the Israelis acknowledged the mistake within hours, apologised and eventually paid full reparations. The incident is still studied today at US Naval College as a textbook example of 'friendly fire'. Consider that the UK had more troops killed by US friendly fire in the 1991 Gulf War than died in contact with the Iraqis.

the USS Liberty ship wasn't lost. 'Lost' is when your ship sinks. That one made it afloat to port and got repaired and saw service again.

what a load of total nonsense. The war was almost over and into it's fifth day. Israel made absolutely no attempt to blame anybody else at all and admitted their mistake to the US within minutes. Perhaps you'd better think of another motive for Israel to want to attack the vessel, because that one certainly won't wash.

Just as they attempted to do with the Lavon affair, which by the way the perpetrators are to this day celebrated as heroes in Israel. Also, the Sept. 11th attacks have many doubt's as to what the real circumstances are. I have to say, I hold some of my own.

If NK wants to improve relations with the USG it ought to show intent by releasing USS PUEBLO. I would like to see the USS PUEBLO docked next to USS MIDWAY in SAN DIEGO as a memorial to the crew of the USS PUEBLO and others who undertake covert missions on behalf of the USG.
