  • Chris. Poor sap has now turned to the dark side though.......

    ;)

  • Wow! Small world on the internet. Was Mark your friend or Chris? My name is Brian and I now own this car. Great video, I thought I recognized all the sounds in the video.

  • actually it's a 5.8L 351 winsdor engine....

  • Was this car #86? The road you were traveling looks like you were near Mt Pleasant S.C.

  • Yes, its 86, was owned by a good friend at the time. Those are backroads outside Carolina Motorsports Park

  • Wow some people have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. The engine in this car is a 5.8 with 351 cubic inches. This is the only year ford put a 5.8 under the hood of a fox body stang. Nice car! I'm not sure if I like the 95 r's or the 00 r's better.

  • It's a 5.8 liter 351 cu in motor

  • Try your luck against the new 412 hp 2011 GTs and see what happens.

To the person who posted the video, where can I get one of those multi-pane rearview mirrors?

  • lmfao at all the people who think ford made 350s... all ford people know that its a 351

  • i got a 351 in my truck 86 ford 150 xlt 5.8ltr runs great

  • sorry meant 351 sorry im a chevy man!!!!

  • yes its the only cobra made with a 5.8 350

  • No self-respecting Ford man would ever say a Mustang came with a 350. Thats a Chevy motor. The '95 Cobra R, and every other 5.8 liter Ford for about 30 years, came with a 351.

  • @54vanstang A 4 inch bore and 3.5 inch stroke is a 352, but Ford already had a 352 so they called it 351. Any self respecting Ford man would know that.

  • this is a 5.8 350

  • A 350? Seriously?

  • @edawg305 No numb nuts, a 350 is around 5700 cc`s so its a 5.7, the 351 your mistaking for is around 5800 cc`s, meaning thats its a 5.8!!

  • @edawg305 5.8 is 351L 350 is that crap Chevy tryied to use

  • yeah it also had an impressive 365 lb-ft of torque. the only cars you see nowa days with that sick curve are the ones with 400+ hp

  • the ford 302 is technically 4.95 liters making it a true 4.9 liter V8, however due to how Americans measure it, we round up so its called a 5 liter.

  • not if it is bored .40 over then it is a 306 and then a true five litre. plus who would want to have to say" yeah it a 4-.-9-5 litre. 5.0l is asier to say.

by the way the 1995 Cobra R's are 5.8 351w with a special milled and ported, GT40P head the are slated to make 300 at the crank but the dyno aroun 310rwhp and 315 rw ft/ibs of torque. beastly car that doesn't weigh as much as your normal mustang.

  • Just a clarification, the heads on the 95R are regular gt40 heads, not the "P" head, and they are not ported.

  • 1995 Cobra R was equipped with a 351.

  • The 80 and 81 were a 4.2. If you don't know, don't post. Unless you don't mind looking dumb. And yes, the 95 Cobra R had a 351 with 300 hp.

  • They underrated it at 300hp, like the Camaro. The Cobra R was actually pushing 325+hp.

  • no they definetely 240 you must have a beast man. raced a few and spanked them all bad. you might have a different longblock

  • no they rated them at 300hp

  • The 95 Cobra R had a 5.8L/351 cid crate motor rated at 300 hp and the 2000 R had the modular DOHC 5.4L rated at 385 hp.

FWIW, the 95 Cobras were notoriously underrated in Ford's published hp ratings. This was possibly due to concerns about insurance rates hurting sales, and the fact that all Cobras would sell no matter what the hp ratings were from Ford. The actual dyno numbers were more like 280 hp instead of the 240 released by Ford.

I believe this to be true because I own one.

  • You are completely right. 03-04 Cobras are said to be 390 HP, when in reality, they are about 410 HP. I have an 03 Cobra myself.

  • I would tend to agree..... but then again.... I also have one. :-)

  • the cobra r was a 5.4 liter motor, same motor they use now for the gt-500.

  • Moron.....

  • its true, 00 R anyway. Differences in the cams and the pistons (low comp in the GT500) but otherwise the same motor.

  • Yep, 79-95 was all 5.0s, then the 4.6 came out..

  • It wasnt all 5.0's for high performance mustangs from 79 to 95.

    80/82 V8 Mustangs were only 4.2L V8's. (No 5.0's during these years)

84/86 SVO's were 2.3L Turbo I-4's (Of course by this time the 5.0's were an option again)

    Of course the 95 Cobra-R was a 351 (5.8L) V8.

  • LOL. they were never 4.2s, these were all 302s (4.9L)

  • 302 was a 5.0

  • actually its 4.9L, but the engine is named the "5.0"

  • Actually, it's 4.94L...

  • my 97 Audi A8 4.2 could do that look up the specs

  • the cobra r was a 5.8

  • the 95 mustangs were 5 liters?

  • Hi everyone. I'll have to make some video of my own. I've owned two '95 Cobra R's, still own one (#242 of 250). Tell your friend to check the tranny case for cracks, they are known for that. Mine has a 429 CID aluminum 4-bolt 351 stroker. Just under 600HP and 630 lb-ft of torque and only 2800 lbs it really hauls. Griggs "World Challenge" frame and suspension, 14" Alcon brakes and other goodies. I'll be taking it out this weekend for some fun road racing action in the hills.

    CobraRGuy 8^)

  • I heard these cars ass fuck a Camaro SS (etc.)

  • the 95 cobra r had the 351 motor we all should have had...

  • Thanks for the replies guys (even the clueless ones....lol ). The video is crap quality but the car was sweet, belonged to a friend and I got to beat it on the street and a road course that day. Wish I had one. :)

  • Could get a regular 5.0 Cobra and mod it a bit. Performance would not be far off I would think. Making it beat a Cobra R would not be too difficult as it "only" had 300 hp.

  • I looked it up cause 300hp didn't sound right... specs are:

    -385hp@6250

    -385lb/ft@4250

    -0-60 4.5

    -quarter 12.88@112.7

Over a second quicker than the Cobra.

  • I think you're referring to the 2000 R. The '95 R has 300HP stock and 365 lb-ft of torque.

    CobraRGuy

  • yeah, you are probably right. still 300 dosn't sound too special.

  • 300 doesn't sound too special now. not to mention it was underrated as some ppl have already stated. the 95 r made in excess of 300 at the wheels and far more than that in torque...plus it's light. so at that time and for the purpose it was built for it was quite a runner, still is really. it would beat a lot of the muscle cars that are out today. like the overweight challenger and camaro ss. even though they are rated at far more hp....they're heavy & in the corners it'd be no match...

  • I like how you say 300hp isnt much lol man mustang gts just now got up to 315hp witch is sad and i beat the new mustang cant even outrun this car sad.

  • The '95 R was designed specifically for endurance road racing in IMSA GS where it was very sucessful. These are not drag racers. Also keep in mind that torque is important on the street as well as weight. The '95 R was pretty light too.

    CobraRGuy

  • yeah, next Mr. darkblaze is gonna be telling us that the 2000 R had a 4.6L Mod. lmao

  • Oh, one more thing. The 2000 Cobra R was for ONLY 2000.

  • sorry to break it to ya guys but the REAL cobra r didnt come out till 2000 and ended in 04 this is not a cobra r

  • Go to Google and type in "1995 COBRA R". There was also a very limited 1993 Cobra R. This car is a gutted 1995 cobra with a 5.8 Windsor and 300hp made for racing. Hence the Cobra R nomenclature.

  • There is a 1993 Cobra R, 1995 Cobra R, and a 2000 Cobra R. No more, No less.

  • 1995 was the second cobra R produced 250 of them, all of them were white.

  • Sweet dude!! You should make some more videos of your car. This is the only 95 Cobra R video on youtube.

  • OMG, is that what I think it is? A 5-7 louvered rearview mirror? Sweet, reminds me of back in the late 80's-early 90's :)
