It's clear to me that either A.) everyone on here is right about the media blowing things out of proportion. B.) Everyone who said it was "a passenger safety issue" knows virtually nothing about the world of aviation and ATC communication. or option C.) Both A and B.
This really wasn't an issue. As far as the FAA goes, maybe they had a right to investigate. But really there was no threat.
They are WAY to anal about this. At least the dad didn't tell the son to say something different. God, they're stupid for freaking out over this. The Pilot's like this because they are sick of hearing the same old voice. Delta 156 heavy cleared to landing on RWY 24R, follow a 747 that's on final in fornt of you. If a kid said that, I would like that to. Screw everyone that is against this.
He never let him do his job. Plus the guy on the left is stupid. Neither was the little kid he was just waving like your god son. Only verbally "contact departure adios" He was certainly not even close to calling the shots dip shit! And lady its called a tower not a cockpit stupid! Also usually it is pilot error that causes accidents or near misses and then they blame it on the controller cause he was supposed to watch them. Three words for you shit heads get over it!!!!
3:01 Well now we've gotten to the bottom of why these reporters are actually upset... they wanted to get in there and they couldn't but some kid who doesn't even have his own SHOW got to go in there! The nerve!!! Don't these tower people know who we are?!?
By the way, the thing I like the best about this story is that the people who are the most upset by it also know the LEAST about aviation. That should tell you something...
who do you think you are spelling in this tone ''I CAN'T GET IN THERE''.because you are a reporter?you know what:its not your fault, its ours who dont kick your gay ass.you are destroying the world every day
Look! True, the dad should not let the child get on the radio to begin with, however, everything was still under control because the traffic controller was right there with the kid watching everything, but still, I don't see a need to fire the controller, but some disciplinary action should be taken to prevent this from happening again. People are making a big thing out of this, mostly out of the belief that the kid acted alone. Dad needs to be punished, maybe 1 week suspension, not fired.
Dude non professional controllers work on frequency everyday, its called ON THE JOB TRAINING now I know its not completely the same thing but really not that different.
you guys have to understand he was there when aeromexico read back to contact departure the controller was right there with them so if it was unclear he would of corrected it people need to calm down as a pilot I don't find this a big deal
these people are idiots. guy on the right...of course you dont have access to the tower. you have no business being up there cause your media and everybody knows that you people do. im a controller and have never allowed media into the tower when im on postion. if my son wants to come up to the tower by all means he is coming up because i have the authority to do that. this is typical american media these days...blowing things way out of proportion. get a damn life already.
@bubu101502 For real! I go into my local tower all the time. I call and they ask when so they can be prepared and staffed so they can answer questions and what not. Go ATCTs
This is not a big deal...I'm an Air traffic controller and you should see some of the tools we get up there for training, and have to wash out. I'd rather have this kid than some of the people we train. Seriously though there are overide capabilities for the father there really was no danger there.
Everyone feels their opinions on an issue are valid. The BIG problem with that is most people don't know SHIT about the subject but they feel their "intuition" is sufficient to decide a professional's fate. The ignorance spread is more distracting and harmful than anything else and these news commentators are the biggest culprits (CNN using twitter? WTF!?!).
Just because the subject (Air Traffic) is serious doesn't mean the action was dangerous.
I definitely hate all news outlets. So blown out of proportion, just for the ratings..now the whole country (and world) knows about this innocent based on what the MEDIA, I say again MEDIA has to say. Don't even fucking get me started. This kid was simply repeating instructions given to him directly by his father. You can clearly HEAR THIS!!! God damn you all. Now this father has no job, and his son will now be scared for life. Why? Because the news wants ratings.
Now a days you can't break wind without some terror monger (and Fox so-called news) relating it to 9-11? What did/do these kids and their poor dad have to do with 9/11?
@x080903 Let me explain (because it is pretty basic). That father was violating air traffic contoller protocol by having his children relay messages for him (totally unprofessional). This sloppy act, if unchecked, will only beget more sloppy acts. And eventually we will get caught with our pants down like we did on 9-11.
this stupid dude on the right is getting on my nerves..they all were reading off a damn piece a paper. The kid wasnt calling no damn shots. Half the stuff the kid was saying none of us understood and im sure the kid didnt understand. He was repeating exactly his what his dad was saying. Is it because it was a child? And if they sent any of us up there, child or not, to REPEAT what to flight controller was saying, would we make a huge deal out of this? NOPE and thats guaranteed.
if this scares them, maybe they should know that we mess with pilots and screw around all the time because to be one of us you have to be perfect. so i think we should be allotted a little leeway...
@Coein1 I work at a towered airport and this whole issue... isn't an issue. had this happened in the 80's no one would care and they would all think its cute. Now everyone is up tight and over protective. Remeber the creed that the FAA lives by "Were not happy unless your not happy" So typical that they look for something to criticise in one of the safest if not THEE SAFEST MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
This is dumb. No one was in danger and the kids weren't running the show. The kids just repeated what the father told them to say. Now if the kids first time seeing dad work then that's fine but if they're outta school the dad should've gotta babysitter instead of bringing them to work. Suspend the controller for a week but don't fire him. Then make a rule that no unauthorized people in the tower. Done end of story move on!
For .... sake! If that doesn't frighten you shitless at the prospect of flying into NY airspace nothing will. What happened to bringing kids up "being seen and not heard" - you actually learn a lot that way! What a wanker of an Air Traffic Controller Daddy!
FAA should hire those kids. They sound much more coherent and understandable than a lot of their "professional" controllers in NY area. Specially the guy that mans ISP ground/twr/appch once in a while. You know who you are! Take stuff out of your mouth and annunciate when you talk on the radio!
@x080903 I work at a towered airport I second that !!! They bullshit on the tower frequency to the point where those kids looked like pro's Plus you notice the pilots didn't give a shit. As long as it VFR conditions its not busy and the kids supervised.... Who cares.... Notice that the FAA is the only ones crying about it.... So typical
