the composer of "Ave maris stella" is Guillaume Dufay. He was born in the north of France near modern Belgium, a region that supplied the whole of Eruope with musicians for many generations. He worked in Italy for over 25 years. it is a homophonic setting of a Gregorian hymn, on of the most tuneful of plainchant genres.
I love this song! It's was quite difficult to get the timing right with the choir I was in, we worked our socks off with it but well worth it... Just one of those songs you remember :) x
When will YouTubers learn that the most important thing when posting a video of music is to list the composer's name? :-P Who wrote this? It's fantastic, far better than the uninspired Grieg setting my choir's working on right now.
@TheRealmsOfGold This piece was originally done by Guillaume Dufay. He was a composer in the mid to late 1400's and used a form of Gregorian chant with organum to compose the original. It has been used multiple times in different variations through out history.
@hayleybell2008 This is surely not Dufay's setting, though. This sounds like it was written in the late twentieth century. Who composed the piece being sung by the choir in the video? Thanks :-)
ave maris stella significa AVE (saludo= hola) ESTRELLA DEL MAR, esta pieza es de los siglos VIII o XIX. De ella proviene el nombre de la oración AVE MARIA
I had to hear this again, I'm an amateur but I have beeb singing in a choir about 20 years. This piece is extremely difficult, whatever it is (something from 19th century?)! This piece of music could have been disintegrated so many times, but it did not! Thanks for sharing this!
It was hard. Another choir I'm in (not this one) did the piece for a competition. It took us AGES to get it as right as we could and we were all moaning about how hard it was.
Was composed by the hungarian composer Vajda János. It"s really difficult to sing clearly, congrats.

Don't like modern compositions, but I must admit the choir is fantastic.
