One of the greatest games I've never played - despite the flaws like the unbalanced difficulty and some lock up problems in the PC version -, and possibly the best game intro I've ever seen. I pretend to beat this game and maybe make a "Let's Play
Oh, how I hope the first part of the intro comes true. PEACE IN THE WORLD! ^_^
Can you please tell me what sound settings and dosbox config settings did you use? I'm having a lot of stuttering and noise, and only the no sound setting helps my ear drums from imploding.
As I said in the video description - this game is buggy as hell, but I got the sound working great by using the dosbox default config and choosing GUS in setup.exe .
But sometimes DOSBox's CPU settings are more important... I use dynamic Core and *exactly* 15000 Cycles. I found it to be the best possible config.
By the way, the next version of DOSBox is due this month... Maybe it'll be more forgiving running this game...
Tried GUS, but it has the same effect as no sound. It probably has something to do with ultradir=C:\ULTRASND Since I don't have any patch files installed. I'll probably have to google some prebuilt patch files. Thanks.
No, there's no need for patch files and it has nothing to do with the ultrasnd directory, trust me on this.
I wish could help you here but this isn't the right place... Post a message in the DOSBox forum or in the Abandonia forum (if you don't own the original) and I'm sure they'll help you there.
@Ogmasa I could only get the digitized sounds working by choosing Gravis Ultrasound and setting it to 220 1 5. Anything else and I either got no digitized sounds, or very scratchy barely audible sounds. I have a Realtek onboard hi-def card if this and all the above helps anyone
Oh and two more points: 1) You can see where Homeworld got it's intro idea from - those black and white drawings! (Although there's was animated to some degree!)
2) Somehow when an American voice is used, i think 'American', but when a European accented voice is used, I think 'the planet' - so this voiceover works well for me! :)
This was the greatest intro I've ever seen in a video game. Haunting and wickedly captivating.

Cool. Great that you uploaded this, i could never get dos-box to record the intro properly.
This was such an excellent game. It was made by true artists i think.

I today's gaming, by the way, this would be the whole story for the game and say "The End" at the end and that would be your $60 gone!
Also, if you like this, I recommend Alien Legacy, Protostar War at the Frontier, Star Control 2/Ur-Quan Masters and Starflight! :)
