Whatever the name, Istanbul is the most charming city I've ever visited, it even beats Paris! Love the people the food etc.. And I now have a Turkish daughter in law.
@youngottomanslap Well for me it is Constantinoupole because my ancestors renamed that city from Bysantium (that was the current name) to Constantinoupole. The name Istanbul is how the Turks(when they sieged the city) heard of the Greek phrase Ys tin poli (=Into the city in greek).
Ys=Εις=Into, tan=την=the, bul=πόλη=city and if you say those three words fast it sounds exactly like this for a man not familiar with the Greek language: Istanbul
So as long as there are Greeks this name still exists.
@Antixandros I didn't want to sound like a hater. Only Greeks use that name anyway since the city is occupied by the Turks. But the name still exists!
