@geocachespoilers In this particular case I did hollow out the inside. It was required for a pivot type opening. For the first lock I built I made just the bottom plate completely removable and was held in place by magnets. For that one, all I had to do was remove the key mechanism and a nano fit perfectly inside.
Odyssey_ here, the one who made the cache. It's pretty easy to make with a Dremel tool and/or a bandsaw. What really sells it is the weathering (rust), and placement. You don't want the lock to look out of place. ThingsMismatched did a great job placing this one.
It may be different in europe but about every urban cache i find is a magnetic micro on a stop sign and i hate those because they are so boring and obvious, do you have that problem in europe?
Holy crap, I hope you rated that one a 3 or higher for difficulty! I did one that was a fake sprinkler head. Looked for hours before stumbling on it. Yes, hours over 2 visits. Never give up (but I did send the owner an pm asking to confirm it was still there after visit one, before visit 2.)
I'm probably not ready to place any yet, but I have this sense of not intruding on other peoples property. This one looks like it is just hung on a fence at the marina. Is that the cache owner's own fence, or public property? Or what? Seems like everything belongs to someone? Do you knock on someone's door and ask? or just do it? Yes I will read more about the rules before I do one, but it just seems like a big question.
@ClUbPenGuIn0wNz OK...I trust you. Still looking for my first. I can see this can become an obsession. I am already obsessed with it and am still just learning. Another day of looking.
Aw good hide!

@sesameseedbun so did you have to hollow the padlock out? Or is it already hollow once you remove the workings?

@NvrTuLate all caches must have permission the rules say. I bet 96% of em at least don't!

@NvrTuLate It's a public park and boardwalk. Very very busy in the summer actually.

I can tell I'm not going to be good at this. Would never have figured that out. I may not have such a clever mind. That is amazing.

@NvrTuLate Trust me once you find enough you get used to it. Once you started GeoCaching you are constantly thinking of new ideas =).

@NvrTuLate That's really cool. Goodluck with your first find. One mistake I made was trying to find a 3 star difficulty cache as my 2nd cache =/.

Who would have thought it would be the lock itself. Brilliant!! :D

Is this something you have to buy or can you make them? Is there a website where someone tells how to do it?

@hikerjamz1 My friend has a machine shop and access to all sorts of metal saws. He custom made this for me.
