Oh my gosh. I stumbled upon this quite accidentally and it broke my heart. Please tell me that this beautiful little boy is doing better now. No child should ever have to go through something like this.
@brooke050870 ... You'll be happy to know that after 3+ years of chemotherapy treatment, Zachary is cancer free and doing very, very well. He's been off treatment for a little over two years now. He is a happy, well adjusted, super smart, nine year old boy (who is wise WELL BEYOND his years). Thank you for your good wishes!

i have a friend called Daniel who was 5 when he was diognosed, he still has 2 years left of treatment so please wheerever is possible donate money to 'click clicck sargent' who not only help the children but also the siblings and parents.
My son was dignosed 21 days ago today with A.L.L . I hope your son is well , I know there is a long road ahead of me . I'm just trying to get prepared for it ... as prepared as i can .
I read that your son is doing well now. I am so happy for that. I am going to honor Zachary in the only way I know, by writing to my representative about the"Conquer Childhood Cancer Act" that you indicated in your comment. No child should have to face medical treatments like that. He is a brave boy. I hope he is able live and love just being a kid. - Thank you for sharing your story.
Michelle, thank you for your lovely comment. I really appreciate you honoring Zachary in such an important way. He completed three and a half years of chemotherapy treatment in January 09 and is doing very well. He is, as you said, enjoying just being a kid now. Thanks for your support.
Most of Zachary's hair fell out during delayed intensification (he was left with peach fuzz) and started growing back when he started long term maintenance.
I have had an epidural and a facet block done to treat sciatica pain. They sedated me as well because I was nervous about how much pain I was going to be in. They had to tie my legs down so I wouldn't move. That was the scariest part. My friends did not help by telling me how long the needle is. I hope that he doesn't have to go through this anymore. By the way I heard about spinal taps through a friend who had one done for meningitis. Before I had never heard of cerebrospinal fluid.
I prayed to Jehovah God to send you His holy spirit to help you endure..he loves you..and as a child of God I love you also..I pray for all children in pain in the name of Jesus Christ..Amen..
I had this procedure done yesterday. It was very painful during the procedure because of a lack of local anaesthetic. Also took the doctor at least four attempts to get to the spinal fluid, then it stopped dripping so she had to remove it and do it again. Since then my back has ached non stop and the pain around the area of insertion is unbearable. This young man is very brave indeed and I wish him all the best. I wish I had a fraction of his courage.
Why didn't the give you anaestesia? Also, I was wondering why they put chemo into the spinal fluid. I have had an epidural and I know what you mean about an achy back the next few days. Try icing it twenty minutes on and off. That really helps. Also, a hot bath.
I could be very, very wrong, but I believe there is the possibility of cancerous white cells in the cerebrospinal fluid, and this is a major issue for kids with leukemia so they need to put the meds in directly in order for them to be most effective.
Do they take the spinal fluid out to check for these white cells and at the same time inject the chemo? Does he feel this, or do they sedate him and numb him up? All the same it sounds terrible. I have had needles poked in my spine as well. The most scary part was them tying my legs down.
Yes, I believe they are able to take the fluid first for cytology and then put meds in through the same needle. I think local can be used, but not entirely sure. It's most likely this child was scared and couldn't stay still, so they sedated him so he would not move. This is important as one slip up can put the needle into his spinal chord and paralyze him, so naturally they can't having him jerking around...
I have not had this done but my understanding is that it hurts quite a bit...
Oh... It hurts a lot to see this little angel in pain... Don't worry Zachary, you're not alone. We'll pray for you. Be strong sweetie. I know you are. ♥
b17 doesnt work, have u heard of anyone that was cured from it other then someone trying to promote it. If did help or cure people would know about it. Dont be ignorant, there are 100 types of different cancers b17 might help with a few but not all. My grandmother has cancer and she tried that and didnt work at all.
god will help your little baby boy and cure him and give him a miracle too he is such a brave little boy and a beautifull little boy god bless you and your little boy love nadine dambra
Thank you for your thoughtful and caring message. I am heartened to receive messages of encouragement from total strangers. It shows me how God works through people sharing good will.
Im deeply sad to hear about zackary but please consider looking for videos fron Dr. Lorraine Day. A cure for cancer and leukemia already exists, chemo is not the answer thats like trying to kill the cancer before you kill the patient. my thoughts are with zack, take care of him and teach yourself.
Part 3 of response. I have seen parents of children with cancer literally travel to the ends of the world for holistic and "other" non conventional treatments to help cure their children only to have then perish nonetheless. When a cure for cancer is found, the world will know about it and I, along with so many others, will once again sleep soundly.
Part 2 of response. Regrettably, chemotherapy doesn't always rid the body of cancer and often times it does a great deal of harm. Having said that, as far as I, and most well informed medical professionals know, chemotherapy is the only quasi effective treatment for cancer.
Part 1 of response. Thank you for your concern. We appreciate positive thoughts and prayers from all well wishers. With all due respect, I must tell you the statement you made to there being a cure for cancer and leukemia is incorrect. A CURE for cancer does not exist. If it did, hundreds of thousands of people would not be dying of the disease.
my parayers are with your little boy. i do hope he can be cured from this cancer. i know i might be really late but have you ever concidered carryin ghim to St. Judes childrens Research Hopital. they do cutting edge work for all different types of cancers.
I have lymphoblastic lymphoma and have been undergoing chemotherapy for 2 years now, I have 6 more months to go. My doctor is treating me as if I have Leukemia and so I am very familiar with the chemos and procedures such as LPs. I was diagnosed at 19 yrs and so I was place in a pediatric oncology unit. I see children whom I've grown close to who have leukemia. They are strong beings. I often notice that it is their parents who are the weak ones... He will feed off of your strength. Take care.
Thank you for your thoughtful, caring and inspirational message. Everything you say is so very true. You are a beautiful young woman both in and out. We wish you the best of everything. May you realize all your dreams and may you always be healthy and happy. You will be in our prayers.
Good luck to this young man. May god bless him and keep us updated on his progress. Geez, he is to young for this crap. Like I said, God and others are looking over him to make him well again.
You are most welcome. My 2 year old has ALL. Most people will only see what theese kids go through by watching videos like this. Thank you for posting this and sharing his story :)
May God Bless you and your family! I also have a 4 year old who is fighting Leukemia. My heart goes out to all the families to stay strong and know that "God won't put no more on us than we can bare".
