  • Assume that's West Tip and Rhyme N Reason in fourth and fifth.

  • Although I like the theme tunes they have used since, this would be the best along with this tune that they changed a bit in 2000.

  • Simon Holt joined Channel 4 as a replacement for Raleigh Gilbert who was on the verge of retirement at the time of the latters 1994 death

  • which meant Raleigh Gilbert doing the St Leger but prior to 1994 it was mainly Raleigh Gilbert (at Newmarket in the early stages of races that was until 1993 and occasionally would deputise for Graham Goode as a single commentator another example being in 1990 when Graham Goode was in New York to commentate on the Breeders Cup while Raleigh Gilbert was at Doncaster to do the Racing Post Trophy) and Graham Goode as main commentator and in 2000 Simon Holt replaced Graham Goode as main commentator

  • Do'nt forget they inherited the ITV team of which Andrew Franklin was one he was behind the camera they used the same three commentators from ITV they did use John Penney on occasion (this was mainly at Newmarket on Camebridgeshire day when it clashed with the Arc weekend when Graham Goode would be at Longchamp which meant Raleigh Gilbert was doing the finishes) and on St Leger day when it clashed with the Irish Champion Stakes Graham Goode would be in Ireland to commentate on the latter for CH4

  • AND THEY got rid of the team that they inherited from ITV although some of them did retire before the new management came in

  • ohh happy days when c4 cared about racing

settle down with paper, pen board ,black coffee and jaffa cakes for 3 hours of racing bbc and c4 and racing results after every race

ohh ahappy days my grandad always got more winners than me oh i miss those days

  • @vania1013 Yes it's strange how the quality of their coverage has gone downhill during the past 5 years. Today they seem far too focussed on irrelevant petty details about betting and to me Big Mac seems to lower the coverage quality whenever he is on the team. I often find it rather draining to watch the bits between races now (other than when Francome and McGrath are being given airtime). The BBC's coverage seems a lot more professional - although that's become very rare today!!

  • @Annon1100

budget slashed by over 50% since the hey days plus new producer andre franklin hates big mac and betting wants it to be more hello magazine than racing post jim and john hardly get any air time

watch with sound down and betfair radio
