  • She'll be unemployed now no doubt. Not much use for Harrier WAFUs anymore. Government redundancies for you!

  • i want to be a weapons engineer but i was wondering i live in scotland and if u have to go to plymouth thats a bitch cause iv got to go to glasgow get train to london then another to plymouth so i was wondering do u need to go to plymouth for training or is there somewere in scotland also it would be nice to see london and plymouth but im just saying hell of a journey

  • @forget1me14 'fraid not. You will enjoy the hospitality at Raleigh for your basic and that means Plymouth. Enjoy the journey and don't worry........till you reach the Torpoint ferry, where the Joss man waiteth. You will then meet your new mother to begin one of the finest careers on earth (or sea). Best of luck. It's hard work for a while but woth it.

  • Im also waiting to go in as one of these :)

  • Disappointing that the waiting time is so long now

  • AET top 10% of the Royal Navy. Harrier AET top 10% of the Fleet Air Arm.

  • i have just been accepted to do the training to become an aircraft engineer but theres like a 6mnth to a year waiting list just to go and do ur training at raleigh.

  • i was told by a friend that its at 24 months is this true do u know, have you been told yet?

  • I passed my final selection interview the end of October and they told me it was 9 months, I actually applied for WSO , then they told me I had scored high enough for AET, so I opted for the change, acquaint course coming up in a couple of weeks.

  • did you know the kid in the frosties add just killed himself

  • i want to be an aircraft engineering technician i love mechanics and planes lol alot of my family were in the navy in the subsmarines but i want to work on an aircraft carrier and explore the world i just hope i can pass the test.

  • kick the tyres and lash the cabs,

your handlers bitches and always will be

    who are the "real chockheads"?

  • um, your mother?

  • i want to join the navy when i leave school, i've got one more year left and i can't wait lol

can anyone tell me what the training is like, you know, what sort of things you do?

i know i have to do that 2.4 km run before my application form can be accepted and i've just started to work on my fitness, i've got a year to get up to shape so if anyone could just tell me what it's like in training i would be grateful.

    cheers =)

  • Training at HMS Raleigh is GOOD fun yet VERY demanding. You dont need to be super fit to pass basic training, because lets face it not many people are and Raleigh is there to GET YOU inshape. Just remember its all a game and you will be fine!

  • Hey guys can anyone give me any greater information.. Im looking to join as an AET... And i really cant wait to start the whole process. Im wondering though am i going to be smart enough, i didnt do highers in maths or that, i did standard grades gcse's and got level 3 General... Will that bout enough... And if you do get accepted are you on a ship or you on land most of the time . ?? Please get back to me.. Im going next month hopefull for my interviews n so on.. :D x

  • Heya...you don't need any specific qualifications to go in as an AET, but an aptitude for mechanical systems and general engineering would give you a good start...you will have two tests to take during the selection process and an interview, these will help to deem whether you have what it takes...as for being based on land or at sea, it all depends on what aircraft you work on and where the Naval Air Squadron is based, I would say half and half, you'll still get alot of travel though. Good Luck

  • HEYA? fucking dyke

  • dyke

  • hey ITCFDAN. U might know my now ex girlfriend. Her name is Laura Brimson. She's based at RNAS Yeovilton with Chantelle (the girl in this ad) as an AET with 847 squadron. She spent some time at Culdrose :) She's currently doing a tour on a ship at the mo. Can't remember which one but it doesn't carry too many Lynx's. Hopefully she'll be a senior rate this year :)

  • doesnt carry to many lynxs well aw gee i get it must smell alot.

  • hey im realy realy intrested in joining the navy as a air Engineering Technician but iam worried about knowing about stuff i mean Do u have to know about aircraft engines before you join or do they teach u everything you need to know when your in there

  • When you complete your test before joinin, your score has to be above a certain level to become 1. I'm joinin on 22nd feb so if you need to know about anything just message me :)

  • do u know if I apply now to become an officer would i start training in september? cos the guy at recruitment said officer applications take 6 months, but I don't think he knew what he was on about

  • life in a bluesuit point net will give some ideas.

  • m8 they will teach you everything there.

  • Im currently serving as an AET at RNAS Culdrose. Before you join you don't need to know a great deal, they will teach you this at Sultan and further training happens at your chosen Air Station. All this said an interest in aviation is a plus as Sultan sometimes drags you down with exams nearly every week! Good luck guys and girls, its the best job in the fleet, beleive me!!

  • I applied and hve been accepted as an AET, just waiting for my start date to come through, my bro was at Sultan on the stokers course, so he couldn't say a lot about what you guys did there(learning wise) would be nice if you could give me a little bit of insight please? It did sound the most interesting of all the jobs they offered me, they almost took me as a dabber but I scored well enough, phew!! Cheers.

  • Mate they will teach you everything you need to know. Just turn up with the right attitude and a willingness to learn, they're more interested in that than having a smart arse turn up on their doorstep. Trust me mate you'll be fine.

  • thanks I want to be an AET as well this is what i needed to hear cos im not a smart arse either i just passed maths in highschool but i have an incredible passion for machanics

  • shame you cant spell mechanics

  • learn to spell mechanics and thats a start

  • Iv'e Jus sent off my application form to be an AET and cnt wait, I know afew people who have been in the navy and they say it is quality.Make gud m8s, gud work and quality piss ups.luk forward 2 meetin every1 else whos goin in. The navy offers gud prospects and good pension, and to all the cunts who have nothing but shite 2 say u can get back 2 your basket weaving job, and stop slagging off good hardworking honest people who r going out there and working 4 their country.

  • i am going to raliegh on 30th november! contact me if you want any advise on selection

  • Gud luk m8. Y e jus wanted to know if u had any advice on the interview?

  • I would say get rid of the text spk before hand mate..

Do you know what your aircraft preference is?

  • my arcraft preference is 1185709687902847692769827692018642962618129410484 - 9

  • what on earth is that supposed to be?

  • my aircraft preference number

  • unless your typing in code..that's just odd.

aircraft preference, fixed, rotary, type, fast jet, cargo, more specifice harrier, lynx, puma, hawk, eh101 merlin mk1 or mk3 ?

  • @bossaboss69 be safe m8

  • @bossaboss69 well said mate

  • not sure m8 but im going to be doing it too , cant wait for proffessional training , 6 months defence collage then hands on at gosport , cant wait.

  • im gonna be doing this - how long after basic do you have to wait to get on the course?

  • hoorah the aet's! =D

  • WRESTLEMANIA!!!

    COME-ON!!!

Its a crime not to wrestle while you're sunbathing!!!

    It's the law.

  • THey probably make you join in and fight

  • when they don't have any aircraft to service they sunbathe.....my girlfriend does and she's an AET....lol

  • what do they have you doing when the aircraft don't require servicing? ITs little things like this that they dont tell you in the little glory brochures. If you aks the recruitment centres questions they dont always give a straight answer. There is always a catch where the goverment is concerned. I 've never trusted them. YOu might end up being random task man

  • I think u been smoking a little to much skunk mate.......

  • Most planes require over 10 times as much time in the hanger for every hour they fly, its unlikely the Navy are going to be 'serviced up' on their aircraft, its unheard of

  • Aint even funny, this is exactly what i wanted to be ( air engineering technician ) but i can't join the navy, RAF, Army or the marines because i have asthma !! so if you have asthma or any heart dieseases then look for another career !!

  • Is that fair? Asthma people are not that frail or am i missing something here? I can see why with heart disease it would be an issue

  • here's the thing though.

every person in every branch of the navy (and other respected armed forces) needs to be able to be on their game whenever their needed. if for whatever reason you aren't able to fulfill you're job (which can be anything from being drunk to not being able to get to an inhaler to allow you to breathe properly) people die.

it's unfortunate but it could cost.

  • Obviously you can't give a job to someone who will let you down during d-day. So it should be a case by case basis rather than a blanket ban. By the same token i can say some dudes with asthma will probably do some military things during battle way better than the very healthy! There are better ways around physical limitations that blanket bans!

  • I had the same treatment, im a dead aim and very fit, but just because of that 6 letter word i'll never see action

  • Mate I been onboard a submarine. They don't have breathing kits. But they can go from the sub to the surface without prob. It's the same if there is a fire. Save the rest of the crew before that person. if needs be lock him in so the fire dies out. There is more than the few people on a ship. It might be bad to hear. But you have to save the crew in a fire, flood anything. Also when there is a fire there is enough breathing kits for all personell on the fire duty to wear.

    So get a life.

  • you forgot to mention about the issue of being sent to sea with oprational defects. OOps!

  • thats because you are liers. I know the areas that dont have the oxygen within arms reach

  • there are areas that dont. There always floors in their tactics

  • you still f**king going on!! GET A LIFE MATE!

  • their is no good in bombs

  • MY what a gullable breed

  • ud expect the military to have state of the art everything but it seems their personal equipment is very basic and old. THeir survival kit is primitive. on a ship if you don't have access to oxygen at all times then you aren't safe at all. There should be a special escape pod which erects electronically which is bullet proof and bobm proof, but no. THere incompetence will destroy us all. England's incompetence is evident.treminal 5 at heathrow, 20 years in making and they still fucked it up

  • im guessing you've never been on board a REAL SHIP!!!! loser! stop shiting on the navy, we're trying our best for our country and your bringing it down c**t! if you have nothing useful to say you should really foxtrot oscar !!!

  • You do realize that there is no breathing apparatus kept for each person in their sleeping compartment so if you're compartment floods they have no breathing apparatus. How senseless is that in a hostile enviroment. IF you're compartment is flooding fast without breathing equipoment you are dead. THe survival suits they give you are not exactly state of the art. COmpared to the ones people can buy for thousands of pounds they are crap. THe lack of funding is really showing in the forces.

  • yeah the government spends too much on pouring money into the EU etc rather than properly funding the navy

  • im not sayin the navy doesnt have breathing appratus, they just dont have it in the right areas at the right time. you cant possibily have every area covered with breathing appratus for every individual. YOu hear the reports of the armed forces having shortages. i bet these occur in all areas. There's no such thing as a free luch

  • actually there is dumbass, you obviously have never beeen on board a royal navy ship!

  • not in every area though. if it isnt on you're peron at all times then statistically you are at risk. The navy should take nasa approach to growing food onboard using aeroponics. IT reduces payload. DOes the navy grow there own food with aeroponics? MAybe they should. you can grow tons of veg and it keeps fresh and grow five or tens time faster than soil. Nasa use it for space missions. ANything that reduces payload is good.

  • your a fuckin idiot! You have no ide at all do you, non whatsover!

  • hey hey hey just passed outer raleigh, had a few AET'S in there, really high failure rate apparently

  • Got my formal interview and medical tomorrow for this job. Can't wait.

  • gav1w , the royal navy isnt shit. The Royal Navy is the secound biggest Navy in the world but most advanced, Britian makes Anti-Air Destroyers since we are a defensive country. America makes Air-craft carriers for World Air Supperiority so we need america to live, but they also need us to protect them so its kind of 50-50.

  • going in on 24feb up the matlo

  • good luck mate! been in 5 years and still love it!

  • Being bound by somebody elses rules is sometimes mans biggest restriction. You can pay big time for somebody else's mistakes. I don't tolerate other people's failures which is why i would not join. If there was a guarantee that knowbody would ever make a mistake then maybe so. That incident where those RN personel were kidnapped. they wer usin civil garmin gps nav units which are not meant for military use as they can be hacked so easily. They should of been using military channel gps units.

  • Bet she can't open a bloody stiff hatch in a rolling sea when the ships sinking though, i've seen it happen! Royal Navy, used to be good, now a F**king laughing stock!!

  • who in there right fucking mind would want there training..join the ira and be a real man........

  • Maybe somebody who knows the correct use of grammar.

  • Just sent in my application the other day,so hopefully this time next year i'll be in training.

  • Relax, I was just messing around. Just making a joke about everyone calling the British military spunkbuckets.

  • fair enough :P

  • The Royal Navy consists of floating spunkbuckets.

  • and the army, a load of stupid dipshit pongos, RAF, uptight crabmeat pricks.

Use your brain, stop using stereotypes.

  • dont take the piss just because you dont realise it it doesnt mean these people protect us every day of the week from drug trafficking and terrorism

  • life without limits? what about the sleeping area which is about the size of my kitchen cuboard. theres no such thing as a free lunch. You always pay in some way and not in a financial way.

  • for me the best bit is being the blokes spunk bucket!

  • A life without limits HAHA. You can only drink until 10.30 theres a fucking limit

  • LMAO

  • @danny842003

thats only for the first 9 weeks of basic training after that phase 2 pretty lax

  • Useless! Waste of oxygen this one!

  • aye its her job to be the local spunk bucket as well

  • Don't want to spoil anyones fun, but she works on Lynx...NOT harriers...

  • OOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo Get you!!!!!!

Who cares, She is a still Petty Officer Air Engineering Technician. Who is also a smart chick and a really pretty girl too.

  • at least shes got the balls to got in. bloody big head

  • im thinking of joinin to do warfare specialist any 1 wats it like wb andy

  • There is no such thing as that. You can be a Warfare Officer, very hard job. Gotta have at least 2 or 3 Bs in your A levels for them to consider you. But being an Officer isnt all that it is worked out to be :P

  • I think you will find there is such a thing lofty! Check out the RN website. Also you need 140 ucas points to join as a warfare officer which equates to a C and a D at A level.

  • I know :) My Papa works at Flagship and there are a load of 'trainee' officers there :P. And to get 140 UCAS points you need more than a C. A Cgrade is only 40 points or something, A is 120.

  • This is my new job cant wait!!!!!

  • Congrats. Good luck
