewe language of Northern Ewe people of Ghana. Chorus: A-goo lo! A-me le me! Translation of the song: There is someone inside, chiefs, elders of the village, Ziavi warriors, them, people of village, theirs, owners of the village.

And I hear in 1st song's chorus something like: "a n'golo a melengue", then in beauty's speech: "mia en ie, ziavi' zigi zyou ...", in 2nd song: "io wes alelle awe, ie wes alelle awe", in 3rd: "gas ma tada wa danha, gas ma tachi - owa new a syon'", in 4th: "gai lele manaya lo". Maybe this is kikongo language ? Could sb verify it ?
