  • ur bit of irish saying at the end was not nice. VERY RUDE

  • I can record while it's plugged into my pc with my MD80 Clone. Hold the record button when plugging it in and it will charge and be able to record

  • thank you very helpfull

  • hey,

can you give a step guide because i plug it into my computer and it does nothing

plus when i press the power button it goes red for a short time then blue then it turns off again

i tried a plug adaptor and it still doesn't do anything

  • Great help! Thanks!

  • hi i bought one of these cameras but i accidentaly broke the cd that the drivers were on would you by any chance know were i could download the drivers from thanks.

  • @jamezzzzzz1986 I think the driver is only to use it as a webcam, you shouldn't need it, my disc did not work when i got it but someone elses I saw was just full of photos and specs for their range of products + the notepad stencil to set the time and date on it

  • My MD80 worked last night, plugged it in overnight and now the blue light stays on constant and the only way I can shut it off is by hitting the reset button. Also it won't record using VOX or the regular record button. It's like its frozen, plugged into my PC it's not recognized. Made a video last night and it worked fine. I ran the CD with the English setup program. None of it was in English I figured it was the drivers and installed them. Got a bunch of DOS prompts. now cam doesn't work

  • how can i change the battery of my mini dv md80 ?

  • @TheTrompeta1000 - I also think my battery needs changing/replacing (after about 1.5 years, it only holds about 25min charge) - If you have learned how to do this, could you pls share the information with me?

  • Thanks!, charged it nearly all night (USB), was still blinking, just stopped blinking as i watched this vid for the 2nd time just to be sure, lol! perfect timing!

  • Supposedly on the md80 #3 model you can film with an external power source. It has a mode (which stays on until you turn the camera off) where you can record while it's plugged into USB (computer, charger, battery pack)--just hold down the record button while powering the camera on (with either power button, or plugging USB in). Source chucklohr website. When mine arrives, I've got a 2000mHa pack here that should be more than enough juice to fill a 8gig card, just under two hours of video.

  • did you say Póg mo thón?

  • how long should i charge it wen i 1st get it?

  • @SeanHellOMG A couple of hours.

  • can you take pictures with this

  • @101toonlink No you can not, on this model at least.

  • Oh.. and one more thing... If I ever charge this camera again, how long time would you recommend for the first time, and for all the other times?

  • @tvloserDK Charge for about 2-3 hours max

  • @FranksTechHelp After 7 days, only using the camera once the power button stopped working, so I can only turn it on by charging it, and then unplug it again.

Really a poor quality camera :-(

  • Hi FranksTechHelp,

I am afraid I've overcharged my battery, and made my battery hold a charge for even shorter time.

Because I read the instruction manual as it says is very important to do.

And in the manual it says: "It is important that you charge the battery fully"

And since that little light never go off, I just thought... well it must take a long time this first time. And I even plugged it to to AC adapter, not a computer.

After 16 hours of charging, I found this video.. What should I do?

  • @tvloserDK It says to charge it for 8 hours the first time but I think that is too much. I would stick with 2-3 hours. I've never been anle to tell when mine is fully charged either because the links just keeps blinking.

  • @tvloserDK I have done the same now, plugged it into computer fully charged just to get a video from it and fell asleep all night with it in, it will not turn on anymore unless I hold down the power button then switches off when i let go, did you get a result???

  • Couple quick quesitons..when i charge mine it has the red/blu light and sometimes it just ared non blinkin light, what does that mean? And mine only records in vox(even if vox is off) an i get it to record continous, or is mine damamges in some way?

  • @silentcaution Sorry, my typing sucks tonight...

  • it seems that when i turn on the md80 a red and a blue come on and stay on but when i press record the red light flashes fast and than shuts off after about 30 sec HELP

  • @azodinblitzchicago Sounds like a battery issue to me, have you fully charged the unit, how is it acting now?

  • @FranksTechHelp

Having the same issue too. Will try charging again thanks.

    Barry

  • That's exactly what I needed to know. I just received the camera and wasn't sure of the expected behavior for the charging indicator lights. It's been charging for about an hour and still blinking, so I wasn't sure if it would actually stay solid when it was done. Perfect solution for me. Thanks!

  • very helpful, thank you!

  • nice 1 thx for that did'nt get the ac charger with mine

  • Cheers Frank. Are you aware that there are two types of USB2 connectors? There is the usual data type and a powered type, most laptops have both. The powered connectors are to allow you to use power hungry accessories such as external hard drives. So from what you said, I'm guessing that the rear USB's on your laptop are the high current ones. The symbols are different to allow you to identify them. By the way, like me, you have the plastic D001 clone, not the real alloy (heavy) MD80.

  • THANK YOU for the tip about holding down the record start/stop button to operate the camera from an external power source. So far my MD80 (or fake MD80) has lousy battery life and I was thinking I would have to open it up and run wires to an external cell from the internal battery. Turning it on as you said lets it run on any external USB power supply or 5V battery pack I can hack together.

Thanks again for this excellent tip.

  • @atgm8888 I had the same problem with my MD80 (clone mine too !!) .

Thank you Frank for this excellent tip !!!

  • @atgm8888

I can't find the video that shows this, so If I plug in one of the many 2xAA battery booster packs that you can buy, and start the camera by holding down the record start/stop button, the camera will keep recording until the 8Gb memory card is full (about 5 hours). Is that right?

  • @GaryXJ6

It should work as long as the booster is putting out 5 Volts. I am sure anything between 4.75 - 5.25 Volts should work. Hold down the record start/stop button while pressing the normal ON button and the camera will turn on using the external power. I think you will have to release and press again on the record button to start recording and it *should* keep going until the memory card is full (haven't tried it yet), unless the camera is set to the sound triggered mode.

  • @atgm8888

Thanks very much. I was going to use mine as a cheap car dvr, as the instructions say it uses 1Gb every 40 minutes, hence the need to boost the battery life from 2 to 5 hours, but I've now realised that's a complete lie. The camera actually only records for 12 minutes per Gb, so an 8Gb card is full before the internal battery dies anyway. I think my camera could be heading back to the shop I bought it from.

  • Hi, mine only works for voice recording. If I open the disk it has two folders "Record" and "VLT" both inside main folder "Video".

how can I get the cam running??? thanks

  • @mahosta Hey there, sounds like you may need the correct codec installed. Go to Google and type in "K-Lite" it's a free download and should fix your video issue. Let me know how it goes.

  • if you make an external battery pack up from(must be rechargable batteries) 4 batteries AAA solder on a USB lead. With the md80 turned off, hold down the record start/stop button and plug the USB lead in the camera will now be powered from the external battery pack

  • @120boc Nice mod, thanks for sharing this!

  • I can't seem to make it work on a macbook, any tips?

  • @nielsjuh06 Let me see what I can do and see if I can come up with a solution video for you.

  • @nielsjuh06 Hey there, just plugged my MD80 into my MacBook and it showed up as a drive and I could access the videos. Can you describe your issue so I can try to find a solution for you? Thanks

  • Hi guys, my batery recharge fully in to hours, but i have used another cable insted of the original, the origibal cable dosn´t charge the camera you can acesse the camera sd card but it cant recharge the camera.

for those that can´t turn on the camera and see only the a few seconds of blue light just use another usb cable (tested on two cameras).

if it works spread the word ;)

  • @SQT81R Hey thanks for posting this solution, I added it to the description to help out more people. Thanks again!

  • @FranksTechHelp i bought two cameras , the md80 and the keychain camera and i have received two cables, none of the cables was able to recharge the cameras, i even have bought a replace batery for the md80.

After replace the usb cable i was able to recharge the cameras in two hours each one and with the original batery of the md 80 i can record 1H35min (on my first recharge of the bateries) , i have also bought yesterday a jelly lens fish for the camera ;)

  • @SQT81R That's great info for everyone who has been having trouble. Why the heck would China not just offer better cable instead of making their distributors offer so many refunds for defective units. Another viewer even went so far as to remove his batter and charge it on a multi-charger to prove this same point. Of course that's China for you, just shove it out the door and deal with the backlash later I suppose. Sometimes they put out great stuff and other times it's complete garbage.

  • @FranksTechHelp Please answers to two questions

1.How long charge it first time?

2.You can give teg lens fish for the camera?

    Thank you!

  • @McPainN1 I would charge for 8 hours the first 2 runs, and then about 3-4 hours after that. If your unit doesn't run for long or charge properly then try a different cable, the ones that come with it are cheap and don't always work well for charging. Some people do use tiny fisheye for these but haven't done it yet.

  • @FranksTechHelp Thsnk you so much!

  • DUDE thanks so much lol, taking this paintballing with me sunday so woooot

  • @Paintball4life55 Sweet, post us a video after you go paintballin'

  • for my one, the red light blinks and the blur light stays on!

  • i left it chargin for at least 9 hours..the blue light was still blinking, and it didn't record more than 30 min...wtf ??? what should i do?

how do i know it's full??

so far i got 53mins of recordin ...max.

  • @mamiferuD 60 Minutes is about the max you should get. Try running the battery down and charge for full 8 hours the first 3 times. This should increase your battery life, if not then it might be defective, there are a lot of reports of bad batteries on these units. Hope this helps.

  • cheers mate big help thank you from the uk

  • Thanks for the informative video specific to the question of charging, am about to take the camera out for a spin on my motorbike with 20 other riders so heres hoping the MD80 doesn't let me down! xD

  • My camera came, i removed it from the packets it worked i switched it off; i plugged it in; and now it wont come back on; is this normal ? or is it faulty - Since i've plugged it in i've not seen any lights.. :l should i leave it charging all night?

  • @iianthaa Make sure the sd card is removed and plug it in again, let it charge overnight, if it won't turn on then Yes it could be defective. There are a lot of these unit that show up defective. Hope this helps.

  • @FranksTechHelp Thanks will try that again; and will leave it charging when i go out :)

  • what happens when the light just turns red and doesn't go off.

  • @Gunny670 Does this happen when it's plugged in or even when it's not plugged in? If it happens even when it's not plugged in then it usually means that it is frozen, try removing the memory card and reset the unit.

  • hey i buy one of these and the red and blue always stay open the only thing i can do is reset

  • @gate077 Make sure you let it charge over night the first time, also make sure card is formatted to fat 32 before putting it in camera. Hope this works.

  • Yesterday I got the MD80, I put the charged about 2.5 hours and worked only 18 minutes?

After that I filled two more times by the same 2.5 hours, but the camera worked even shorter, about 10 minutes. What else can I do? Maybe throw in the trash?

  • @liftboymeister You should charge the unit for a solid 8 hours for the first three times and then you should see some improvement, however, there are known issues with the battery in these units. I would let it charge for a long time the first few times and see if that helps.

  • @FranksTechHelp Thanks for the advice, I'll try to extend the charge, but I constantly blinking blue light for charging and I do not know when it is full.

  • @FranksTechHelp Unfortunately the battery has become completely unusable.

I went back and wait for a new camera, hopefully with better battery life, but I'm not optimistic.

  • @liftboymeister That blows about your batter, those things are notorious for bad batteries...

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for the help, been trying to get mine to charge for a while so ill try hooking it up to the back usb port, again thanks for the help

  • I got 3 of these cam now, none is charging correclty. Bullshit items.

  • @ninjalowang Did you get all three from same seller? These are notorious for being hard to charge. One guy actually took the battery out and charged it externally and it worked great. I think the issue is that the computers usb isn't pumping enough power to charge these units correctly. But you are right, B.S. item for the most part...

  • Ok I have news. It SEEMS like its working, on 2 of my usb (netbook) with other usb cable (not that one that come with camera, but this is not sure) and the pc must be shut off.

The blue light will be permanent + the red light also.

    I am still on test.

I got 2 time more than 1 hour recording with 2 of them.

How long is your recording for full charge?

  • seems like its working, but with pc shut off and with anotber usb cable. I got with 2 camera 1 hour recording, how long is your?

  • @ninjalowang Not that long, haven't fully tested it lately tho, will have to get back and let you know when I unpack it, just moved so will let you know.

  • I see no green light on mine... only blue and red lol

and same problem, don't charge :( will try again witout sd, on another USB port of another computer, longer, and several times...

  • @ninjalowang That makes sense, there are so many of these and all are different now so it's hard to keep up with so many models now.

  • hey frank.. me again.. =D

with the camera, everything worsk fine.. i have only problems with charging.. :/

the FIRST time i`ve charged, that was 8 hours.. mini dv was still blinkin (blue light)..

it works for 30min, and then was the batery low..

the Second time.. i charge it now for 12H.. the blue light is still blinkin.. and the green & red light (on direct USB charger) both ON.. ://

  • @KeVeNT64DSCW120 Some of these units are known for having battery problems so anything is possible. I know the first three times I charged mine I had to leave it on overnight, each time the battery got better and it works better now. But some people have told me that they had to return their unit to get a new one because of battery problems.

  • Hey, when i turn on my MD80 the blue light flashes very briefly, then it turns off, could this just be low battery? or a fault?

i've only had the camera for about a week and it still works as a webcam i just can't get it to stay on!

    Thanks

  • @TheRedline65 Sounds like a low battery. Try to charge it overnight, If it does the same thing then remove the memory card and put it back in. If it still happens then the battery is probably bad, return it for a new one. Many people are having battery problems with this product.

  • @FranksTechHelp Thanks, will do =]

  • I was charging it more than 24h but the blue light was always blinking..what should i do? Do i have to worry? I read that it needs only 1-2hours.. :S

  • @st4ur0s Mine does the same thing, I think it's pretty normal for these units I think.

  • Thanks, just received my camera, which was completely flat and plugged it in to charge. There was just a red light with a blue blinking light, even when i pulled the usb cable out, but i think its the 'protection mode' the manual talks about (when it has very low power). I will charge it up completely and see what it does.

    Thanks for another helpful video!

  • @ParryGaming I usually remove the memory card while charging just to make sure it's not accessing the usb instead of charging.

  • Actually, nevermind my last post. I took out the memory card and it solved everything. Thanks for your time. And for telling me how long I should expect a charge.

  • I have the cheaper version, and it was plugged in for, maybe 4-5 hours? And I looked at it and all it has is a solid red light. I unplugged it and messed with the buttons to see if that would do anything, but no. It is just sitting here, unresponsive to anything, with a solid red light. Do you have any idea as to what I should do?

  • @amorton94

press the reset button i did it and now it works

  • Thanks for explaining this - the manual is USELESS. It came fully charged which was also confusing.

  • @claymationuk Thanks for posting, don't be confused by the pre-charging, there have been a TON of complaints about this unit having faulty batteries so who ever you purchased from has taken the time to do their job right and make sure you get a good unit. China is really starting to piss me off lately with the quality control issues. It takes forever to get a replacement and it cost a fortune to return. Sounds like you got the best end of the deal! lol

  • does a solid red and blue light also indicate a full charge?

  • @NEOexSOLDIER Yes, that is correct.

  • hy!

My date and time is blinking when i see the recorded video. Why?

  • @szarnyatlan Looks to be a problem with the camera itself, mine does the same thing, not not all the time, seems to differ from recording to recording.

  • what is the battery size? search on EBAY for lipo battery with 3.7V and 240mah and more BUT with the same size.

what is the size of the battery.

  • Can you record to its memory while you're charging it?

  • Very good question, I tested this with USB to computer and USB to wall charger and you can not record while charging, sorry. Thanks for posting and hope this helps.

  • How much time do you need to charge it on the USB and on the AC charger?

    Thanks for the video!

  • Charging time from full drain is about 3 hours on AC or USB. Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for the answer.

Well, in my camera (i don't know if it is fully charged or not) i try to get it on and i don't know what happen, but the blue light go on and 1 sec later it go off... and the camera don't record anything.

Maybe is broken... and even does't record 5 sec of video.

I will wait for tomorrow for the full charge to try again.

  • Yes try to fully charge and see if it works. Mine acted strange at first also. Make sure you fully charge it and use the power then full charge again the first few times of use. Let me know if it works.

  • After some days trying to charging the camera.... it doesn't work.

It's a faulty camera and i know there are more with this problem.... for the price we can't ask much than that...

Maybe i will try to change the power supply for a external battery or something like that and it will be my last try to getting it on.

  • I mixed up my power supplies. I have one with AC 150ma input, DC 300ma-400ma output and another with AC 100ma input, DC 500ma-550ma output. Can you tell me which is the right one ?

    Thanks

  • My wall charger unit that I plug the USB cable into says (Input 110-240 Volts at 0.3a) and (Output is 300ma at 5 volts) which is the same voltage as USB. If you can plug a USB cable into the wall adapter then it should be 5volts output, but you do have to watch the amp/ma aren't too high. Hope this helps.

  • Ok Franks, thanks for video. Very clear.

A question... do U think it is possible to change the internal battery? Did U open the cam? Any ideas about where find this kind of battery?

    Thanks, from Italy :)

  • Yes, I opened it, you could wire a new battery but no clue where to get one from...

  • @inquisitorexx

its 3,7V batery right?? you can get a 1S lipo batery,, its 3,7V,, =D

i will do that, if i have more and more problems with charging.. :/

  • @KeVeNT64DSCW120 Excellent Idea!

  • good vid
