If the "black churches" mission is different then the Bride of Christ then the black church is not a real church its a whore house full of idolatry and whoredom, but you could say the same about most so-called churches....
the Bible clearly states in Colossians 2:14-15; "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross. And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly TRIUMPHING over them in it"
that's not failure Mr. Cone. smh! That is SUCCESS!! sometimes all of this education can make a person sound crazy!!
Why should you suffer when others are being healed? Why even die before your time, when others are being healed with Nature's Formula healing tea. Please take the time to view our channel. Thank you and God Bless
Mr. Cone made a blasphemously false assertion. Christ Jesus absolutely did succeed! "It is Finished" was declared by the Son on the cross as He finished all that God had required of Him to achieve our salvation. God did not turn a failure into a success- for if Jesus failed, then there is no salvation at all. He lived sinless, died sin free and rose from the dead. That was no failure.
The music here is distracting, unnecessary and quite ridiculous. The words of Dr. Cone here are so profound that no sound-track is needed to make it better.
Just as the Nation of Islam is simply the Muslim faith for black Americans so Black Liberation Theology is Marxism repackaged for black Americans. All true black Christians will see it for the lie that it is. The gospel of Christ begins with our need for a Savior, the gospel of James Cone posits that this Savior is the state...no one can serve two masters...so choose this day whom you will follow...Christ or the state. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!
I need this man to speak in every church in my area! This is what it is all about and he has nailed all of this stuff to the floor-everything has become about how to get rich and all of that! Ultimate Sucess-now i like that! Jesus gives us Ultimate Success! Peace!
I think that we all take Cone's point wrong when he says that Jesus failed. Jesus DID , in fact, fail when you look at him from a Dominant worldly perspective. From the Jews & Roman's perspective it was obvious that Jesus failed. I think that is the point that he was trying to make.
I think that we all take Cone's point wrong when he says that Jesus failed. Jesus DID , in fact, fail when you look at him from a Dominant worldly perspective. From the Jews & Roman's perspective it was obvious that Jesus failed. I think that is the point that he was trying to make.
JESUS DIDN'T FAIL! Cone made some great points but missed it with that statement. on Calvary's cross Jesus stated; "IT IS FINISHED!" she completed EVERYTHING that the Father (God) wanted him to do. so, how was that a failure? sometimes these educated cats are too deep for their own good. lol!
I do not think that Jesus failed. He came and He did exactly what the Father wanted Him to do. He succeeded. I think that Mr. Cone stated other thngs well but, missed on this point. Jesus' success did not come in that He preserved His own life or of those 12 who followed Him. The Lamb was BORN to BE SLAUGHTERED. If we are to speak of REDEMPTION, this SLAUGHTER cannot be absent. For this reason, I am watchful of CRYPTIC speech amongst men.
There is much truth to what he says, but I must disagree with one of his point... Jesus did not fail. The bible statements throughout its pages that Jesus came to DIE so that HE could REDEEM mankind, PERIOD!
He is wrong, the church should not be political because it is part of life, but only in the sense that we should recognize the sinful nature of the secular world in all it's ways and not be a part of it and warn the congregations not to practice or be involved in it, because when we are saved, we are not of this world and only passing through for Jesus said "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."
May God apply swift and proper justice to this racist piss ant. May Cone spend an eternity writing on the Lord's black board, thou shall not be a dumb ass.
Here is a quote from the Lord Jesus: “Except a person is born again of the water & the spirit he CANNOT see the Kingdom of God; U MUST BE born again..... Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand" Gospel Jn 3. ANY person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God (the revelation of God) has EVERLASTING LIFE (now); whoever rejects this truth of Almighty God has the wrath of God abiding and is already under condemnation.
What? Jesus was a failure and God turned it into success? Uh - no! Jesus was God in the flesh who freely gave up His riches to become a man. He came here to show us what His Kingdom was about and to show us He cares for all of our needs no matter how small. He then gave His own life on the cross to be our sacrifice for the sins of mankind so we can reconnect to God (salvation). How can you be a failure when you are in control of everything? Answer: You can't be.
Charles Rangel signed on for this: Public Law 102-14 states emphatically that all civilization from the beginning has been based upon a set of laws entitled "The Seven Noahide Laws". Public Law 102-14 sets the foundation for American and United Nations Law to be established in such a way as to uphold these Seven Noahide Laws
It amazes how WHITE PEOPLE often call Blacks racist when Blacks denounce or speak against racism. But WHITE FOLKS have never been able to see their own racial prejudice or hatred that is deeply ingrained in them. Most of the comments posted by white respondents on here display the deep-seated hatred and contempt that Whites hold against people of color.
Until blacks, or human beings still blinded by the comprise of the human confine called race and pigmentation, adapt the spiritual law and let go of the carnal flaw, idolatry will define. Color, race, history, geography, customs and even traditions are all man made, the Great Architects request of man did not fade, but many Gods before him has been made, which one do you worship. KINGZOFKINGZA INC 5773 2000
Of course not,it was deemed as a safe haven at 1st,so that slaves, could meet in secrecy and plot and plan against the white slave owners,so that we could get to freedom safely. We used their arrogance against them, since they were shoving THIER belief down our throats.. Then,We,like dumb asses started to actually propagate this bullshit!
What institution in the black community has contributed more to the betterment of black people than the black church? The church is not perfect by any extent but the church will always be the bedrock of our community because of our African ancestry.
@dmoore76 The NAACP, the ACLU,etc..these are NON-faith based organizations and that have fought for our advancement & benefit. the blk church is the culprit for our current state of being the white man's whore. We (as a ppl)will do ANYTHING for money and as long as the church gets their cut, they encourage this behavior. We didn't even HAVE Christianity in AFRICA at that time. That crap was shoved down our throats by our oppressors. It (religion) was meant to control & divide.
So the NAACP and the ACLU have done more for the advancement of black ppl than the black church has? Really. When we had no where to turn to, the church has always been there. It is unfortunate that you feel like the white man's whore. Black folks have always had religion(belief in a higher power).
@RedSkullthagreat You know nothing. You know nothing about the black church. Shut up. If you knew anything about the black church, you would know who was the abolitionist force in the North, who sent missionaries to educate new freed slaves after emancipation, who didn't discriminate from membership based on the darkness of black skin, who fought for civil rights while white churches did nothing, who has its children burned within its walls so you can POST IGNORANT CRAP ON YOUTUBE!
The church is one huge con game. We(Blacks) will never get ahead with this thinking. We mobilize only to give the power BACK to the oppressor. We base our beliefs on faith with NO evidence to support it,NO logic,NO concrete information. Science and Technology fuels our lives, but we believe in a fake god, that never proves he exists.Plain STUPID!
So, you're saying people of "faith" have never fought against racism? I think there are more examples of black "believers" fighting against racism than not.
Only to "lead" us in the WRONG way. For example,it was known that MLK was a adulator, but Malcolm X was shunned even though he was faithful to his wife. He actually lead by example more than King. When we get real deal leaders then they get killed, jailed, and all that. So much so,that, one can tell who is for real by how much they get messed with. So ,no I'm not saying that people of faith never fought against racism, just that they never KEPT fighting, till the fight was through, which it was'nt.
It is only public that King was an adulterer because he was "messed with" by the FBI until his murder. Are you saying that King quit fighting? Malcolm believed in "God" as well. He didn't quit.
King never really started"fighting",he just TALKED us all to death,no real action,"marches and speeches only reach those who already know about them"-Andre'3000, It just speaks to the fact that he was beneficial and detrimental all in the same breath. He a walking pacifier. A permission slip for cowards,to punk out. Malcolm was mislead as well but his intentions, were way more pure. The fact is no black person w/ ANY brains, will believe in a fake GOD.
That also does not account for why the FBI considered MLK to be such a threat and why there were so many attempts to assassinate him. If he were such a coward, he would not have been targeted the way that he was.
I am curious. Who for you are examples of leaders who didn't "punk out?"
On paper, those threats were diversionary tactics to distract attention from MLK's REAL role in the Federal "snitch" program. You must remember that EVERYONE was getting threatened back then. That is in no way a qualifier. Please share with me just how you got Malcolm had no brains from anything I said. Or are you getting emotional behind King's adulator,Preacher Pork Chop ass?
Of course Brother Malcolm X,Marcus Garvey,Nelson Mandela(even though his wife did him wrong.)Paul Roberson,Jack Johnson,Bobby Seal,Harriet Tubman,Jim Brown, just to name a few.
@RedSkullthagreat U really don't seem to know much about Martin or the black church, or black history in general. I mean Martin had more courage in his pinky finger than all of us here commenting do combined. See this is what happens when you allow the government to white wash a man who was a revolutionary. Have you ever even read his book "Chaos and Community: Where Do We Go From Here?", or what about his Letter from the Birmingham jail? If you did you would see how totally wrong u were.
lol and ur HIGHLY wrong. U really need to study history and READ something cause you have no idea what you're talkin about. I mean i'm not even a Christian and I know the HUGE positive impact the black church has had on Afrikans here in Amerika.
@AJ3686 -U need to worry about U, and don't tell me what I need. The problem is YOU don't know what either one of us is talking about, You seem to be a cat that talks out of his ass, and if your not Christian then why defend them from the sidelines. That's a real poser move. Dig deeper than Massa has authorized you to,if your shovel isn't too short.--lol
lol i'm defending TRUTH...while u just spit lies while posing like u conscious or something. And I can't just worry about "ME". I'm an Afrikan...theres no such thing as "me". Pick up a book bruh...matta fact read the brother in the video's book on Malcolm and Martin. And all of his books on Black Liberation Theology. Dr. Clarke said it best, white folks have tricked us into picking sides when it comes to Martin and Malcolm. Instead of just learning from both of them....
@AJ3686 -As am I bro, how arrogant to assume I haven't read a book or 2-hundred. So Information,be it classified or destroyed, doesn't survive in print, and everything in print isn't the "truth". Martin was a adulterer(Preacher Pork-chop),Malcolm was NOT. In the end it was Malcolm's original suggestions that won out, even the Boycott was a rip off of how Malcolm trained the NOI to sanction, boycott, and organize. BTW, U really think insulting someone is the best way to get them to do ANYTHING????
Yeah? Well what is with this "Black Church: thing and what is your definition of theology? Is it the elimination of the white race like this Cone asshole believes? "The Great Commission" as in Matthew should be the primary purpose and lifes blood of any Christian Church, not racist comments about how whitey has kept the black man down for so long. This is not politics this is hate teachings. Idiots like this guy make it a black and white thing. Why is it only a black church?
Cone does not teach theology in my opinion but sociology which he tries to intertwine with theology but fails at every turn. But because he speaks on the behalf of "an oppressed race" blacks are willing to take he word for it instead of actually studying the scriptures. I never hear Cone talk about things like Sovereign Grace or the Abundant Mercy of God or the Atonement for sin or the Intercession with the Father by the Son which are the basic tenants of Christianity
Sir I would agree that there are many black people who do not know who James Cone is but you must agree that the vast majority of those who do listen to him are indeed black. He teaches black liberation theology. Secondly give me some examples because if he does then he contradicts himself over and over from the several interviews and lectures I've heard him give.
At least let us use the scriptures to either defend Cone's theory or to debunk it. It does not matter what I or Cone thinks about the cross but rather what Scripture teaches about the cross. Can we not all agree on this. Let the scriptures be my voice in this discussion and not my own opinion. Let our consciences be guided by the Word of God and not by any thing other.
So,... I'm white,.... and when I'm in church we don't refer to our church as a "white church" It seems like blacks LOVE to pull the race card. James Cone is a racist. He shouldn't be in a church talking about religion.
Also Jesus Christ did not fail. He failed if you take this world's view of success. But it is clear that Jesus viewed success as doing the will of the Father. His humiliation was part of His success. The Word became flesh so that we could become children of God. Jesus was successful at this though his incarnation, suffering, death, ressurection, and ascension. Without the cross Jesus is not a success. Only with it is Jesus a success. Jesus was a success.
That is not what he said. And that is very important. But really it was never failure because it was God's will. He did the will of the Father. It was in God's plan to save us. Jesus chose to lay down his life for us. The romans, jews, and many others perceived it as failure because they did not understand the reality of the situation. Christ did thus he could see the cross as not failure but success. It was humiliation though. And BTW God did die on the cross. That is very Christian.
I would disagree with you that God died on the cross. I don't believe it is possible for "God" to die. I believe Jesus and all of his humanity died on the cross but his seperate devine person did not die because it is impossible for God to die. Would you not agree?
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Cone is completely wrong about the Gospel of Jesus. The question is where in the scriptures do you ever find the word failure in connection to Christ or the cross?! Cone attempts to say that Jesus was a 1st century lynching and that redemption cannot come without reperations. He foolishly does away with the Sovereign grace and replaces it with a "profound cost" It's like the man never read about men like Paul. Cone is a heretic simply put
It is interesting that he said "Jesus failed on the cross but GOD turned that failure into success." This implies that Jesus and God are not one and the same. Maybe that is not waht he meant but that is what it sounds like. It sounds like a rejection of the Trinity. After that he should have been run off the stage for heresy
The Trinity is in the Bible. It doesn't say Trinity but it explains the Holy Spirit, God and Jesus. Time is a Trinity. You have the past, present and future, yet they are one in the same, time.
You don't have a clue do you? Cone is the author of the book, "Black Liberation Theology" Have you ever read this book? This guy is a racist and he doesn't belong in some church. This isn't really a church , this is a black KKK meeting. What would happen if I started a white church, just strictly for whites and I talked about blacks in a negative way? Wonder how that would go over? "If God isn't for the white man and for the elimination of the black race, we had better kill Him."
I have read his book and I could not believe the incredible rationalizations this man has and the hatred he holds deep down in his heart for not only the white race but his country also. Rev.Wright, expresses his belief in black liberation theology with his volatile outburst when he goes into his insane ranting pretending to be preaching. These are spiritually sick and hateful men who will inevitably bring destruction to this wanna be church. Thats the true problem with the "black church"
How would that go over, making statements like that? The trouble with you people is that you think you can say and act anyway you want and you can get away with it because you're a minority. You hate the white race? Thats not a church just a bunch of hateful racist negros, and they all suck!
Jesus and the Father are not the same. True. But both are God. At least that is the way we use the word "God" now. But I dod not know if Cone is anti-Trinitarian or not. I just found it odd the way he stated waht he did. We use God to refer to God's being. Thus the Father, Son, and HS are all God. The Bible often uses it a little different but sometimes i the saw way. But anyways that is a long discussion.
How does a man who claims to be a theologin say Jesus failed on the cross? It is exactly what he came to accomplish! No man took his life but he gave it freely! He was our propitiation upon the mercy seat and he is our high priest forever making intercession for us. Jesus did not fail on the cross! A man who would make a statement like that obviously did not intend to use the scriptures to back up such a radical statement
Because the cross is folly for those who don't embrace the gospel. Churches that embrace wordly "success" don't want to face the "failure" of taking up the cross to follow Jesus.
That's why he says that "ultimate success comes through failure."
The cross is not folly for those who don't embrace the gospel. Sin is folly for those who don't embrace the gospel. As for the cross all was accomplished that was set out to be accomplished. Christ gave his life for his sheep. And by his blood we have life. That is from the scriptures. Where do you get an answer like that from?
I misspoke. Would you agree that the cross is folly "to" those who don't embrace the gospel? Meaning, For non-Christians, the idea of a crucified God is ridiculous.
godisanegro the cross was an act of completion, not folly. That is why Christ said "It is finished" The cross was intended for those whom God chose to justify. For whom he did forknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son and those he did predestinate he also called and them he called he justified. And Christ is God godisanegro. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God and was made flesh.
Sir this discussion isn't concerning what people perceive the cross to be but actually what Christ accomplished at Calvary. Cone says "The Gospel of Jesus is not a gospel of success The Gospel of Jesus is a gospel of ultimate success through failure" and "The cross is not a gospel of success. Jesus did not succeed. He failed. But God took that failure and transformed that failure into success." This is heretical thinking sir. Jesus came to ACCOMPLISH his father's work, not fail upon the cross.
Sir the very first statement that I made along with ever other since has been about the fallacy that the cross is a gospel of failure. Every comment I have made concerning this video has been in fact concerning this video. What other dialogue is there? What is it that I have written that you would disagree with?
I haven't disagreed with anything that you have written. I asked the same question three different ways, and you refused to answer three different times.
Great. As you're aware, there are even self-professed 'Christians' who deny the cross!
For them, taking up the cross & following Jesus (which leads to suffering) is "failure." ("When success becomes the focus the church loses its mission & message.")
Sin leads us to believe that material success is "ultimate success," but the kingdom of God is not about material success.
I think this is what Cone means by "failure" and "success." Do you think that's a fair read?
Who can take anything this racist says seriously? He discredited himself in my eyes and made himself ineligible to make any comments to be taken seriously. This man is a pure racist. If a church is truly into God, they would never ask someone like him to speak. They would be disciplining him big time and trying to get him to repent and come to God. God is about love, not about color. Is it only blacks who are going to heaven like this so called church apparently believes?
No, black people are not the only one's who'll get into heaven. (Sigh)
Furthermore, you discredited YOURself by calling folks "niggers." You even called me such in a previous message without provocation. You're a broken record with no credibility on discipline, repentance, respect, or love.
BLACKS!!! always pullin tha race card! just like jaimie foxx at bet awards saying michael jackson was one of us and we shared him with the world!
Fuck u all... wanna call racism every chance you get but so proud of your "BLACK churches" bunch of hypocrites if u ask me! Ur all going to ur so called hell! oh yeah since the blacks know everything someone answer this! Where did god come from and how was He created? thanks
they lov mike, they hate him, they love him, they hate him, they lov him they hate him they love him they hate him. he's black no he's white, he's black but went weird because of whites, no he wanted to be white, no he wanted to be black, no he is loved no hated no they blks he is brother, no he is traitor, no bro no wht they lov him they hate him they love him they hate him oh my word the mind of these black americans is an odd thing indeed... it is not healthy!!!!!!
Everybody knows Cone is a racist nigger. His book, "Black Liberation Theology" Every time he opens his big hateful racist mouth it has something to do with "kill whitey" and "the poor black man" in one way or another. Cryin ass racist bitch. People like him make the black community look bad. Intimidating people with that big black mouth.
No, not really. What else would you call this slave minded asshole. He's a slave because he's still trapped in that old played out "For three hundred years the black man, etc..." He make a living bitching about whitey. Matter of fact, the majority of the black in America are still slaves. You voted for Obama, why because he's a black man. Not because he was the better man, because he was black thats why. Slave mentality. Where is the freedom in that? You had to vote for him!
The majority of America (of all colors) voted for Obama. I think he was the better man in the election, but that is really beside the point, though.
To use racist language to condemn someone else for using racist language is just plain silly. You can call him wrong, stupid, misguided, even racist (though I would disagree).
But to call him a "nigger" is itself racist. You lessen yourself in the process.
..(continued) Black Theology will except only the love of God that participates in the destruction of the white enemy.
"What we need is the divine love that is expressed in black power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject His love." - James H. Cone
This is Black Liberation Theology and its hateful belief.
Black Liberation Theology is an extentioin of the Marxist liberation theology that exclusively speaks to a negative Afro American experience.
"Black Theology refuses to except a God who does not identify totally with the goals of the Black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then He is a murderer and we had better kill Him." - James H. Cone
The task of Black Liberation Theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ....(continued)
That was written in the 1960's. A time of overt racism with open violence directed toward black people that is well documented. The goal would be to be free from such violence. Most whites at the time did not openly support the movement to end racist violence toward blacks.
Cone's claim was that God was not indifferent to the violence directed toward black people and that any "god" who was is a murderer and needed to be eradicated.
I don't think the topic is more of is God indifferent as the topic is destroy a white mans/light skinn person images and turn the world black. The agenda is of everything and more that they blacks (many) say they want gone, hate, despise, etc, but they do it and way more... it's hate in close to it's purest form.
That's the thing. The quote above is not a call to destroy "white" skin color and make everything in the world "black." It is a call to end violence directed toward black people in that era. Cone claims that God seeks to eradicate that violence.
I believe there are holes and problem's with Cone's theology. But that core tenet is one that is worth engaging.
Yet, it intrigues me that most people don't want to comment on this particular clip. What do y'all think about his words here?
I'm glad he intrigues you. He intrigues me also. Only we are intrigued in different ways.
I think also thatyouhear his positives, I hear his negatives. Maybe not in this particular vid but in his as a whole. When you hear Black Theology/movement, it is not just about cones, It entails much more like Farrahkans thinking and others. How can it not? It can and does when you regcognize it in black talk, ways, words and actions. It is against all that is white. Yet I agree much is magnified.
I don't knwo why ppl don't coem and make comments. He isn't an enjoyable speaker, not to me, He is so flithy rich I think and he just changes so much liek when he talked about how he wants ppl to think about bklkc being hung/lynched and in place of Jesus or say as Jesus being crucified. Wow!
well, whjo's buying all his books? And yes,. I heard of a new place (forget the name of these places) They are really only for black ppl, they say Jesus is black etc. I heard he is giving the money to have them opened. Possibly donations I am not sure. This is what I heard. How can he not be rich I guess compared to some. He is selling books! I will try to remember these places.. They teach blacks martial arts, have leather wear, sheilds, swords, etc.. ???
Black Thology This man and blacks that listen. They are for the destruction of the white race any means possibly. Right now they are making a mockery of so many ppls religions, faiths and hostory also. this man find a way to tell his own this is a survival thing. You must kill whites to survive. He feeds them what ever they need to hear, he gets his books sold and he gets popular and he gets people to asssit in carrying out his agenda to harm the light skinned ppl. genocide the white race.
James H. Cone, that name alone represents hate. He is the author of Black Theology of Liberation. Liberation Theology comes from central America. It is a Marxist strategy to undermine the legitimate teaching of Catholicism to expand government control. Marxism, gun control, welfare and socialized medicine. This theology produced communist mass murderer Che Guevara. He was portrayed as a Christ type by this liberation propaganda.
I don't usually agree with James Cone, but he pretty much got it right here! The only thing I disagree with him on is that I think it's more about willful humility than "failure". Jesus didn't fail on the cross. He accomplished exactly what He set out to do. Maybe we're just using different sets of semantics, but I think that willful humility and humbleness more closely reflect the orientation of Jesus' heart, rather than failure.
I don't get your question. The raids should stop and gay marriage should be allowed. (Gay Marriage being taught in schools is a stupid point to make. Tolerance should be taught in schools.)
continued...to our day that we might understand how to see the gospel anew and afresh. Jesus didn't go through due process. All of his trials were illegal even by Jewish standards. What Cone is saying is that lynching was used to annihilate blacks in this country and to drive a wedge of fear as a deterrent to success like Jesus, but what Cone calls ultimate success has and is prevailing, but you can't see Jesus in a lynched black man and you couldn't see God in crucified Jesus.
With all due respect, having studied with Dr. Cone, your comment totally misses the "bottom line" that you are trying to get at. And if you ask white students that have worked with Cone, they will tell you the same thing. Please, if you're going to post, at least be informed on what you are saying.
No Im not missing the point. Thats how I decoded his ignorant message. Ive probably completed more studies on this subject then him. MOST, i say again, MOST black churchs somewhat follow this. Black churchs see themselves as Jesus and whites as the enemy of Jesus. Dont play me like Im stupid. When Rev Wright and others say "dont let the devil bring you down" they are refering to whites. Im no fool. Ive done my homework. Your in way over your head with me son.
Well, I just look right through the Bullshit of stuff. Like this while AIG bonus BS. This story is just something to distract people from Democratic corruption and what they are pasing in Congress. Yea, lets focus on AIG's $160+ million while Congress created the entire mess that adds up to more than $1 trillion dollars.
I stay focused and pay attention. His message was to lift blacks, we all know that, but within the message is HATE. For every action there is a reaction. U getting it yet
If the "black churches" mission is different then the Bride of Christ then the black church is not a real church its a whore house full of idolatry and whoredom, but you could say the same about most so-called churches....

Of course not,it was deemed as a safe haven at 1st,so that slaves, could meet in secrecy and plot and plan against the white slave owners,so that we could get to freedom safely. What institution in the black community has contributed more to the betterment of black people than the black church? The church is not perfect by any extent but the church will always be the bedrock of our community because of our African ancestry.
dmoore76 1 year ago
@dmoore76 The NAACP, the ACLU,etc..these are NON-faith based organizations and that have fought for our advancement & benefit. the blk church is the culprit for our current state of being the white man's whore. We (as a ppl)will do ANYTHING for money and as long as the church gets their cut, they encourage this behavior. We didn't even HAVE Christianity in AFRICA at that time. That crap was shoved down our throats by our oppressors. It (religion) was meant to control & divide.

@RedSkullthagreat
So the NAACP and the ACLU have done more for the advancement of black ppl than the black church has? Really. When we had no where to turn to, the church has always been there. It is unfortunate that you feel like the white man's whore. Black folks have always had religion(belief in a higher power).

RedSkullthagreat 2 years ago
So, you're saying people of "faith" have never fought against racism? I think there are more examples of black "believers" fighting against racism than not.
godisanegro 2 years ago
Only to "lead" us in the WRONG way. For example,it was known that MLK was a adulator, but Malcolm X was shunned even though he was faithful to his wife. He actually lead by example more than King. When we get real deal leaders then they get killed, jailed, and all that. So much so,that, one can tell who is for real by how much they get messed with. So ,no I'm not saying that people of faith never fought against racism, just that they never KEPT fighting, till the fight was through, which it was'nt.
RedSkullthagreat 2 years ago
It is only public that King was an adulterer because he was "messed with" by the FBI until his murder. Are you saying that King quit fighting? Malcolm believed in "God" as well. He didn't quit.
godisanegro 2 years ago
King never really started"fighting",he just TALKED us all to death,no real action,"marches and speeches only reach those who already know about them"-Andre'3000, It just speaks to the fact that he was beneficial and detrimental all in the same breath. He a walking pacifier. A permission slip for cowards,to punk out. Malcolm was mislead as well but his intentions, were way more pure. The fact is no black person w/ ANY brains, will believe in a fake GOD.
RedSkullthagreat 2 years ago
Based on your logic, Malcolm had no brains.
That also does not account for why the FBI considered MLK to be such a threat and why there were so many attempts to assassinate him. If he were such a coward, he would not have been targeted the way that he was.
I am curious. Who for you are examples of leaders who didn't "punk out?"
godisanegro 2 years ago 2
On paper, those threats were diversionary tactics to distract attention from MLK's REAL role in the Federal "snitch" program. You must remember that EVERYONE was getting threatened back then. This discussion shouldn't be about black and white but about Theology which should not have a black or white attatchment to it.
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
Why is it only a black church?
miket1m 2 years ago
Cone does not teach theology in my opinion but sociology which he tries to intertwine with theology but fails at every turn. But because he speaks on the behalf of "an oppressed race" blacks are willing to take he word for it instead of actually studying the scriptures. I never hear Cone talk about things like Sovereign Grace or the Abundant Mercy of God or the Atonement for sin or the Intercession with the Father by the Son which are the basic tenants of Christianity
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
Believe me, black people by en large don't even know who James Cone is.
Secondly, all of those themes appear in Cone's works.
When have you heard him speak?
godisanegro 2 years ago
Sir I would agree that there are many black people who do not know who James Cone is but you must agree that the vast majority of those who do listen to him are indeed black. He teaches black liberation theology. Secondly give me some examples because if he does then he contradicts himself over and over from the several interviews and lectures I've heard him give.
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
Actually, there probably are as many white people who listen to Cone. He teaches at a predominately and historically "white" seminary.
Ok, We should probably go offline with this. You know, can't fit the info in these little boxes.
godisanegro 2 years ago
what is your suggestion?
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
There is nothing I can show you to prove that Cone isn't interested in eliminating white people is there?
If you will, look up "Black Church" in wikipedia and find out more about what is meant by the label.
Did you watch the Bill Moyers segment yet?
godisanegro 2 years ago
At least let us use the scriptures to either defend Cone's theory or to debunk it. It does not matter what I or Cone thinks about the cross but rather what Scripture teaches about the cross. Can we not all agree on this. Let the scriptures be my voice in this discussion and not my own opinion. Let our consciences be guided by the Word of God and not by any thing other.
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
That is fair.
godisanegro 2 years ago
So,... I'm white,.... and when I'm in church we don't refer to our church as a "white church" It seems like blacks LOVE to pull the race card. James Cone is a racist. He shouldn't be in a church talking about religion.
nosoundofliberty 2 years ago
Also Jesus Christ did not fail. He failed if you take this world's view of success. But it is clear that Jesus viewed success as doing the will of the Father. His humiliation was part of His success. The Word became flesh so that we could become children of God. Jesus was successful at this though his incarnation, suffering, death, ressurection, and ascension. Without the cross Jesus is not a success. Only with it is Jesus a success. Jesus was a success.
MrBlackhaw 2 years ago
This is Cone's point. Notice he says "Ultimate success."
He's critiquing churches who are so caught up in the world's idea of success that they miss the "ultimate success" that comes through the cross.
godisanegro 2 years ago
That is not what he said. And that is very important. But really it was never failure because it was God's will. He did the will of the Father. It was in God's plan to save us. Jesus chose to lay down his life for us. The romans, jews, and many others perceived it as failure because they did not understand the reality of the situation. Christ did thus he could see the cross as not failure but success. It was humiliation though. And BTW God did die on the cross. That is very Christian.
MrBlackhaw 2 years ago
I would disagree with you that God died on the cross. I don't believe it is possible for "God" to die. I believe Jesus and all of his humanity died on the cross but his seperate devine person did not die because it is impossible for God to die. Would you not agree?
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
Look at John 1:14, then compare that with
John 1:1
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Its very clear that Jesus was God.
miket1m 2 years ago
We are in full agreement on the issue that Jesus is God being one of the three persons of the Godhead
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
You got it right on point. 1 Tim 3:16 and 1 John 5:7&19.
jroc0123 2 years ago
I think Cone would agree: "The Gospel of Jesus is not a gospel of success. It is a Gospel of ultimate success through failure."
The question becomes, what does Cone mean by "failure?" I've stated what I understand him to mean. What do you think he means by "failure?"
godisanegro 2 years ago
Cone is completely wrong about the Gospel of Jesus. The question is where in the scriptures do you ever find the word failure in connection to Christ or the cross?! Cone attempts to say that Jesus was a 1st century lynching and that redemption cannot come without reperations. He foolishly does away with the Sovereign grace and replaces it with a "profound cost" It's like the man never read about men like Paul. Cone is a heretic simply put
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
It is interesting that he said "Jesus failed on the cross but GOD turned that failure into success." This implies that Jesus and God are not one and the same. Maybe that is not waht he meant but that is what it sounds like. It sounds like a rejection of the Trinity. After that he should have been run off the stage for heresy
MrBlackhaw 2 years ago
Jesus prayed to God. That implies that God and Jesus are not one in the same, too. Does the Gospel of Luke reject the Trinity?
godisanegro 2 years ago
The Trinity is in the Bible. It doesn't say Trinity but it explains the Holy Spirit, God and Jesus. Time is a Trinity. You have the past, present and future, yet they are one in the same, time.
miket1m 2 years ago
Great. So if the Gospel of Luke is trinitarian when God prays to God, then why can't Cone's statement be trinitarian when God resurrects God?
godisanegro 2 years ago
What saith the Scriptures when Jesus talked about the ressurection. Did he not say that he would raise the temple (his body) in three days
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
Yes he did.
godisanegro 2 years ago
You don't have a clue do you? Cone is the author of the book, "Black Liberation Theology" Have you ever read this book? This guy is a racist and he doesn't belong in some church. This isn't really a church , this is a black KKK meeting. What would happen if I started a white church, just strictly for whites and I talked about blacks in a negative way? Wonder how that would go over? "If God isn't for the white man and for the elimination of the black race, we had better kill Him."
miket1m 2 years ago
I have read the book. The entire book. Have you?
godisanegro 2 years ago
I have read his book and I could not believe the incredible rationalizations this man has and the hatred he holds deep down in his heart for not only the white race but his country also. Rev.Wright, expresses his belief in black liberation theology with his volatile outburst when he goes into his insane ranting pretending to be preaching. These are spiritually sick and hateful men who will inevitably bring destruction to this wanna be church. Thats the true problem with the "black church"
miket1m 2 years ago
How would that go over, making statements like that? The trouble with you people is that you think you can say and act anyway you want and you can get away with it because you're a minority. You hate the white race? Thats not a church just a bunch of hateful racist negros, and they all suck!
miket1m 2 years ago
You misquoted him a bit, but I get your point.
Did you ever watch that Bill Moyers video I forwarded to you?
godisanegro 2 years ago

miket1m 2 years ago
Jesus and the Father are not the same. True. But both are God. At least that is the way we use the word "God" now. But I dod not know if Cone is anti-Trinitarian or not. I just found it odd the way he stated waht he did. We use God to refer to God's being. Thus the Father, Son, and HS are all God. The Bible often uses it a little different but sometimes i the saw way. But anyways that is a long discussion.
MrBlackhaw 2 years ago
Trouble with Cone is, seriously, he doesn't know the Bible at all. He is far from brilliant. He is a moron. A hateful moron.

TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
Because the cross is folly for those who don't embrace the gospel. Churches that embrace wordly "success" don't want to face the "failure" of taking up the cross to follow Jesus.
That's why he says that "ultimate success comes through failure."
godisanegro 2 years ago
godisanegro
The cross is not folly for those who don't embrace the gospel. Sin is folly for those who don't embrace the gospel. As for the cross all was accomplished that was set out to be accomplished. Christ gave his life for his sheep. And by his blood we have life. That is from the scriptures. Where do you get an answer like that from?
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
I misspoke. Would you agree that the cross is folly "to" those who don't embrace the gospel? Meaning, For non-Christians, the idea of a crucified God is ridiculous.
godisanegro 2 years ago
godisanegro the cross was an act of completion, not folly.
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
Umm. So, is that a "no?"
In your view, is it possible for a person to "perceive" that the cross is folly? I'm not trying to debate who is and isn't justified.
I'm trying to figure out if we can agree that some people (in their own minds) believe that the idea of a crucified God is foolish.
Muslims (for instance) view the idea of the incarnation as heresy and the idea of a crucified God is absurd.
Are you saying that they don't think the cross is folly?
godisanegro 2 years ago
Sir this discussion isn't concerning what people perceive the cross to be but actually what Christ accomplished at Calvary. Cone says "The Gospel of Jesus is not a gospel of success The Gospel of Jesus is a gospel of ultimate success through failure" and "The cross is not a gospel of success. Jesus did not succeed. He failed. But God took that failure and transformed that failure into success." This is heretical thinking sir. Jesus came to ACCOMPLISH his father's work, not fail upon the cross.
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
TheDallasBurns, I see that you are not interested in dialogue. Very well.
godisanegro 2 years ago
Sir the very first statement that I made along with ever other since has been about the fallacy that the cross is a gospel of failure. Every comment I have made concerning this video has been in fact concerning this video. What other dialogue is there? What is it that I have written that you would disagree with?
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
I haven't disagreed with anything that you have written. I asked the same question three different ways, and you refused to answer three different times.
godisanegro 2 years ago
Of course to the unrepentant the crucifixion is foolishness. But that is entirely because of sin
TheDallasBurns 2 years ago
I think this is what Cone means by "failure" and "success." Do you think that's a fair read?
godisanegro 2 years ago
Who can take anything this racist says seriously? He discredited himself in my eyes and made himself ineligible to make any comments to be taken seriously. This man is a pure racist. If a church is truly into God, they would never ask someone like him to speak. They would be disciplining him big time and trying to get him to repent and come to God. God is about love, not about color. Is it only blacks who are going to heaven like this so called church apparently believes?

miket1m 2 years ago
Did you really have to resort to racial slurs?
Using racist language to call someone else a racist is itself a bit hyprocritical, don't you think?
godisanegro 2 years ago
No, not really. What else would you call this slave minded asshole. He's a slave because he's still trapped in that old played out "For three hundred years the black man, etc..." He make a living bitching about whitey. Matter of fact, the majority of the black in America are still slaves. You voted for Obama, why because he's a black man. Not because he was the better man, because he was black thats why. Slave mentality. Where is the freedom in that? You had to vote for him!
miket1m 2 years ago
The majority of America (of all colors) voted for Obama. I think he was the better man in the election, but that is really beside the point, though.
To use racist language to condemn someone else for using racist language is just plain silly. You can call him wrong, stupid, misguided, even racist (though I would disagree).
But to call him a "nigger" is itself racist. You lessen yourself in the process.

No, I meant he has a high pitch to his voice along with his ebonic accents he sounds like a black woman on crack. Not all black women are crackheads.

..(continued) Black Theology will except only the love of God that participates in the destruction of the white enemy.
"What we need is the divine love that is expressed in black power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject His love." - James H. Cone
This is Black Liberation Theology and its hateful belief.
miket1m 2 years ago

Would you claim that God is indifferent?

I gather that would be a "yes."
godisanegro 2 years ago
I don't think the topic is more of is God indifferent as the topic is destroy a white mans/light skinn person images and turn the world black. The agenda is of everything and more that they blacks (many) say they want gone, hate, despise, etc, but they do it and way more... it's hate in close to it's purest form.
ZzzINSIGHTzzZ 2 years ago
That's the thing. The quote above is not a call to destroy "white" skin color and make everything in the world "black." It is a call to end violence directed toward black people in that era. Cone claims that God seeks to eradicate that violence.
I believe there are holes and problem's with Cone's theology. But that core tenet is one that is worth engaging.
Yet, it intrigues me that most people don't want to comment on this particular clip. What do y'all think about his words here?
godisanegro 2 years ago
I'm glad he intrigues you. He intrigues me also. Only we are intrigued in different ways.
I think also thatyouhear his positives, I hear his negatives. Maybe not in this particular vid but in his as a whole. When you hear Black Theology/movement, it is not just about cones, It entails much more like Farrahkans thinking and others. How can it not? It can and does when you regcognize it in black talk, ways, words and actions. It is against all that is white. Yet I agree much is magnified.
ZzzINSIGHTzzZ 2 years ago
What intrigues me is that people won't respond to this clip!
I hear his negatives, but the positive should not be denied, either. I think he made a great point in this clip. That's why I posted it.
I do think black theology has been oversimplified in public perception. Again, I don't agree with all of it, but there are constructive elements.

Wow!
ZzzINSIGHTzzZ 2 years ago
What makes you think he's rich?
Is it really a stretch to correlate the theological significance of ancient and modern forms of capital punishment?
godisanegro 2 years ago
well, whjo's buying all his books?

ZzzINSIGHTzzZ 2 years ago
What have you seen/read that leads you to believe "black theologians" want to destroy the "white race?"
godisanegro 2 years ago
He is the Devil. He has infiltrated the church and has brought hatred into the church not politics. He is no good.
miket1m 2 years ago
Any hate in this speech?
godisanegro 2 years ago
1/2
He was portrayed as a Christ type by this liberation propaganda.

i think this is cone's finest moment! having studied under cone i can tell you that he does have a heart for the black church!
dollkn1 3 years ago
I don't usually agree with James Cone, but he pretty much got it right here! The only thing I disagree with him on is that I think it's more about willful humility than "failure". Jesus didn't fail on the cross. He accomplished exactly what He set out to do. Maybe we're just using different sets of semantics, but I think that willful humility and humbleness more closely reflect the orientation of Jesus' heart, rather than failure.

Barack Obama said he will put an IMMEDIATE STOP to immigration raids and deportations, and supports GAY marriage teaching at schools.
This is going to be CATASTROPHIC !
Vote YES on 8 against gay teachings at schools.
Trrue08 3 years ago
is there supposed to be something wrong with any of that?
fjenkins1 3 years ago
Hell yea!!! What good does it do. How does it effect blacks. What is he asking of blacks? Now how are they going to react? Stop seeing black.
idiotfinder911 2 years ago

Hes also saying for blacks to rise up against whites and American laws. He hates whites more than Hitler hated Jews. Bottom Line.

Idiotfinder911:

Your in way over your head with me son.
idiotfinder911 2 years ago
LOL. Well, friend. You seem determined to stay right where you are, so I'll leave you be.
