[Rocket going up and exploding into fireworks.] Now you should promote this. This is so good it can go in the newspaper! Fantastic song! Kudos! Marvelous! Tremendous! Sounds like a 8-bit final boss theme!
Today is Monday, Dec. 8th. This truly marks the end of the voting stage.
HOWEVER, due to both the need to find time to make the results video and the scarcity of votes, I will be allowing late votes until the video is made. Let me say that again, more concise and all majuscules:
YOU CAN STILL VOTE! PLEASE DO!
My reason for this is that I recorded and tallied everything using an Excel spreadsheet. It's extremely easy and accurate to record. I'll be releasing this doc. with the results video.
Yes, of course. Ironically, though the only time I wasn't ranked first in Computer Lit. was during the Excel Unit, I'm the only one in the class who actually puts the program to use. (And it was a big help, too!)
RAWR! I have found the will in myself to get my darned act together and vote:
-WEIGHTED VOTER-
5) Rusty8984 A nice choice of instruments that compliment each other well. It is a well rounded composition with an interesting development towards the end.
4) Pulse, MagrogOfMoria Love it, man, just love it. The cars and game boys work well for the main melody and the hearts provide an equally interesting underlying melody. A worthy entry.
3) buckyboy2009 An excellent composition! It has a nice pace, and the percussion is used very well. I especially love the part with the swans, and the planes and hearts simply won me over.
2) WaluiJay Fantastic work in terms of development throughout the piece, this was without a doubt one of my favourites from this contest. The hearts, planes and cars (and later, game boys) are used in an interesting way to maintain the theme of the song.
1) Unnamed Original, Tojso09 This just sounds truly brilliant. The shy guys give the piece an interesting melody, and the boos, coins and hearts lay down a well-developed backing to the profound effect of the shy guys. Job well done, Ill say!
Again, thanks for hosting the contest! And sorry for the proportionally long vote... Clearly, someone had a lot to say XD
Lol ok I'ma gonna post it now. I think I'm done...
It's a brilliant idea, it really is. MORE PEOPLE SHOULD VOTE IN THE SPECIALITY AWARDS. *hint hint*. I think what's putting people off, and I know that I felt this slightly too, is that it's hard selecting from such a vast quantity of compositions...
Nay, I do hope that whoever wins continues speciality awards, should they choose to host the contest...
Today would be the penultimate day of voting. However, I'm going to extend it another week in hopes to get more votes and because next week is inconvenient for me to make the response video.
As promised, I'm putting my vote in after a week. I'm also doing specialties, which you will be able to see in the Community thread. After much consideration...
5. SonicFan113 - the most varied and progressive theme in the contest, which I feel is greatly underappreciated
4. WaluiJay - a unique desert/Egyptian sort of piece that progresses well and uses instruments in unique ways. I feel guilty for not putting this higher, since it's really one of my favorite submissions.
3. Pulse - very catchy, jazzy, and creative. A little short, but the technique used was very well-thought out and masterful
2. 2nd Symph. B Minor - it takes a lot of talent to compose a classical piece since so much happens at the same time. B Minor is a dark key, which created a sinister mood.
1. Thepillows93 - the bass line and the harmonies of the cars and Mario Heads won me over. I loved the subtle variations of the main theme. Clear first for me.
second question, have I ever told you how well done your piece is? xD good use of soundset and all the instruments. Love the counter melodies and harmonics. Also, I like how you transitioned into the different parts, and how much difference you put between them ;)
I suppose that makes sense. I was just confused because I remember a message of some sort by brianLED that said something like "I would like you to not vote". Or something like that.
Sorry for the confusion. You all can vote if you want to; I just meant that if you don't, you'll actually be at better odds of winning because you won't be helping the competition. If you don't mind that, by all means go ahead.
I'm a little disappointed that no one's tried doing specialty voting. So far I've only received one vote, and even it is incomplete. :(
With so many entries, I wanted to do something really neat and unique with this contest. I guess maybe having the awards just seems overwhelming. Even so, I thought there would at least be some people that would do it. Alas, not.
Well, maybe people just didn't get around to it yet. You can vote on specialty awards by going to the link in the description. If I don't get some votes soon though, I'll have to scrap the idea.
Well, 5 days in and I've got 9 votes. Thanks a lot to everyone who voted thus far; you keep this contest moving. My personal vote will be in at the end of this week.
no.1 - スペリオルラルクシーンの大冒険; I love the use of the piano, sounds like a theme song to a anime series.
no.2 - (insert name here's) Theme; [im donig a copypasta of this one] Something was missing... not that I didn't like it... I thought that something else could have been added.
3- (insert name here's) Theme: I'm doing a copypasta on this one; Something was missing... not that I didn't like it... I thought that something else could have been added.
4- pulse: it gets you up a dancing, but it was really repetitive.
1- スペリオルラルクシーンの大冒険: I love piano WAY to much for this not to get my first vote.
2- Barren Battlefield: Sounds like something that belongs in an Grandia game, which IMO is one of the best games on the ps2 and has an awesome soundtrack!
1st: Thepillows93: Excellent, I could see a "bad guy's" while this being played! Especially something like Metroid. This could also work as an Epic "Final Boss Battle"
2nd: Pulse: *Gets up and grooves*
3rd: スペリオルラルクシーンの大冒険: When I hear original Composition, I think Piano.
4th: Deep Caverns, Without title, I would have thought that I was in a cave nice one!
5th: Ending Theme: Repeative, but still sounded like a ending to a certain type of RPG game.
Umm, well, it kinda is late. I would hate to defeat the concept of a deadline by allowing a late submission.
However, I would hate more to have the hard work of redoing it go to waste. Anyway, you did actually get it in on time; it was just in a bad soundset. Furthermore, who am I to turn down one more entry?
Okay, yup, I'll let you post it. That'll probably be it for late entries, though.
4th. orbofdestiny: desert - When watching this one particular piece, it made me feel like I was traveling in a real desert on an adventure. It felt lifelike!
5th. GuruXander6060: 1st Symphony in G minor - You this can actually be mistaken for Beethoven's!
1st. WaluiJay - He actually had the MOST EPIC piece out of all the entrants, so he gets my first place vote!
2nd. Thepillows93 - He was totally awesome! But, in my mind it felt like something was missing... I can't actually describe it but, her's was pretty awesome.
3rd. desseler4 - The beginning sounded pretty akward in a certain way, but overall it was pretty catchy.
3rd: 2nd Symphony in B minor by GuruXander6060-very nicely done classical piece. Awesome buildup, and the piano at the end was awesome as well.
4th: Tojso09-very relaxing yet complex piece and wonderfully written. The creator capitalized on the quiet tones of the MPC V2 instruments and made them work together nicely.
5th: Rusty8984-loved the melody, and nice use of percussion. Intense.
Wow. It's hard to vote for just 5 with so many good compositions, but after listening (and relistening) to every piece I was finally able to list my five favorites.
1st:(insert name here)'s theme by Thepillows93-I can't even put into words how much I love this song. The transition into the piano was so smooth, so awesome. The bassline was superb--This is the level of composing I hope to someday achieve.
Well, you vote for your top five. Check out the videos and figure out your favorites, and arrange them in a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th format. Sound good?
4)"Giles 1st Symphony in G minor"-GuruXander6060. It was nice to see an entry in a classical style! It's unique in that way. I loved the opening part the most, with just the coins and the shy guys.
5)"Deep Caverns"-SuperiorLarxene. While the piece was a little repetitive, I liked the creative use of the Yoshi and the cat! I also liked the slightly evil feel- I can sort of see where the title came from.
By the way, brianLED... yout composition in the background is great!
1)"Pulse"-MagrogofMoria. Loved the slightly jazzy feel and the bassline. Also, it was so catchy that I found myself wanting to dance along with it.
2)"[insert name here's] theme"- Thepillows93. I love the bass, and it does feel like it cound be a character theme- a protagonist's? Anyway, it held my interest throughout.
3)Buckyboy2009- I liked how well-planned it was, with a chorus and a bridge, etc. It had a nice, consistant melody without too much repetition.
That's one heckuva damn good piece you've got playing in the background... XD
I'm going to vote at some other point. I think voting towards the end will give one the best opportunity to evaluate each piece in isolation of one another, and a larger space of time in which to do it.
Someone needs to make an orchestrated version of this song!

Whew, listened to them all. Oddly enough, i placed myself 8th.
Anyway, here're my votes
magrogofmoria- awesome rhythm and use of sliding notes, music to dance to!
buckyboy- felt like a real song, lyrics probably would have pushed it up, but the jazz beats it
thepillows- really liked it, but the mario heads seemed too loud in some places, i blame original soundset
waluijay- good use of dynamics and repeated notes, sounds awesome
Rusty- typical boss theme music, but still fresh and new

1.buckyboy2009- first one but really really catchy, couldn't get a better explanation than that. :D
2.Pulse by MagrogOfMoria - nice repeater with very nice syncopation and with techno thrown in for the heck of it :D
3.(insert name here)'s theme by Thepillows93- i like how the melody shifts around.
4.Yes This is my Fourth One by IAmJeffWest(oh the irony, fourth place and fourth song)- i like the percussion usage in this
5.Overworld Theme by alexemail - because it seems like something for a game
kutturkuttur 3 years ago
3.Deep Caverns-The bat sound was amazing, and like many others have said, it sounds like a real cave theme.
4.Pulse-A great jazzy song, refreshing after hearing so many boss themes and whatnot.
5.Giles, 2nd Symphony-Just slightly better than the 1st symphony, and also nice to hear something other than a battle song.
orbofdestiny 3 years ago
1.(insert name here)'s theme-This song is a finely woven tapestry of musical awesomeness.
2.Darthan's Theme-This piece would make a great song for a villain. The calmer half is a nice addition as well.

Honorable mentions: (These made it to my notepad document, but not my top 5.)
Rusty8984: a FIRST-VIDEO Composer with a dramatic boss theme. I loved the slowdown
buckyboy2009: First entry in the contest, which says a lot. A little repetitive, but very well-developed
JeffWest's 4th: galloping, though it didn't progress as well as I'd have liked
Airship Rock: very good use of arpeggios, but a little short
1st Symph. G Minor: the 2nd was better developed, but this is good in its own right
brianLED 3 years ago

1 Pulse-This was very original and it sounded very real.
2 (Insert name here)'s Theme-Great Song. I really can't explain it very well, but it's good.
3 Barren Battlefield-I don't usually like the piranha plant, but I loved this. Sounds like it would be in a strategy game.
4 desert-Although there wasn't much to this song, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely sounded like a desert theme.
5 WaluiJ-Great boos song. I loved the use of very fast tempo. Some parts, however, seemed kind of random.
IAmJeffWest 3 years ago
Variety Award- WaluiJ. The fast tempo was creative idea.
Development Award- Giles, 2nd Symphony. This song was 2 minutes long and flowed well. Not much repetition.
Climactic Award- SonicFan113- The first 1.5 minutes were slow, but it heated up by the end.
Harmonic Award- desert- The car and planes went well together to make a good desert theme.

no.4 - desert; desert's are cool O.o
no.5 - deep caverns; sounds like an ACTUAL cave theme! sounds like a cave theme that could be used in Grandia 3!
thelunadivider 3 years ago
no.1 - スペリオルラルクシーンの大冒険; I love the use of the piano, sounds like a theme song to a anime series.
no.2 - (insert name here's) Theme; [im donig a copypasta of this one] Something was missing... not that I didn't like it... I thought that something else could have been added.
no.3 - pulse; it's a very groovy theme!

5- desert: it was the best sounding desert theme out of every song in the competition xD
Mazcade 3 years ago
3- (insert name here's) Theme: I'm doing a copypasta on this one; Something was missing... not that I didn't like it... I thought that something else could have been added.
4- pulse: it gets you up a dancing, but it was really repetitive.
Mazcade 3 years ago
1- スペリオルラルクシーンの大冒険: I love piano WAY to much for this not to get my first vote.
2- Barren Battlefield: Sounds like something that belongs in an Grandia game, which IMO is one of the best games on the ps2 and has an awesome soundtrack!
Mazcade 3 years ago
1st: Deep Caverns, It shows the most creativity out out every composition in the contest... in my opinion.
2nd: スペリオルラルクシーンの大冒険, Gotta love the piano!
3rd: Barren Battlefield, It was the most EPIC composition out of every song entered!
4th: (insert name here's) Theme, Something was missing... not that I didn't like it... I thought that something else could have been added.
5th: pulse, wasn't bad. it was actually epic, but it seemed repetitive.
davemarshall2 3 years ago
1st: Thepillows93: Excellent, I could see a "bad guy's" while this being played! Especially something like Metroid. This could also work as an Epic "Final Boss Battle"
2nd: Pulse: *Gets up and grooves*
3rd: スペリオルラルクシーンの大冒険: When I hear original Composition, I think Piano.
4th: Deep Caverns, Without title, I would have thought that I was in a cave nice one!
5th: Ending Theme: Repeative, but still sounded like a ending to a certain type of RPG game.

Weighted voter means if they vote then their votes count as more... or people who vote for them count as more?
IAmJeffWest 3 years ago
If they vote, the number of points their vote is worth is multiplied by 1.2x. You can see exactly how much by looking at the table around 1:19 .
It doesn't matter whether or not the people they vote for have 15 or more videos, it's just that the vote itself is worth more.
brianLED 3 years ago
Ok thanks I thought so.

Are you sure we can't vote for yours?
onewaystreet28 3 years ago
Thanks for the consideration, but no, mine is not a part.
brianLED 3 years ago
You sure?
Darn.

If you'd like to make me happy then vote in this contest instead! Voting for people in my contest is, in a way, like voting for me.

Hey! I'm re-composing Airship Theme. Would it be ok if I post it in late? (You won't regret it!)
desseler4 3 years ago
Umm, well, it kinda is late. I would hate to defeat the concept of a deadline by allowing a late submission.
However, I would hate more to have the hard work of redoing it go to waste. Anyway, you did actually get it in on time; it was just in a bad soundset. Furthermore, who am I to turn down one more entry?
Okay, yup, I'll let you post it. That'll probably be it for late entries, though.
brianLED 3 years ago
ok, thank you soooo much! I wonder how many votes this will get... >.>
desseler4 3 years ago
Haha, If we could vote for you brian. Everyone would vote for you as 1st. You would also recieve all rewards. Nice job man!

4th. orbofdestiny: desert - When watching this one particular piece, it made me feel like I was traveling in a real desert on an adventure. It felt lifelike!
5th. GuruXander6060: 1st Symphony in G minor - You this can actually be mistaken for Beethoven's!
SuperiorLarxene 3 years ago
SuperiorLarxene 3 years ago
5th: alexemail1 (Ending Theme): It was good, catchy, but sounded a bit weird in some places and was a bit empty.
4th: Thepillows93: Sounded not bad, catchy but something was wrong in there...
3rd: WaluiJ: His song was also very catchy it does fit to a boss battle, that's right but some parts sounded a bit weird.
2nd:buckyboy - his song was very long, sounded great, but was a bit too repetitive.
1st:MagrogOfMoria (Pulse) - his song is very catchy, sounds great without the use of dickspeed.

I forgot, I'm a weighted voter.

Intense.
MagrogOfMoria 3 years ago
2nd:buckyboy2009-Awesome song. I could see a band playing this. The use of counter-melodies was very nicely done. It's my favorite style of song.
MagrogOfMoria 3 years ago
MagrogOfMoria 3 years ago
I vote for Tojoso's entry.
HobocidalManiac 3 years ago
Well, you vote for your top five. Check out the videos and figure out your favorites, and arrange them in a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th format. Sound good?
brianLED 3 years ago
don't do that just because you know me...

I'll vote another day when I have more time, but HOLY CRAP THAT'S A GOOD SONG YOU WROTE!!!!

Voting (continued)
4)"Giles 1st Symphony in G minor"-GuruXander6060. It was nice to see an entry in a classical style! It's unique in that way. I loved the opening part the most, with just the coins and the shy guys.
5)"Deep Caverns"-SuperiorLarxene. While the piece was a little repetitive, I liked the creative use of the Yoshi and the cat! I also liked the slightly evil feel- I can sort of see where the title came from.
By the way, brianLED... yout composition in the background is great!
picforlife 3 years ago
oops... I spelled "your" wrong
picforlife 3 years ago
Thanks. And yep, you're a weighted voter. That explanation's more than satisfactory; thanks for voting. ^_^
Also, WaluiJ's video is back on the 'tube and in the contest. I've included his name in the voting and specialty section.
brianLED 3 years ago
I think I'm a weighted voter?
1)"Pulse"-MagrogofMoria. Loved the slightly jazzy feel and the bassline. Also, it was so catchy that I found myself wanting to dance along with it.
2)"[insert name here's] theme"- Thepillows93. I love the bass, and it does feel like it cound be a character theme- a protagonist's? Anyway, it held my interest throughout.
3)Buckyboy2009- I liked how well-planned it was, with a chorus and a bridge, etc. It had a nice, consistant melody without too much repetition.

Thank the lord you didn't enter. You would've won!
weraslolreeee 3 years ago 3
There's a lot to vote on. Feel free to take your time.
brianLED 3 years ago
If I could vote for this piece, I would. It's incredible.
I'll get around to voting eventually...
Lihyahm 3 years ago 4
That's one heckuva damn good piece you've got playing in the background... XD
I'm going to vote at some other point. I think voting towards the end will give one the best opportunity to evaluate each piece in isolation of one another, and a larger space of time in which to do it.
