ok im an archer i've shot mongolian reflex bows thats not thick enough with wood let alone pvc,get a scale and pillar of wood place the pillar on the scale, place your bow handle on the pillar and press down on the srting doing that the scale will tell u the pull my bet less than 40
@randomredhead82 with 1inch pvc...you should be able to get 50lbs at least...without putting any pvc in it...mine are just half and 3quarter inch and I am getting 25 to 35 without putting anything in it...just having fun with the kids
I have a 60 pound recurve I've been using it for a year and I'm 14 6'1" and 215 pounds so it's easy but a slight challenge there's no way that bow is 70 pounds
@D4nnyB0y1997 It is a 70 lb bow. It was not easy to pull, but I have drawn heavy bows enough times to make it look smooth in the video. Sitting also changes the way you draw a bow vs standing or kneeling. This thing has a straight F/D curve. Goes from little under ten pounds at brace to 70 at full draw. Consequently it is rather slow, but no worse than many selfbows that require a much greater investment of time and energy. A PVC pipe and an hour or so of time is all it really takes.
@D4nnyB0y1997 im with you on that one. he didnt even struggle. i make 50 to 60 pound longbows and recurves and i still cant hold a full draw for more than 3 seconds like you did.
@samljer Thanks for the info and the praise. It's good to hear from somebody else doing the same thing. I hunt boar with a 45lb Shakespeare Kaibab as well as a 55lb PVC bow with maple tips. I find the Kaibab is faster, but the PVC bow hits much harder than any of my selfbows of similar poundage.
Like you said, expect a lot of replacement, especially in the beginning. As you make more, they get better, but as they say, you get what you pay for.
Backyard bowyer I was wondering if you would be interested in building me a PVC horn bow that I can use for hunting if so please let me know then we can talk price and bow specs thanks and aloha from kauai.
aw dude this sucks like hell ;s i really want a bow like that bow with the wooden ears ;( my parents wont let me but the book ;s plss make a vid about it :( ?

That's definitely not a 70 lb bow because you didn't even use your back and it was easy to pull god people don't know shit these days

@D4nnyB0y1997 Hawaiians are stronger than you think, I've lifted a lot of weights and those dudes are strong
lynx777 4 days ago
TIP to readers:
PVC Draw weight cant be compared to that of a real bow, as pvc
flexes back to resting position slower.
I would say a 50lb PVC is like a 35lb composite.
at least thats been my experiance out of 12 or so PVC bows
but i will agree, this guys bows are of better design then others.
and with PVC a recuve is always going to be what you want
if your going to hunt.
ive taken down a deer with a pvc bow, they do work, and well.
expect to make many though, they dont last forever.

@BackyardBowyer friend of mine is probably going to post some videos, dont know.
ive made 2 styles, one which is your horse bow.
I buy my arrows retail, and find the penetration is very bad ;(
thinking i may flatten them instead of keeping them round,
hope it causes the flex back to rest to happen faster, and get some speed with the same
draw.
samljer 4 months ago
@samljer I find flattening the limbs is a great help.
It distributes the force of the string being drawn much more evenly, taking away handshock and a lot of the hollow PVC noise.
My PVC hunting bow is around 5 feet in length, made from 1" sched 40 pipe. It retains a 4" reflex when unstrung.
I personally like using hardwood arrows as penetration is increased.
I'm used to longbows and recurves that never really go past 190 FPS, so I go heavy with my arrows.

@BackyardBowyer hmmm i may just take the ones i have now and flatten them then, see what happens.
I may even flatten the handle opposite the rest of the bow.
if its still no good i may try a slingbow, or go buy a nice one.
