  • A song of my childhood,too !!

  • Give me a break. The situation in Japan is a result of a natural disaster. Not because nuclear power is bad, and evil, and can end the world. Fear mongering bullshit.

  • @MegaDrProfessor SEEMS SO A MELTDOWN IS ON THE WAY

  • @MegaDrProfessor go fucking live in a reactor then u piece of shit!!

  • @eiffe Lol. That's mature.

Look, what's happening in Japan is a result of a natural disaster. It's impossible to prepare for an earthquake of that magnitude. There was nothing wrong with the plant(s) before the earthquake. It stands to reason that when there is an earthquake with such force, something is bound to go wrong.

There is nothing wrong with nuclear power. If you want to keep powering our world with coal and natural gas, so be it. We won't pay for it. The next generation will.

  • @MegaDrProfessor have you heard of renewable energy? i have. besides, it all doesn't matter. nuclear power isn't safe as you can see, regardless of cause. we both live on this planet, i have to suffer your consequences. i don't want it.

  • @MegaDrProfessor THE NEXT GENERATION WILL BE DRAMATIC AFFECTED BY AN MELTDOWN IN JAPAN !

IT´S A PRADOX TO SAY THAT NUCLEAR POWER IS BETTER FOR THE PLANT THAN COAL ; BUT IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH NUCLEAR POWER IT´S INCREDIBLE DIASTER FOR EVERYBODY AND YOU CAN´T CONTROL IT NUCLEAR POWER SO IT SOULD BE FORBIDDEN!

  • Oh my gayness. wow so gay im prolly gonna go look to youthanasia because i would rather die than live with this video within a 500,000,000 mile radius. and i dont have enough money to move that far.

  • @MultiOfof what is youthanasia?

  • THIS SONG IS ABOUT A POSSIBLE NUCLEAR MELTDOWN NOW WE HAVE THIS SITUATION IN FUKUSHIMA. TWO YEARS AFTER THIS SONG WAS RELEASED WAS THE CHERNOBYL DISASTER!

  • This prophetic Ultravox video has always amazed me! Like the previous commenter, my sincerest wish for the safest posible outcome in Japan!

  • @RogerReadingRainbow

Conditions have already deteriorated in the first reactor and there is a second that is already venting. 3 more are also declared under state emergency. Fuel rods are exposed in the first reactor! Reported by local media.

  • Best wishes for Fukushima

  • The anti-nuclear message was a tiresome. There's no avoiding resorting to it eventually. If a nuclear blast over a populous like this video portrays happens, it's vastly more likely to come from a terrorist attack brought about by buying middle-eastern oil.

We should have gone nuclear power ages ago to have ensured a safer today.

90% of France's electrical power comes from nuclear power. How could France, the epicenter of liberal indoctrination, have gotten this right and not the rest of us?

  • @TheJediCharles your prophetic talents scare me.

  • @havoc23

Do you have a response with real, thoughtful content, or just shallow contrarianism?

  • so geil , die 80er jahre waren die besten

  • tears,a,lot,when,i,do,my,perform,over,over,again

  • mi piace

  • Sad how many songs you forget (even thought they were so popular at the time) when you haven't heard them for so long.

  • please check out: TANX - Come down

  • Midge Ure is sooo gorgeous!! I'd love to be snuggled up in bed with him. Petite men are always more sexy. Who wants a heavy, great sweating fat lump on top of you?

  • Absoluter hit mit einen videos dessen inhalt 2 jahre später sich in tschernobyl zugetragen hat

  • Powerful video

  • im born in 91 but the 80s owns

  • jeden z najlepszych utworów w historii muzyki-bez dwóch zdań!!! uwielbiam go od 26 lat...

  • i break down into tears everyime i listen too and watch this video, amzingly emotional

  • wer 80´s nicht feiert den versteh ich nicht

  • GOOD TIMES...GOOD TIMES!!!

  • One of the best 80s tunes - i.e. one of the best tunes ever written and recorded. Nothing wil surpass the 80s. It had everything. The hooks, the idea, the magic... And the video is awasome too.

  • FANTASTIC MEMORIES THOSE WERE THE DAY'S.

  • I seem to remember seeing this video on top of the pops - and it shooting up the charts the week after it was shown

  • i had tear's with the memories ;(

  • Waaaaaaaaatchiiiiiiiiiinnng with tears in my eyes!!!!!!!

  • The only Ultravox for Me is the original set with Stevie "Aka John Foxx" on vocals.

From being a truly original band, (I saw them live back in 78)

They changed when Foxx left the band and after that it was mainstream synth-rock !

  • I had tears in my eyes... :(

  • thats the real 80´s

  • I have tears in my eyes seeing him run like a girl in the video.

  • New album on the way, hopefuly followed by a tour.Never thought it would happen,

    Happy days.

  • no tears? no love.........

  • I can't even fathom how 114 people have disliked this. It's such an awesome tune!

  • This is the only band i have never gotten bored with.

  • can't say i would care if i was under that sheet with him...what a way 2 go!!!

  • @janemaryi Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "going out with a bang".

  • Great song, hilariously bad video!

  • i wish the video was mwith sun when goes down

  • Fuck Sony Entertainment!!!

  • Świetny kawałek

  • I was number 5000 to really like this song and to shiver watching the video. Loved this band and still listen to them to sing loudly along.

  • So magnificent.

Why cant the music world be like the eighties. When artist cared about music, and when it was an expression about things that matters.

  • @kruegerrand Agreed! I was just playing the song "If I Was" by Ultravox which someone has used as the song for a montage of clips from the 1992 movie Wuthering Heights and it has meaning which resonates throughout.

  • @kruegerrand Agree, expression counts for nothing now. Now it is all about money and appearing virtually naked in videos and on stage.

  • Über 25 Jahre her und aktueller denn je, da sieht man mal, dass trotz viel gerede sich selten was ändert...

    Genialer Song.

  • Pretty awful video,

    but nice song.

  • Geniales, zeitloses Video und: schick ist Midge Ure mit langer Matte und Schnurrbart; ach ja die 80er!!!

  • Still goose skin, after all those years!

  • in my eyes the start of the end of ultravox... if you've been fan of the first 3 LPs...

  • amazing song

  • Now I regret that I was born in '85 and not in `75...

  • fenomenalna pesma!!!!!!!!!!!

  • extraaaa song

  • This is nothing compared to Joy Division.

Romanticism. Midge doesn't even know he's born.

  • Wow, nice electronic drumms!

  • this video and the movie "The Day After" gave me nightmares that still come back at times.

even so, i'd love to go back !

  • A song from my childhood, very special and unforgettable.

  • @Ellenoreful ok, relax, some ppl didnt have a childhood very special and unforgettable. showoff.

  • @purpleTHEwhite This song is for me very special and unforgettable. My childhood, too, but I was talking about the song. I think you misunderstood me. (;

  • Ultravox and Midge Ure made their mark on the 80's and I'm glad they did

  • If i could travel back in time i would relive the 80's over and over. epic misic era

  • @PrometheusX9 ill come along

  • i have the same pencil 0:11

  • Dan-singgggg with tearzzzzz -zin mi-yiiiiiiis. Midge Ure had such a great singing style. He was as good as Bing or Sinatra. Just another example of how great the legitimate 80's were.

  • This deserves a billion views!

  • Wearing those jumpers they deserved to be nuked

  • The video was about an accident at a nuclear power plant, but the song came out in the midst of nuclear war worries in the 1980's during the weapons build-up between the US and the USSR. The lyrics work either way: a Chernobyl-like incident or nuclear warheads on their way.

  • i'm 59,and new wave, will always be my favorite!!!

  • Atomkraft? Nein danke! - Nuclear Power? No thanks!

  • Erstklassig!!!!!!

    500.000.000 *******

  • Went to see Midge last night at Lincoln theatre, just him with just a guitar.Sang this, amongst others, while suffering from a cold.He was awsome

  • @kiloh11 lucky you,to see midge,he s kind of a god to mee after all these years, from slik to ultravox..he s comlete genius

  • They used a sample of alien 1 in the beginning.

  • @Horlitz hahaha could be

  • Although I was only 2 years when this song came out I prefer music like this much over that we get to hear today in the radio. Awesome song!

  • excellent

  • Katastrofa Nuklearna w stylu ameryki ( Każdy o niej wie) nie jak w Czarnobylu gdzie ludność dowiedziała się dopiero duch 2 dnia po katastrofie we czasie ewakuacji

  • the moment when he gets in and hugs her is such an emotional scene..everyone would dance with tears in their eyes in such occasion, especially if they had a baby..it made me cry and realize once more that wo should live every moment as our last..

  • I get goosebumps...

  • i ja:P

  • zajebiste , kurwa :D

  • @iTranceYouuu tez tak mysle :))

  • @iTranceYouuu spoko... :)

  • So ein geiler Song! Die Musik meiner Kindheit!

  • Over 20 years since Chernobyl....and still no superheros?? Go figure??......To soon?

  • While there are a lot of comments about nuclear war and the Cold War, this video is still more relevant today than that simply because it isn't about nuclear war, but nuclear power stations. The technicians at the start are very ominously similar to the technicians who inadvertently triggered the Chernobyl disaster. There was a BBC dramatic re-enactment of how the disaster started and it is too similar to this video for comfort. With nuclear power, war isn't necessary to destroy, only a glitch.

  • @J2124123 LAME

  • vertical Record players (2:13) I can't say that caught on did it? infact I can't say I had ever seen one other than in this video.

  • I was i my late teens in 1984. I remember the discussions about what we would do when they dropped the bomb. we discussed how we would be shore to get killed instantly by the blast. To day i sounds a bit funny because i didn't happen, but at the time it was very real. I live in Denmark and the iron curtin was like a 100 miles away. And it was very hard to get a job (sounds familiar to day)

The '80 was not all fun and games, but it has left us with some really great music!

  • @jespervad Agree dude, seems crazy lookin back and seeing how the world has changed since then, i've got to admit iam a lot more sinical towards, well , everything , since '84'. :)

  • awesome. chernobyl is nothing what is waiting for this world under the parasitic rule if the zombified masses don't wale up.

  • awesome.

  • 0:13 i have the same pencil... whooow :D

    great song (:

  • @toedlich666 80's is long gone but it's music was definitely better. You probably would've enjoyed it if you had lived back then, but remember...there was no internet or ipods or pc's, & very few only had apple macintosh. music was on vinyl & tape, no cd's even in 84. The cold war was still on, & WW3 was much closer than it is now, hmmm, i guess the cold war was much better than the idiocy of the terrorists.

  • This is my best-loved Ultravox song, though I think "Vienna" was a bigger hit in Europe. (This did well in North America.)

  • Great song, sick of those skidmark video intros

  • 114 people had tears in their eyes and missed the like button.

  • @eight6sevenfive3oh9 NO, they just didn't like this song. I love it. they didn't who cares.

  • @eight6sevenfive3oh9 More than 5000, despite the tears, didn' t miss it.

  • This guy Totally looks like Edward Norton..

  • @baud13 you mean edward norton looks like him. Midge ure is older & was famous long before ed norton.

  • Imádom!!!! <3

  • Cuando el mundo temía una Guerra Nuclear.

  • Check out Midge's house! 80s Ikea catalogue or what!

  • @mistofoles looks exactly like the Ikea catalogues of today to be honest..wood flooring with crappy fake pine furniture and a matress plonked on the floor..

  • ein tolles Lied.hör ich immer wieder gerne

  • this video was pre-Chernobyl...

  • @pix042 Just as well, they would have probably have refused to commission it if it was afterwards!

  • @pix042 shit, that was good :o

  • @pix042 so????

  • @pix042 two years before

maybe they had known that chernobyl will explode

  • @ChrisAFC11 Doubt it. During the eighties, the topic of nuclear war seemed to come up a lot. It was on the news frequently due to the arms build up under the Regean era. At one point I think there was enough fire power to destroy the world 100 times over. Consequently there were a lot of songs such as this about us all being nuked and tv progammes such as Threads and The Day After which scared the Bejesus out of us. To top it all many books were written about how to survive a nuclear attack.

  • @TimeTeam71

    and it came true

  • Cant believe that were gonna experience something like this very soon...But it is the very truth that in few months were gonna fce the WW3

  • @Pita38 Bullshit dude.

  • @Pita38 were you high when you wrote this

  • @Pita38

Don't say such things while everybody is asleep. It's better for them if they stay asleep.

  • @Pita38

There will be no more worldwars. The only thing I fear is a decline of civilization and a new rise of barbarism.

  • this is just great

  • ready for take off...gott stehe uns bei.

  • nice song, Tobia's cover is better though^^ \m/

  • lol pre-chernobyl era. a nuke plant is not a nuke bomb

  • @flaminglovestick

That is true and of course they are exaggerating here. But in some way a nuclear strike is even better than a nuclear meltdown, since you'll be killed instantaneously in the first case and gonna rot to death in the other case.

  • @VannevarBush Im sorry, you will not be killed instantaneously in a nuclear strike. Or at least, the majority of people wont be. In case of a large scale nuclear war, most victims would fall during the months after the bombardment, due to all sorts of scarcities: famine, disease, lack of fuel and shelter, social chaos, etc... and the spectre of radiation poisoning always closeby. You should see the movie Threads, a 1984 docudrama about nuclear holocaust, no doubt the inspiration for this clip

  • @Neurotrash1982

Okay that might be true. I d put it this way: If there is a nuclear strike the chance of being killed instantly is higher than in case of a nuclear meltdown.

Thanks for the info on the docudrama.. I ll look it up.

  • I love the passion in this song!

  • tbh idk why people think the 20th century sucks... :/ obviously the technology of today makes music different. and yes, the genre is changing but u cant say it sucks... u just prefer old music

  • @ernispel No........IT Sucks!!!!

  • Great song!

  • 80's the greatest era of all time...90's and 2k's sucks

  • @mlacika thank you for posting this musivid , hey, i just made up a new word!!!!! hey, everybody, that's MY word!!! but , really, thank you. shazam1059

  • The strange sounds in the beginning are from the film 'ALIEN'

  • odd how life seemed better when we were under threat of a nuclear war.....a common enemy. Now we just look in our own towns for someone to blame...

  • @bedfordcrusader If you have seen an episode of History channel, the first episode of a nuclear bomb, wont be deadly, but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th coming episode would be so deadly that 3/4 of the humans would be wipe out of planet earth. Now think about it.

  • thank god for sirius/xm

  • A classic from the 80´s!!!!!

  • Show, magnificent video, congratulations.

  • oh, i love this song. oh, god, please bring back the 80's! shazam1059

  • Take two...

Ke$ha's dancing with tears in my eyes (Noooo)

Ultravox's dancing with tears in my eyes (Yes of coz!!_

  • what a tune blast from the past this is what 80s music is about

  • What a neat little body Midge has got. Little men are much better in bed, smaller, lighter and more efficient. Who the hell wants a 6ft 1 fat heavy lump on top of them? Especially for a relatively small woman like me.

  • have you guys heard the Avantasia version? It's great too!

  • @brunoharris95 did you hear the freedom call cover

  • @twiligame o.o nope

  • @brunoharris95 it is great as well

  • @twiligame yes i did, its frikin good also gamma ray its a sin i guess you know it :)

  • @JariTibi I dont like gamma ray but derdian and Rhapsody of fire are awesome

  • @twiligame try vision divine take on me Aha cover, the singer is from rhapsody

  • epic!!!!

  • great song ever 80s had the best music.

  • Carolina Zorrilla, Sn Jn Argentina, te busco amiga del alma esta canción la ponía en nuestras chalras por el msn de los finales de 90s...no me olvides!

  • Surely one of the best from the 80's, it has all!!!

  • I'm 22 now. I wish I was 22 in 1984. 80-ties 4ever!

  • @catarinne88

You can't remember the feeling of 1984. This and other sad songs where the life style of this year. People really thought it will end with a nuclear burst soon. Not as happy as the fun generation of today think it was.

But yes the music was better - because we had to care about more then just love and money - we had to care for our (and mankinds) survival.

  • @llothar68 I would say that our generation (80's), lived life to the fullest because of the Cold War threat. That is why the youth of the day was a happy one and it precisely the brilliant music produced during that decade that brought so much fulfillment and good vibes to our young lives.

  • Remeber 1986...

  • Lament... One of my first LP´s on vinyl... What times that was - what memories it brings back. 100% nostalgy
