  • Hey Steve, thanks for all this, you guys must have one of (if not the last transfer station set up this way brings back alot of childhood memories.

  • Can't seem to think of anywhere that uses grapple systems here in Oz... back in the days yer, but not anymore? Nice vid!

  • Another 5-star favorite!

Does that pit ever get completely emptied?

  • No it doesn't. It's 45 feet deep. I've never seen it have less the 10 feet of trash in it.Thanks again for the complement.

  • Hmmm, I always wondered about that. We have a big sorting plant not too far from here with a similar pit and that place stinks pretty bad. I always figured it was becuase of that last 5 feet of trash on the bottom that has been sitting there for years. Bet it would get pretty rancid around there if they were to dig it out now!

  • what kind of place are you talking bout

  • It's a waste sorting and transfer facility. They have large belts that transfer the waste past a bunch of people who make sure all the recyclables are out before letting it go to the packer and into the transfer trailer. Its a ways from where I live but Ive been there a few times. They got a huge pit but they wont allow video, they say that their operation is of proprietary design. I think they are just strange but since it is their facility, I guess they get to make rules like this...

  • ...the place is massive and run 24-7 to accept all the waste on Orange County or at least 90% of it!

That pit gets pretty full by Friday night but since the weekends are quite a bit slower because of no residential waste, they get it about 75% dug out by Monday morning, only to do it all over again!

I understand that they have one of the largest pits around!

Sure wish I could get video of it...:(

  • Is the waste transfer facility owned by Rainbow disposal

  • No, they do have a facility in Huntington Beach but not nearly as large as CVT, the facility with the giant pit that I mentioned above. Rainbow handles Huntington Beach & Fountain Valley only while CVT handles most of the rest of Orange County with the exception of a few city's but even some of them dump at CVT...

  • thnx
