great video. i have a remington 788 in .243 and am looking to redo the finish in hi-gloss. how far should i follow this video before i switch to the hi-gloss finish? also, any other tips particular to the 788? thanks.
@boydsgunstocks thanks for the reply.. but i would like to know do i have to?? i dont want the stock to crack or something because it is not beded....
I think the video is good enough as a tutorial on how to finish a stock using the True-Oil method and Mr. Boyd is kind enough to share his knowledge with everyone. For those who think the image quality is not good enough or complain about the audio, keep in mind that before Internet and Youtube instructions came in a booklet with no pictures or bad ones at the most. Stop complaining or making fun of people or post something yourselves, mediocre bastards...
Nothing but respect for Boyd's... I read a story recently about the M1 Garand Stock they made for Darrel "Shifty" Powers (of Band of Brother's Fame). The Garand Stock had the Airborne emblem, Curahee Crest, etc engraved into it. A very well-thought idea and certainly worthy of praise. Google "a rifle for Shifty" to see the whole story. I just finished refinishing a stock for a ww2 Trench Gun. I cheated a bit and used red oak stain and 2 coats of Linseed oil (matches my Garand exactly)
@njmvermont I don't know what action or stock you're looking for, but go to Boyds website and choose your action to see what stock configuration are available then look for the Forest Camo Laminate. It may be what you're looking for. Boyds' finished stocks are not glossy, they are a Satin Finish. Hope this helps.
Followed the procedure as laid out in the video and my SS Evolution stock came out beautiful. (Sky Laminate) Everywhere I take it people stop, stare, and want to hold it. Usually they are intrigued by the SS Evolutions uniqe shape, but they soon compliment me on the finish. Thanks for the great tutorial! I've got a video on my channel of me shooting my finished SS Evolution Ruger 10/22.

@BALIJABOY Hello, thanks for asking; it's never a bad idea to glass bed your stock, it will give you the best accuracy.

I've never met Randy, in person, BUT ... After holding a Boyd's Evolution Stock, in my hands, for thirty seconds ...
... It was (suddenly) as if I had known him for thirty years ! I would have thot it silly, to dote on a chunck of wood, ... would have.
Thankyou, Randy, for my Jungle Laminate SS Evolution (93-E) !
(svelte, snappy, ideal portage and holds ... WIELDY ! )
