People seem to forget that this song was written by an amazing Canadian musician, Iam Thomas, of Dundas, Ontario, Canada. Brother of comedian Dave Thomas of SCTV fame.
Good Lord! I was looking on wikipedia and saw this song, and thought I'd never heard this before. Turns out I have, but not for nearly 30 years! I remember all the lyrics from the radio!
I heard this song several times on the radio back in the mid '80's and never did learn who the artist was until I started looking for more America songs to add to my collection. Now I can't stop playing it.
i remember when they are in camp john hay at baguio city they just playing jammin at the restaurant thats was 1991 love those song they sing wow thet rock
This is one of the best songs America performed. When I listen to Dire Straits son "My Parties", I always think of the doorbell...not ringing but plays america this song...wonderful...
everytime i hear this song there is always a flash back of my life. like an instant time machine. thanks man for posting this great song. i appreciate it :)
I like to make up movies in my head ( I got some Oscar winners in there...I think lol) Anyway, I have always wanted to use this song but it certainly was not your traditional romantic scene. Long story short, Guy is about to get Girl but it is first interrupted by bad guys and jackie chan style fight scene ensues. Trust me, if I ever make the movie it will be pretty cool.
I remember hearing this as one of those songs that seemed to be playing softly as background music in every single Restarurant, Doctor's Office, Supermarket, Dentists office, Waiting Room, Hospital, Principals office ,etc back in the day
I actually used to do this as a cover working with a band in the 1980s. Now, Greta Garbot arrived in Hollywood in September 1925 - Rudolf Valentino died about a year after that, but they never worked together or even met or knew each other.
Still a great song, though and one of my favorites.
One of the sweetest songs I've ever heard.I only knew the lyrics-'staring like there's no tommorow'. But I did a google search and found it.I'v always wanted wanted to get this song and finally I found it.
This is my sister's favorite song. When we were kids we would play the cassette over and over again. We're grown ups now and she's living in another country. I miss her and I miss music like this. It's a privilege to listen to such good music.
Love Ian Thomas' version just a bit better, but this is awesome, too. I remember both versions from the 70's. They don't write songs like these anymore.
Great song--always loved this one...nothing like thi anymore...Are there no decent song writeres anymore??...I guess all we can do is liten to the oldies station...but his one is a jewell
I was an 18 year old(Black kid, lol) on the bus to work with this on my walkman, and a great big smile on my face. This still brings me a smile. Great song!
Every day I sit beside you On the bus to madison avenue Work in the big gray store With the revolving doors You don’t even know my name I guess that I’m to blame Don’t know the right things to say So I pretend away chorus: That I’m rudolph valentino Pull up in my limousine Oh, won’t you come in out of the rain Things’ll never be the same And then just like greta garbo You stare like there’s no tomorrow And you’ll know what I’m thinking of Right before your eyes I fall in love with you
thanks for reminding me that u were singing this on the first day of ur visit.......maybe i didnt notice....am sorry...i was maybe very young before but rest assured your presence was counted and treasured..
Love this song, as I do everything they ever did. Major fan and have learned all their songs on acoustic guitar. I just wished I could sing like Gerry.
I don't know if I would call them an "English-American" group. The only English connection is their fathers were in the military and stationed in England. They did meet and form while there and I believe had a hit or two before coming "home".
this used to be a 'harana' song of my brothers during their younger days..how i miss those times..it's such a beautiful song i wish my man would sing this one for me..
My cousin Jokoy—who has adored anything Western from Vanilla Ice to HBO to Michael J. Fox to Sean Connery—knows the lyrics by heart, or at least the revolving door part.
We used to listen to it in Bongs room in Naga, which he then acquired when his Ania Bong went to Manila. The Life pictures of Rudolph Valentino flashed in my mind, and Greta Garbo stared at me like theres no tomorrow—a haunting photograph of one celebrity whom I hardly met.
I remember vividly working in a factory in my early twenties...listening to this song playing on the radio....it may the tme go by faster:) Classic song
the songs back then. it wasnt about sex, drugs, partying, how much money they have in the bank. good times.. good times..
