  • Another great Sooner team. Went on to destroy Auburn and Heisman QB Sullivan in the Sugar Bowl. Sullivan won thanks to OU's more talented QB Mildren and HB Pruit splitting votes.

  • RIP Mr. Mildren

  • BTW, 48-27 OU, which fueled to coming fires of the "Game of the Century"

  • Wasn't former Redskin Mike Thomas on the 71 Sooners? I think He eventually played for UNLV

  • @MrTennesseeVols I think he was a freshman in 73 not 71

  • Jackie Wishbone. . . RIP

  • At the risk of sounding unappreciative, can someone post clips of the '73 Texas/OU game? My favorite!

  • @LarryRickenbacker yeah, ou destroyed texas, 52-13

  • The Red River Border War

  • Greg Pruitt, Roy Bell, Joe Wylie, Leon Crosswhite, Jack Mildren. Tom Brahaney

    Need I say more?

  • Jack Mildren #11, RIP

  • Oklahoma vs Texas is a Border War in the best sense of the term

  • I'm a Longhorn fan and this video brings back some hazy memories from my childhood. Great footage, great piece of music, thanks for posting.

  • Only now did I find out that Jack Mildren died. Young man at 58, hard to believe that a tough as nails guy like him would go so soon. This was before my time, but playing FB in the 80's, we still went up against teams that ran the optionWB. Hated to play against it and I never was more worn out as when we did. He was a great one, one of the finest at it ever. RIP, let the perpetual light shine on ya....

  • Thanks for the memories Jack. I remember watching the OU/Texas game of 1971. It seems like just yesterday. God bless you Jack. Oklahoma is a lesser place without you.......

  • I am getting so old.

  • Let's hope the success of GT and Navy will encourage a major D-1 athletic director to bring back the Triple Option: the greatest rushing offense ever!

  • Great Texas boy - great man. RIP and thanks for sharing. I remember this game very well. I was 9 years old, a Texas fan (still am) and couldn't imagine all those great Texas HS players crossing the river. Thanks again -& Hook'em Horns!

  • I am a Husker fan, but this is pretty cool.

  • OU OU OU OU OU OU OU!!!!! YEA!

  • I am a life long Nebraskan, NU grad and was a boy in 71. I grew up rooting against the sooners but you must admit, these highlights capture the feared OU wishbone very well. Thank God the HUSKERS found a way to stop it a few times

  • Very nice tribute to a wonderful man, and a pioneer in the game.. Does anyone know the name of the song in the video? Nice touch..

  • You were my hero 11...

  • RIP, jack

  • God bless you Jack. BOOMER SOONER!

  • he is the godfather, and such a great man. he could have lived off of his ou and pro career, but he was such a gentleman. he was my hero, and he is looking down on us with a smile on his face, because we are looking at him on the net. he is an icon

  • the Godfather of the wishbone,,,,,RIP Jack!
