  • Your new task is flight of the bumblebee

  • Watch out for the wall with that thing

  • i love watching people play the sousaphone but i have not seen anyone as good as you

  • absolutely epic!

  • That takes some serious balls to do Glenn Miller on a Sousaphone. Well done!

  • lawl XD

  • i personally prefer this on trombone

  • You go homeboy!

  • Why do peeps hate the sousaphone? If the guy can play, its not so bad. Hell he can make $60 bucks just following fat people around.

  • I cannot stop staring at you rock that Sousaphone... I swear to God.

  • i want to learn sous. is it difficult?

  • you. are. my. hero! :)

  • Sehr gut, super Rythmus

  • Sehr gut, super Rythmus

  • I never get bored of this :)

  • Nice job

  • you must get all the girls

  • @DavidMenear it is i play sousaphone and it's not a chick magnet...IT'S A CHICK SATELLITE!!! :D

  • Your neighbor better not complain cause that sounds good, you're doing your neighbors a favor by playing good music for them .

  • yehaaa man :D wonderful you are very good.... I also played the same theme in my sousa yours but a little different:) Watch it on my channel

  • TUBA POWERR...

we're playin this in marching band this year. had to say it.

  • Get a better camera but you sound awesome!!!!

  • Nice Besson sousaphone, do you know the model?

  • how long did you practice this?

  • That was extremely amazing! Great Job!

  • look at that version /watch?v=zq0WeNYi1W0 :) is very good!

  • SOUSAPHONE!!! You're grandfather played sousaphone!!! He used to make us practice for hours with this band of token musicians!!! And he was always playing his horrible sousaphone!!!

  • hey man is really good :) im play sousaphone toooo :)

  • "A" for enthusiasm, though something less for technique, clarity, rhythm and timbre. Hitting the low notes at the beginnings of all those cycles is critical for this piece.

    Fun, though!

  • most cam corders have no capabilities of picking up the sound of a tuba (or sousa) without it sounding crappy unless you're playing over fifty yards away. tubas are impossible to mic. i've tried playiing as quiet as possible but it still goes way over the cap on the built in mic on my computer

  • He's REALLY good at the Souaphone, it's just the camera making it sound like crap.

  • a sousaphone is a version of a tuba meant for marching

  • @TheTubaEmporer Actually the sousaphone is merely a recording bell helicon. It was originally designed (the helicon) for cavalry use, one hand to play the instrument and the other to hold the reigns of the horse. In fact the marching form of the tuba is actually an Over-The-Shoulder instrument used back in the Civil War era, it had closer ties IIRC to saxhorns. The sousaphone was originally designed as a concert instrument, as it weighed often more than 40 pounds, sometimes up to 75.

  • im a 12 year old souzaphone player

  • Awesome! Sousaphones are the best!!!!!

  • @AaronTheReginald sousaphone means Chinese saxaphone :)))

  • um, guys, a sousaphone is a tuba.

  • no, you are retarded

  • @tubamanKevinU8 If you go by this logic then all tubas are really natural horns.

  • just sounds like one big blat to me...i can play better than this...

  • oh sweet i can watch it in HD

  • you can never go wrong with a sousaphone

  • i love glen miller !!!

  • fake it away baby...

  • some of these notes are wrong

  • one of the greatest jazz songs. made even better by the sousaphone.

  • I love his sideburns. His sousa playing is kinda cool too.

  • very nice...some people dont realize how much of a bitch it is to play that on the tuba...jumping notes like that can be very challenging and its something that takes awhile to master....nicely done

  • its not a tuba

  • What's the point of a comment like that? For all intents and purposes, almost all comments about playing a tuba can be generalised to also apply to a sousaphone.

  • u fucin repeated...

  • Too awesome for words. :o

  • epic

  • Very nice. It's hard to find a melody part for tuba with this song.

  • its not a tuba its a sousaphone

  • yeah fuck nuts get it right

  • @lukie117 well to be technical, it's actually a recording bell sousaphone. And really really technical a recording bell helicon.

  • Rock it baby!!

  • This guy knows his horn. That's what I'm talking about.

  • You look like your struggling to play that!!!

  • Super big sound Schöne Grüsse from Germany

  • Also glad to not be your neighbor.

  • you fail

  • hey he tried his best

  • @DrumerMan6 hey respect a fellow tuba player, at least he has guts to put this video on youtube

  • @DrumerMan6

You're better than him? Set up a video and prove you are. Oh wait, you're too young to have a YouTube account.

  • @DrumerMan6 me to lol im 12 head tuba and sousaphone player at retna middle school

  • this sounds like crap

  • Yeah, turn down that gain!

  • i just started playing sousaphone, and i wish you could teach me that! sounds good!

  • That was seriously awesome! I play the trombone, baritone and tuba but i am kinda inclined to play the sousaphone cause my last name is sousa:)

  • HAH! I can stalk you now that I know you're last name!

How many Sousa's can there be in the world?...

  • You rock man!

  • awsome!!!i love u!!!!i play tuba also!!!oh my god your good,you rock!!!i love that song your playing!!!!!!!!aaahhhhhhhhhh!!

  • Wow man, that was so awesome. If only out tuba/sousaphones could rock like that. Only comment is that maybe the camera was a little to close, those buzzy things were kinda irritating.

  • Thanks, indeed the camera I used is crap. I am saving money to get a newone

  • Heey

  • It's Heavy Metal according to pat sheridan

  • haha

  • This sounds so good

  • YOU ROCK PUTO

  • sound better on tuba trust me jazz tuba

  • Excellent!

  • Well thanks but if you listen good there are so many mistakes (wrong fingering etc), everytime I listen I hear more ha ha

  • That looks like a rather small sousaphone! Wonderful sound though. I'd love to play this music...or attempt it at least.

  • Mein Gott!

Haha. You make me wanna start learning the sousaphone!

  • lol i love doing that too.. i play trumpet in jazz band and play my music on my tuba wen i get bored :P

  • Wow :) I've Only Ever Heard This On Trumpet (me) And Trombones... Sousaphones Rock! I Want One :)

  • oh, this is just fantastic! thank heavens for youtube!

  • And thank God for inventing the sousaphone ha ha

  • seriously!

  • God Philip Sousa :)

  • Teehee. xD

Our Jazz Band plays this song.

I don't know if it's common or anything. I myself plays the Flute.

    But it sounds very awesome.

    - In my opinion. -

  • Thats nice. You have a movie when you play it ?

  • Well I haven't played it yet. lol.

But mabye I can record our Jazz Band playing it.

  • thetubaplayer1 is a retard (not the guy in the video) the stupid comment. and usually marching band tubas suck ass and i think ur part of that other than that the guy in the video is kick ass i mean where can u find a tuba playing some 60's jazz?

  • Great job patrick you did great. I wish i could play like that

  • Thanks, well just close your eyes, think of a song you like, try to play it and have fun ! You play sousaphone yourself ?

  • hey this is.... I don't know how to say it.... it's so horrible... you play well that's not the best one.. I play from a marching band and it is so pactetic as you did... sorry..

  • Thanks for your comment, could you please explain what is so horrible and pactetic ? This could be for example :

    * The stupid movements I make which do not go synchrone with what you hear

    * The unclean notes I get from my sousaphone

    * The wrong fingering on several notes

Or do you mean something else ?

  • this was really awesome...is there anyway i could get the sheet music

  • Thanks. Sorry but I don't play from paper, just close your eyes and try

  • you can find it for alto sax then just tranpose it because alto is in Eb if u read it as bass cleff and fix the octaves for the most part you have it

  • is it a B or Es tuba?

  • It is a Bes tuba, could be you name it B in germany ? This specific one is a Besson, now I'm playing a Conn also Bes.

  • Its just B in Germany

    lol

  • dude ur awesome but u look like ur constipated the whole time =]

    just relax!

  • dude

    you suck

im a freshman and im 100 times better than you

  • Thanks for your positive reaction, I'm waiting to see your video

  • haha awesome! I want to bust this out on my tuba now!

  • Thanks. I'm waiting for your movie hope you have just as much fun as I had when making this one

    Patrick

  • i love the sousaphone hehe they make me giggle we had a girl in our band who is like 5 foot and she played sousaphone and every time it got windy she blew away lol not really but she had to brace herself

  • well disregarding 44mag2001's comment good job

  • dumbass

  • sousaphone? looks like big tuba

  • Haha!! Nicee joke!! WAIT, U WERE SERIOUS!!! OMG! Thats SO freakin funny!

  • its a marchinng tuba

  • OMG! i play trumpet in my high school band! Im starting tuba monday! I Cant Wait!

  • Congratulations. I will probably be buying a second sousaphone today. A conn from 1964. Did you ever play tuba before ?

  • I've played on one, but didn't really know what i was doing. But then our other tuba,Schyler, showed me the whole thing about tuba fingerings just bieng a whole step up from trumpet. So now i somewhat know what im doing. Ive been experimenting with multiphonics alot! I have always loved tuba.

  • Requires a lot of wind, you'll be more at ease playing trumpet [breathing-wise] after playing tuba for a while.

  • Your right ive noticed that too.

  • Awesome man. Its good to see that your having fun with it!

  • A joyful experience. You looked like you were really having fun playing. That's what music is supposed to be about. Thanks very much for posting this selection.

  • Thanks, indeed I love to play. Well a man must have a hobby.

  • is your camera slow? because it doesn't match your fingering?

  • I don't know why the sound and video is not synchrone. When I play it on my computer, it;s ok but when I watch it from youtube its not. So I think it has something to do with youtube, you see it on several videos.

  • That was played fairly good,i think its pretty awsome to play it on tuba, im trying to learn it on piano, it seemed a little scratchy but that may of been the way it was recorded, keep up the good work

  • Sousaphones are amazing.

That's all there is to say.

  • Very talented sousaphone player.

  • i like it but open up ur mouth a little bit more it will make ur sound a little bit deeper. btw what kind of mouth piece are u playing on in ur other movies it looks like a conn-helberg or maybe a yamaha? if its a yamaha i suggest getting a new mouthpiece hellbergs are ok but i recommend bach or perantucci. Overall I think u have a pretty good sound use maybe a little more air. Also try to not puff ur cheeks as much i know thats hard to do but work on it, it will make u send better

  • *sound not send

  • The sound is pretty much distorted by camera. I have Dennis Wick 1 XL mouthpiece. It's the best mouthpiece I tried and it was advised in a 'mouthpiece doctor'. My lung capacity is 9+ liters so that should be enough. Indeed I sometimes don't use the complete capacity and do much short breathings between 2 notes. You can't do circular breathing without puffing your cheeks (well, you can do it but it's much more difficult).

  • lung capacity doesnt always mean ur using enough air. when u puff ur cheeks u get a bad sound or at least in my experiences all the teachers and lessons i have had said to not to puff ur cheeks ever. Also Dennis Wick mouthpieces used one once i didnt like it the cup was very short on it if i remember correctly gave more of a bright sound.

  • I tried it this week when playing and indeed when opening the mouth more (lowering the lower jar) there came a better bass sound. Thanks very much.

  • ur welcome its such a simple thing that some people never think about. anyway keep uploading vids i enjoy them very much

  • i puff my cheeks and i'm still able to get a good sound

  • me too...

  • what's your bands name? play reggae? you look quite like a trad. skinhead ;-)

  • This song sounds best on sousaphone. Great job. I wish I was your neighbor, then you could solo over another bass line.

  • Ha ha my neighbours wish they would not be my neighbours - maybe you could swap ?

  • thats good.. but yeah... i can really just see.. i guess more so a sax playing it.... anyways.. TUBAS ROCK!!!

  • lol nice job it's pretty hard playing that on a sousaphone try going for a cleaner tone and sounds kinda distorted on the camera but thats pretty good job that yo can play it since it's a sax thing

  • Thanks for the reply ? I have one question : What do you mean by a 'sax' thing ? Any comments are welcome.

  • oo lol what i mean is the song is a sax feature meaing kinda like a sax soli

  • He's right; that song is a saxophone thing. But it's nice that you can play it. I've always wanted to try.

  • My sousaphone is a Besson. It plays much better than my first sousaphone. Has larger tube diameter which provides a much better bass.

  • Ur sousa has a nice sound, mine sucks, i prefer the tuba ^.^

  • Cool!!!

  • You're so ugly playing the sousa... :O

  • Thanks for the comment. Do you mean me being an ugly guy playing a sousa or do you mean technical ?

I can imagine comments like take more care on the fingers, get a better rythm-feeling or something like that. I know there are several notes in there not played with the correct fingers. Could also be because this was about the 4th time I played this number yet. But if you mean other comments please be more detailed, I would love to get tips on how to improve the playing

  • Don't take that too serious. Your dance is kinda... odd. Actually, you do play very well.

    Remember: I ain't a pro player. So don't care what I write. =D

    Carry on, man
