Cultural Moment: In Italy the dance the tarantella was developed to counteract the venom of the tarantulla. Once bitten by a poisonous tarantula it was believed that you had to dance the tarantella until you couldn't dance any more to save yourself from the venom. (Or so the story goes.)

The legs are pretty good, but the abdomen makes me want to wretch. I actually own a tarantula myself, so I think I'll order another crispy T and frame it's leg on my wall as a constant reminder to my pet T what I can do to her if she bites me.
Also, my family (except me) was born in Viet Nam and my mom said the people eat spiders there! But my mom didn't eats spiders like the other people though

i was talking to a friend this weekend while out camping, about whne his dad went south america and tried guinea pig and tarantula. he said the fresh fried tarantula tasted like french fries, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside like potato.
he really loved the guinea pig, very sweet tender white meat.
I ordered a tarantula as well as a few other insects that you've already tried from that same place. I thought they all kinda tasted like burnt popcorn? I think the freshly fried ones might taste a bit more like lobster. If I find one I'll let you know!
I would never be able to pick up a tarantula EVER. I can't even pick up one of those tiny spiders that never bite you. My dog is far braver than I, she eats them with enjoyment. *Shivers*

That's some fairly serious snow you have there. We had a shedload back in December but it's now 50 degrees outside so hopefully we won't get any more. I used to love the snow - I still do in some ways, but now I'm older I get annoyed at how the entire country grinds to a halt as soon as the first couple of flakes fall. Don't know if Michigan is as bad?
@imbethondion yes it is the same thing my dad drives us to school every day and when the cars slow down to nothing he gets so mad! but by now there is tons of snow every where mountains in every parking lot.

Even though I wouldn't want to try one even if it were fresh, I bet there's a big difference between getting a freshly cooked one in Cambodia- or wherever- and one that's been packaged. It would be like they could find a way to package a nice hamburger or such but it just wouldn't taste as good as one freshly made!
I hope one day you'll be able to afford to travel around the world to try stuff fresh!
@FoodOddities Yeah, it's like how when you're camping, a freshly caught trout, cooked over a campfire tastes a whole lot better than an if the trout had been caught, cooked and sealed in a package and eaten a month later. The documentary I saw had the guy in the middle of the Amazon, eating a freshly caught and roasted tarantula- off course, he might have also been really hungry at the time, which makes anything taste at least a little better!
i dont think people started to eat tarantulas during the Cambodian holocaust. Think about it. to eat one of these suckers. you will have to cook them (since they contain harmful parasites and hairs that can cause inflammation to the trough) these people were constantly working in rice patty's (almost 24/7) so its impossible to make fire in a wet environment. plus if one of the pol pot followers saw you making a fire, you'll end up with a plastic bag over your head. nice video tho.
if and when the world comes to an end Remy you will know how to survive because you have eaten almost anything on the planet you are a true survivor.

@lelib2007 thank you!i will tell you some thing secret i t is maybe easier to be brave on camera because when the camera shut off i can say yuk and gross!! i hated to touch the giant spider but it was the crazies thing i ever tried and it was very exciting:)

Aww, I was hoping to see you eat the abdomen, with all the guts an' stuff. Still, three tarantula legs is three more than I've ever eaten!
That's some fairly serious snow you have there. We had a shedload back in December but it's now 50 degrees outside so hopefully we won't get any more. I used to love the snow - I still do in some ways, but now I'm older I get annoyed at how the entire country grinds to a halt as soon as the first couple of flakes fall. Don't know if Michigan is as bad?

@imbethondion yes it is the same thing my dad drives us to school every day and when the cars slow down to nothing he gets so mad! but by now there is tons of snow every where mountains in every parking lot.

LOL! Loved the screams as the tarantula crawled around!
Even though I wouldn't want to try one even if it were fresh, I bet there's a big difference between getting a freshly cooked one in Cambodia- or wherever- and one that's been packaged. It would be like they could find a way to package a nice hamburger or such but it just wouldn't taste as good as one freshly made!
I hope one day you'll be able to afford to travel around the world to try stuff fresh!

@FoodOddities Yeah, it's like how when you're camping, a freshly caught trout, cooked over a campfire tastes a whole lot better than an if the trout had been caught, cooked and sealed in a package and eaten a month later. The documentary I saw had the guy in the middle of the Amazon, eating a freshly caught and roasted tarantula- off course, he might have also been really hungry at the time, which makes anything taste at least a little better!

i dont think people started to eat tarantulas during the Cambodian holocaust. Think about it. to eat one of these suckers. you will have to cook them (since they contain harmful parasites and hairs that can cause inflammation to the trough) these people were constantly working in rice patty's (almost 24/7) so its impossible to make fire in a wet environment. plus if one of the pol pot followers saw you making a fire, you'll end up with a plastic bag over your head. nice video tho.
