i hope the earth doesnt get swallowed by the sun and incinerated, but pushed to another orbit, so it MIGHT survive the explosion and have another chance in a few billion years to find a new sun so life can start over. lol
a red giant is big but cool. It could co-exist with earth for a long time before it became a super giant and engulfed us. Thing is, we are so war-like we would kill owrselves long before any of it ever happened. This would not happen all at once, it is another stage in the sun's life cycle from it's blue birth. It's basically the theory of the Sun running out of fuel: Scientists and many atheists started working out and now believe that the Sun won't be around forever because it's burning its fuel to make heat: Hydrogen into helium.
If the Sun runs out of Hydrogen it will go into its second state which is the Red Giant, a massive object that could destroy the orbits of Mercury, Venus and MAYBE Earth.
After the Sun runs our of Helium, it will turn into a white dwarf and whither away

This video is incredibly unrealistic. The process being shown will take nearly four billion years, yet the Earth makes not even one orbit. I wish people would think before making these fancy simulations. Sure, they look cool, but they're misleading.

This video is incredibly unrealistic. The process being shown will take nearly four billion years, yet the Earth makes not even one orbit. I wish people would think before making these fancy simulations. Sure, they look cool, but they're misleading.

this will happen in 4 million years time. However, the earth will be long unrecognisable and uninhabitable for any live long before. It will look somewhat like what Mars looks like now. Last life on earth will be blue algae, and then nothing. Building will remain untill the end almost except concrete and sandstone ones (highrise and pyramids for example, also stonehenge will be long gone). The source of life will also be the source of destruction for us.

our sun simply isn't massive enough to become a supernova. it will expend all its energy in the red giant state, then revert to a white dwarf before finally burning out. besides, after a supernova, the remnants would be either a neutron star with nebula gases or, if the star was massive enough, a black hole.

assuming that humans survive the initial increase of luminosity of the sun by migrating to outer platets, they should find a way to migrate to other cooler stars lke orange or red dwarfs, if they want to survive, of course. even if this feat seams almost impossible, human race with its amazing intelligence WILL find a way to go to other stars in the scale of millions of years...

Titan would probably be a good candidate when the sun turns into a red giant. But by the time the earth is uninhabitable for any life in around 500 million to 1 billion years due to the suns growth, evolution will turn us into something else, or the human race will screw up at something and die off. Who knows...

technically the sun will have ended life on earth alot earlier then this. because it gets brighter every year, in around 500 million years it should be too hot for life to be sustained on earth. so dont worry about this instead worry about the other problem, in fact dont worry youll be worm food by then ;)

Facts: The sun will nova, and it will likely consume Earth. This will occur in ~5billion years. However, in 1 billion years, all the water on earth will be boiling due to the sun's heat as it moves towards the nova stage.
During galactic collisions, it is the gas and dark matter that interact via gravity, not solid objects (i.e. stars do not crash into each other. although ultimately the black holes at their centers may combine). We do not know if the sun will become a white or a brown dwarf.
