I just built a new machine and panic set in when it didnt boot.
It had these half assed locks on that I thought odd when I fitted up the mems (4 Vengence units). After trying to use the auto mem config etc and reading the MB book and sweating about what to do I remembered the sticks just dint seem secure at the non locked end. for good measure I removed and reinserted all 4 chips. The system did boot.
NB yep they were the right way rond both times. And this is a feature!
Your QDIMM technology made me fry my mobo mem controlled as well as my ram stick. No, I am not an idiot. It was late and I was fiddling with the cpu fan speed, and in order to get to the switch, I needed to remove the first ram card. When I went to put the ram back in, I mistakenly put it in upside down. I snapped the bottom side in, then the top and because of the QDIMM it rocked the card on the key so that the top locked in and the bottom QDIMM clip pulled out.If it was normal that cant happen
@Amuffin456 Maybe you cant read. If i was able to see the DIMM i would be able to figure out where the key was.. but since i couldnt i just snapped the bottom QDIMM in then pushed the top in and the top locked in. BUT BECAUSE OF THE QDIMM THE BOTTOM CAME OUT AND ROCKED ON THE KEY...... If it was normal the bottom would have locked in then the top wouldnt be able to because of the key and i would realize it was upside down.
The single latch will screw the pins in the slot if your RAM has a slightly thicker than normal PCB. The lateral movement required by having one latch will pull and bend the pins. Experienced this on my old Rampage 2 GENE -- that was not a fun night of upgrading. Thankfully I've sold that kit and have not since had any issues.
@EXPieRIENCESBD You would only say that if you've never had to install memory in a form factor like this. Heck, it's even handy with a regular ATX case.
@EXPieRIENCESBD It's not intended to be a performance feature. It's a convenience feature, just like the clips on SATA cables or retention clips that are possible to set with only one pair of hands. Sure, these things aren't necessary. They're little things designed to make the overall user experience a more positive thing. Trust me, if you're using a mATX case, this is a knuckle-saver and a time-saver.
@dragonthc Sure you can. Once it's locked in, it's seated properly. The memory slides into the further-inside clip and is held firmly in place. If it's not held in sufficiently on that end, the outer clip won't lock.
ASUS i am very disappointed with you i recently spent a lot of hard earn money $570 to be exact on the ASUS Rampage III Black Edition only to get a defective motherboard the 2nd PCI-E slot was not working, at the moment i am trying to get a replacement
@747jonas did you receive to less love from your mom or because you're talking like that to adult people. 19 years old and got an empty room where has to be a brain
@cwsef yes, i live in my dads basement, and im poor, i cant afford food since i bought a new computer with 32 giabyet ram and an gtx550 togheter with an i3... /b/ told me that was a good build...
@VioletMould watch at 0:49 ... if you want to reinstall the rams you've got to stick your hand into the tower. if you want or not. why? because you have to push down the ram on the other side too or it won't be installed properly. and in this case this "innovation" is useless. this is not a flame cause i'm using asus products since long and i will use them in the future also.
@cwsef have u used the maximus iv gene-z? im using it right now in my main system and that is definitely not true. you need only do push down the first side and the automatically locks in. that in itself is the innovation, because it allows you to work with mATX systems with much more ease than before.
can we see a vid of you trying to put the memory back in tho, bet it aint as easy lol

Atx motherboards

it also works well for 480 x motherboards because of large heatsink fans damn a block the latches near the cpu socket

show us how Q-DIMM helps in refitting the RAM

Now do that for cpu heatsinks!!

you are a gay for making this video about "Q-DIMM"!!! i wasted my time on this...

@Heli0s283 And also not exclusive to the ROG boards.

You did not show refitting the modules!

@rgopp Ive got an asus motherboard with out it, and its fine how it is, this does nothing to improve performance or proficiency.
QDIMM is something that just doesnt need to be implemented... imo.
To each their own i guess.

Crosshair V Formula has that DIMMs

that is not a very useful feature.
I want to make sure my RAM is seated properly before I apply current. Can't do that from such a tiny acute angle.
