I wish the radio sounded like this!!! Fuck all this new shit that gets old within 2 months due to the lack of lyrics and no heart put in music these days!!!
BIG is the key word here! Everything was big back then The Cellphone battery looked like a car battery , the antenna pulled out "3" times (lmao) The hair, the glasses, the chains but most important the LYRICS were STILL BIG.... But we lost the LYRICS when we lost The BIG on March 9, 1997
You could not be more off base. My crew and I used to hang with Erick, Parrish, Kenyon (K La Boss) and Kevin (K-SOLO). I still remember as if it was yesterday the first time Red Alert played You Gots To Chill on Kiss. It was the summer of '88, and my boys and I were in my ride, pumpin' it on the radio, going off. I am a Brooklyn, New Yorker; I used to roll tough with crews from Uptown, B'klyn, Queens, and Strong Isle. If you are going to step to me, you need to come correct, or else step off.
HEY YALL IM TRYIN 2 BRING BAC THE OLD SCHOOL N I NEED SOME FEED BACK ON HOW IM DOIN. IM 14 N IM SICK OF HEARIN ALL DIS SHIT BOUT MONEY CARS CLOTHES N HOES N I WANNA LISTEN 2 SOME REAL MUSIC LIKE DIS. BUT 4 CHICAGO IT ONLY COMES ON EVERY SUNDAY ON 103.5 FOR ONLY 4 HOURS. SO I WANNA BRING BACK REAL RAP 2 2011 OR 12 N 4 US TO LISTEN 2 THINGS THAT HAVE MESSAGES LIKE IT DID BAC N DA DAY! N IM 14 N IM NOT GARBAGE TRUST ME. SO CHECK OUT MY CHANNEL! THANKS :)
@PigChampi0n I hear you. Many of their videos were pretty funny (often unintentionally; remember MC Sheriff?). They had a unique style, and still came off hard.
was parrish smith wearing nike air command forces? those sneakers were sick they were one of the only air pump shoes that nike ever put out along with the nike air pressure and the nike air command force 180
I remember having this vid on vhs back in the day. In many ways, this vid is the quintessential hip hop vid. It has all the elements- The guns, The grafitti, the dancing, the scratching and dj'ing, and the timeless lyrical theme about taking out "wack mc's"..not to mention a killer east/west coast collabo with NWA who was the biggest group at the time, but EPMD always got love from the west due to their funk samples and slow flow. classic vid!! EPMD and NWA..now how gangsta is that??!
Neither did I. And the answer is this video. I'm just wondering if Ice Cube appears here. It was in 89, around the time Cube and the rest of the crew had a feud which led to him splitting from the group. But the same year he appeared in The D.O.C.'s album. I only spotted Eazy, Ren and Dre in the video though. Oh and Cube was still down with EPMD after splitting, he shouts-out them in his album.
How did you miss the jheri curls, lol... Yes, Cube did appear in this vid as well as Ren, Yella & Eazy... You can see him at 1:56 shootin' a gun, then at 2:03 Eazy's on the left, Cube's on the right; you can clearly see Cube at 2:23 lookin at the camera... Also you can see Parish givin' dap to Yella at 2:10
@sicvic420 No. But maybe if they had started out a year or two earlier; NWA had nothing on BDP, which was doing "gangsta rap" long before it was classified as a distinct form of Hip-Hop.
@ElConquistadorNo1 youmust be from tha south?you gay bitch ny and l.a are the foundation of hiphop you bitch fuck tha south and ya gay era of rapm lil gay wanye guci man all wack
yawn ZZZZzzzzz, only in hip hop genre people argue where it came from if it never outside of NY the shit would be dead
Jazz started in new orleans but its worldwide and jazzz artist do not gloat or boast about it starting in a specified place. the same can be said of other music genres such as rock
dj scratch did not join epmd till their 3rd album, rather it was dj k-la boss who then became craig mack's dj, dj scratch with epmd from the third album and on
CORRECTION: DJ Scratch joined EPMD for "Unfinished Business"; their second album. No one could do those dope scratches on "So Wat Cha Sayin" but DJ Scratch. The only ones that could come close was DJ Cash Money and Jazzy Jeff; Tat Money was good too. Look up the "Unfinished Business" album and check the credits. DJ Scratch is there. :)
woah the BELMONT yard in this video 1:35. Back from my TAGGER era. If you where a tagger graff artist in the late 80's and 90's in Los Angeles you know what I'm talkin about.
Sammy D, f*** you!!!! I told you back in 1989 that there was a big payback video, but you said there wasn't one and you've been saying I was crazy for 20 years...and you claim to be the biggest EPMD fan. This was my "BIG PAYBACK"!!!!!!
Yeah,Bet and MTv didn't show the video because at that time they didn't consider hip-hop legitimate form of music.Especially super MC's like Erick sermon and Parrish Smith.
that's not true... this video came out in '89. By that point, both MTV and BET had hip-hop video shows. MTV didn't play this because of the guns, but BET did actually play this video back then. You could also catch it on the Video Jukebox Network (aka The Box).
An old school joint!I still got the "Unfinished Business"tape from back in the day(bad move!why didn't I go for vinyl?) EPMD were a part of Hip Hop's Golden Age.Back then it wasn't just about the money,& every MC had their own style of flow & prose (unlike now, where you need to see a video clip to be able to tell any difference!) Today's perception of Hip Hop has been brainwashed by the media & manipulated by record companies, they don't want people thinking for themselves, including the artists!
Peeps need to calm-a-llama down!EPMD are one of the most important crews in the history of rap,yet still one of the most overlooked.True Hip Hop Pioneers! The man didn't kill hip hop,but he tainted it's core with greed for the almighty dollar(that's why today's'rappers'such as Kanye&50 make more $ from selling clothes & bottled water than their music). But you gotta dig under the surface & you'll find the real deal-KRS-One;Chuck D;Paris etc.-get yourself schooled!
30hrpunch. No problem. We real hip hop fans gotta stick together. You are definitely right. Days, sadly, long gone. But they ARE going to return. The Man took hip hop from us, but we are gonna TAKE IT BACK!!!
we need real MC's take over not being the same we need rapper like big daddy, rakim ,epmd, female MC's 2 like MC LYTE OR ROXANNE SHANTE WERE ARE THEY WE NEED THEM NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
ostioporosis of the fucking brain, you are another story.....
No I didn't know that Soulja fag and 50 were not around back then....I am a fucking idiot who doesn't know what he is talking about.
You actually believe that, I have a bridge to sell you...you fucking moron!!! Now finish your meatloaf Mom made you, brush your teeth, get your teddy bear, and go to bed.....stupid faggot ass bitch!!!
30hourpunch. Whoooooa there for a second. I was sarcastically agreeing with your joke. You actually thought I was trying to challenge your joke? Come on now. I have been a HUGE fan of EPMD for 2 decades now. I was just being sarcastic. I thought your comment about 50 and soulja boy was funny, I was just adding some sarcasm to it. No need to be like that now.
Another thing I don't understand. Why are peeps in Georgia so anti-real hip hop, as a whole (although cunninglinguists and celph titled are from ATL? Heck, DJ Scratch (this video) and Grand Puba (all for one)rocked UGA gear in their vids. I grew up on Strong Isle, and I rocked a "Heavy G and the Bulldogs" tee back in the day? Come on, dirty south, come over to the real!!
The south for the most part pretty much ruined hip hop with the exception of Out Kast and The Geto Boys and maybe a few others,it seems to be more anti north, east ,west and every place in between more than anything. They feel like they never have been respected for their "contributions".It's an us against the world mentality ,so about 90% of them have spawnwed this distorted mutation of hip hop music (what u hear on radio)at least where I live now, that wally wally, wobble, all about "ice" sh*t
WAAAW!!THIS JOINT ROCKS ITS BS THAT THEY DIDNT LET US SEE THIS ONE BACK IN THE DAY WASS WRONG? ONYX AND MAD OTHER ARTISTS GOT TO SHOW GUNS IN THEIR VIDS PLUS NICE REMIX!! YA IM GETTIN ONE A MY YOUNGER HOMIES HIP TO SOME SLICK EAST COAST ISH!!!HE IS/WAS(and im not HATIN on this fact but..)A SOUTH FAN SO FAR HE'S LOVIN WU GANG STARR MF DOOM IM NOW MAKIN HIM AN EPMD CD SLICK RICK'S NEXT!!!! NOT 4 NOTHIN THO HE'S HIPPED ME TO SOME DOPE SOUTH SHIT(yes there IS such a thing....u'd be surprised!!)
Its the same thing its always been. People up North always hate on the South. Even dating back to the CIVIL WAR. Its juss a different way of doing things. To people down south, the stuff you hate is real hip hop
30hourpunch. You are wrong on that. If it was 50, he would have had a BP vest on. That did look like soulja boy and hurricane chris though. The abducting record producer looked like collipark. And his female sidekick was probably lil mama
Is it me, or did that cell phone look like a 30 pound dumb bell? lol

UGANathanExplosion 3 years ago
The south for the most part pretty much ruined hip hop with the exception of Out Kast and The Geto Boys and maybe a few others,it seems to be more anti north, east ,west and every place in between more than anything. They feel like they never have been respected for their "contributions".It's an us against the world mentality ,so about 90% of them have spawnwed this distorted mutation of hip hop music (what u hear on radio)at least where I live now, that wally wally, wobble, all about "ice" sh*t
