  • What an incredibly sarcastic yet poignant, wrecking-ball-to-the-head commentary Garfield has championed here. I am experiencing convulsions! Jim Davis, are we to take it that your cynical feline with a wit worthy of Shakespeare wasn't born yesterday?

  • yes, this illusion that we all must keep up is a tiring task. Garfield struggles everyday to abide by societies rules, this "illusion" as it were and always falls short. It shows how the pressure to read everyday becomes so great we must pretend to do it just to fit in, such powerful messages are conveyed here, i think everyone will agree im not exaggerating when i say jim davis is infact jesus

  • Also what is a "lirbrary"

  • READ AT A LIRBARY

  • I have worked in a lirbary for many years and I fully argee that it is improtant for the people of today to read as much as posisble.

  • and spell

  • And use capitalization and punctuation.

  • Did you use a dictionary to spell those words right?

  • At ease. It's all meant to be a joke, and I'd rather not see it devolve into an angry chain of remarks.

  • Lirbary is my new favorite word. Thank you.

  • (Don't thank me... there's a reason a whole load of comments for this movie spell it like that.)

  • and how

  • 420 FOREVA

  • Dunno, man.

  • No... These guys reenact garfield comic strips.

  • READ AT A LIRBRARY!

  • Haha, this reminds me of that Arthur musical episode with the whole library card number. I guarantee that there is some Get out and Read Garfield PSA out there somewhere

  • I can confirm that there is.

  • Indeed.

  • This video reminded me of that episode of Arthur too!

  • having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card!

  • YES

  • all the laugh tracks are the same!

  • Everyone nose it's smelled "liberry". :-D

  • I've done as the video said. I went out to get a library card and went to a library and read. However, I was rather confused as to what I should be reading. The only thing I had on hand was the card, so I sat down and read it many times over. I left the library after several days feeling disappointed, for I had hoped that reading would be fun.

  • good message read

  • That was actually surprisingly philosophical for a Garfield comic

  • thus should be a commercial for a community library lol

  • ITS FUNNY CAUSE ITS NOT!!!

  • 0:52 a huge typo. You spelled library wrong.

  • NO THAT HOWS IT SMELLED

  • READ AT A LIRBARY

  • It's funny because it's ironic.

  • lol you use the same crowd laughter every time

  • ITS FUNNY BECAUSE ITS TRUE!!!!

  • Was "library" mispelled on purpose?

  • yes, because he's such a genious

  • no its an illusion

  • lulz 420.

  • I love using my library card, except now I've got $20 to pay off till I can use it again - A word of the wise: don't rent dvd's at library!

  • When I saw this video I got a library card and read at a library.

  • its important that we keep up illusions of being weel-informed.

  • The ill-al-usion

  • garfield is reading an alternative weekly

  • 420 SMOKE WEED EVERYDAY

  • Right. ApriI 20th 2007 was a day when "society" got its nose bloodied. 'Twas a day when the proverbial masses finally realized that it's one thing to SEEM well-informed; and another thing entirely to BE well-informed.

  • GO TO A LIRBARY!

  • READ!!!

  • Thanks! I think you're right. My bad... grammar. Allow me to rephrase: Thank you Jim B. Davis, Lasagnacat and of course, the irrepressible Garfield for cutting to the chase, getting down to brass tacks, aiming that nuclear warhead at ground zero and talking turkey within the format of this particular poignant installment of the Garfield comic strip. READING IS INDEED FUNDAMENTAL. Go to the LIRBARY and open up a copy of "People" magazine.

  • Annotated post -

    Read a book nigga!

  • WHOOO 420!

  • hell ya

  • I think I have a new concept of hell...

  • I have a poster in my school library or Garfield standing, legs apart, with a disco finger in the air. The poster says "boogie on down to the library." If I ever started a school shooting, America's favorite fat cat would be the first to go.

  • Jim Davis' magnificently mellifluous malignment of intellectual mediocrity mobilized my mephitic mind into movement most immediately. After witnessing the whimsically wry wit with which Davis wrote such wondrous works of art truly worth our while, I became baffled beyond belief by just how much a benignant bit of biblical brilliance could benefit my befuddled brain.

  • Don't you mean go to the "lirbary"?

  • Thanks! I think you're right. My bad... grammar. Allow me to rephrase: Thank you Jim B. • "Lirbary" is a non-existant word. You had the spelling right the first time. It's "Library", just like how you pronounce it.

  • oh my god. epic win!

  • READ AT A "LIRBARY"! LOL!

  • The joke is that Garfield's pretending to read.

    Am I doing this wrong?

  • The best one.

  • I am definitely going to read a book now.

  • lol awesome PSA :D

  • Perhaps I, too, have the power. Thank you for showing me how to improve my life, Jim Davis.

  • What was Jim Davis trying to say with this? I'm not sure, explanation?

  • Garfield, being a cat, is unable to read, but enjoys pretending to do so. He likes to feel like he is part of the huddled masses of people that are ill-informed. But if you choose to read for real and actually be well-informed, you have the power of knowledge.

  • read a book, read a book, read a mo'fuckin' book!

  • Look the fuck out Nobel Prize!

    Garfield is getting EDUCATED!

  • Read a mo'fuckin' book

  • Society is a nothing but a bunch of ill-informed, ignorant failures and lemmings in the eyes of Jim Davis, which is why he made this comic; to wake up the simpletons to the literary brilliance of true artistic storytelling.

  • READ AT A LIRBARY!

  • Scathing

  • READING IS COOL!

  • ITH GITTIN KANNA HECTIC

  • Garfield is a cat that implies the society is not informed but instead only pretending to be so.

  • if garfield gave me that look every morning i would be a stronger person

  • READ AT A LIRBARY!

  • READING IS COOL!

  • READ!

  • GARFIELD HAS TO READ A NEWSPAPER!(for real)

  • one of my favorite vids from this guy!

  • GET A LIBRARY CARD!

  • Garfield once again provides excellent and enlightened satire of the world's failings.

  • Not all of us can be such well-informed literary geniuses as Jim Davis. He's too beautiful for this world.

  • sometimes the beauty of garfield is so great that you can't find the words, you just have to let the tears come out

  • oh my god

  • jim davis does not like society and their illusions

  • The strip that this mocks is about as cutting edge as anything Davis has done.

  • "READ AT THE LIRBARY!"

    These guys are fucking win.

  • nice psa

  • The close-up of Garfield's face at 00:34 is priceless.

  • O M G

  • 4/20 smoke newspaper everyday

  • 420 yo

  • i liek reding and riting!

  • I'm a librarian and I approve this message.

  • Read at a Lirbary.

  • Reading can take you places that you only dreamed of.

But don't take it from me!

    DOO DOO DOO!

  • READING IS COOL!

  • unlike a certain db

  • how did i know some idiot was going to comment about it being written on "4-20"

"yeah dude, he was hella baked heheh"

    completely missed the joke

  • "In a scathing commentary on society's failings, Garfield mocks the ignorant."

Talk about putting more depth to this than it probably has. :)

  • ever the societal watchdog!

  • man, if this had been a Public Service Announcement back in '92, I'd have grown up way smarter

  • anyone notice "library" is mispelled in the "read at a library" part?

  • Wait, wasn't this an actual ad in the 90's?

  • nice

  • wow, possibly the most political Garfield cartoon I ever saw.

  • garfield was reading the newspaper and cats cant read but he know complicated words..i get it..hahahahahahaha!!!
