  • 14.50 metres without bowtrust bullcrap, that is how i do. even alone Without a second hand helper. jup wind or no wind.

  • The guy in the stern should stand on foredeck with a line. Rigging it to the key so the skipper only had to go ahead with either port or sb engine. A ship or a yacht aint better than the worst crewman. :)

  • chicken of the sea got a job huh?

  • Yapz... Without that bow thruster, you would'nt be so cocky!

Only pussys have bow thruster on a small boat. ;o)

  • What's the big deal, I could do that in my sleep.

  • Is this the same skipper that placed that cruise ship on the reef?

  • i thought the sign said "ass facilities"

  • haha this guy is a moron :))

  • Come On! Friggin bow thruster, and this is a good job? What's to panick about? Ridiculous.

  • Who cares...it's a very ugly boat anyway.

  • Good job putting the bumpers on the port side dummy.

  • unbeliveble. even with a bowthruster he cant keep her steady. thank god i dont meet many like him here in Norway. we know how to handle our boats. he should buy an rv instead.

  • It might not look windy on the video but trust me it was, the clip doesn't do it justice. More importantly the guy driving the boat wasn't that experienced and neither was the chap on the stern, hence our comment that the guy did the right thing by not panicking, unlike a lot of the incidents and damage we've witnessed in the lock. This was simply is a misunderstanding of the elements by the skipper. I hope this clears up a few things for you out there. Thank you all for watching.

  • Please believe me when I say the boat was single engined with a duo prop, and sorry to disappoint some of you, but it did have a bow thruster; not that they are much good if you get caught beam on, which would probably also cause a lot of debate so let's no go there lol

The area the video was shot is Port Solent so well done the person who spotted that. For info Port Solent is renown for the wind catching boats out, experienced skippers and novices alike.

  • Blimey, I've just looked at some of the comments from this video we posted, looks like it has caused a bit of a debate.

Considering we were videoing it and being Ex Royal Navy as well as an RYA Training Centre I like to think we might be able to help clarify a few things. I will post a few paragraphs due to being limited on text so please follow the thread.

  • Those who say 'no bow thruster'.......please dont comment unless you actually know. I suggest you FF to 1:55. We accept your apology in advance.

  • how can you even say that? this boat obiously has bow thrusters!

  • New title for video: Squirming in Southampton

  • Why didn't someone just put bow and stern ropes around those bollards? That skipper didn't know what he was doing and neither did his crew.

  • Boat driver was doing alright, he had a prick for a deckhand. Instead of dishing out instructions he should shut up and just grabbed a rope! And been up on the bow where he should be!!

  • This boat has Bow Thrusters. Im pretty sure that wasn't wind that captin just doesnt quite know how to use bow thrusters.

  • is this port solent ?

  • ya whoever said this dosen't...is either an idiot or didn't watch the whole video...clearly, he used it 2 times in the end and a few times in the beginning smashing his right side into the wall in the first few seconds...look, observe, then make comment...

  • That guy doesn't deserve a boat that nice. Go back to a Kayak sir.

  • you have to learn some how

  • rc boats is better for him

  • what a loser......

a 28 ft bavaria with a bowthruster and peole act like this......it's a shame....you can do this with one hand eyes closed and 2 fingers in the nose....start boating by buying a boat with 2 peddles.....

  • that's not a bow thruster

  • @Pigeon1888 Of course it is.

  • @hughc178 most certainly not

  • bow thruster ? simple as that foward only on the thottles and us the thruster to push the front around ? and for this guy ? put out another dozen or so boat bumpers hes going to need them or a good fiberglass man lol

  • 2:09 you can hear and see the bow thrust... he lost control ..simple as that

  • the boat has NOT got bow thrustres

  • @Pigeon1888 At 02:05 the guy ashore issues the command "bow thrusted" followed by a short spurt of bow thruster (notice the wash on starboard bow). The only other alternative to his bow suddenly turning to port after 02:05 would be if the guy was in reverse with a left-handed prop (rare, and that is assuming the boat really does only have one engine), in which case the boat should have accelerated noticably aft - this still wouldn't explain the wash on starboard bow.

  • @Pigeon1888 Ok, so at 0:28 under the bow, it's just some bubbles appearing from nowhere combined with the sound of a fucking BOWTHRUSTER.

  • @Pigeon1888 1:57 BOW FUCKING THRUSTER

  • @hannespalmis no way jose, i know all about bow thrusters and this vessel is not equipped with one.

  • @Pigeon1888 umm...yes they do.

  • @dragoncustomcycles no, trust me

  • @Pigeon1888 dude. you can see it...and hear it. that isnt prop wash shooting out 90* to the boat. its a bow thruster. most new single motor boats of this size have a bow truster.

  • @Pigeon1888 Then you obviously know nothing about bow thrusters!

  • @miles19621 I know more about vessels/thrusters than all you landlovers put together. Trust me I know.

  • @Pigeon1888 No you don't because you didn't recognise that this boat has a bow thruster. I live on a boat.

  • @miles19621 You live on a boat? Who cares. Still doesn't take away from the fact that there is no way on God's earth that the vessel in the video IS NOT equipped with bow thrusters. Buy a house you loser.....

  • @Pigeon1888 If you can't see that boat has a bow thruster you are an idiot and you know nothing about boats at all. Anyone can see it is equipped with a BT. You are a total tosser!

  • @miles19621 Why are you people so ridiculously stupid? There is no bow thruster on the vessel. No, no, no, no, no, no....muppets!

  • @Pigeon1888 You're the ridiculously stupid muppet here. Of course it has a bow thruster - anyone who knows anything about boats can see it clearly.

  • @miles19621 I know just about everything there is to know about vessels/thrusters. I lost a foot at sea, 4 years ago. I know if a vessel has bow thrusters and this one hasn't, matter closed.

  • @Pigeon1888 Matter not closed. I'm sorry to hear about your foot, but what's that got to do with anything? My own boat has a bow thruster so I also know whether a vessel has a bow thruster, and this one most definitely has. Anyway, how on earth would you know if it hadn't got a BT? Can you see below the waterline in this video? After around 02:05 we can quite clearly see the spurt of bow thruster on starboard bow running 90 degrees to the boat. If it's not a BT how do you explain it?

  • @miles19621 Definitely no bow thruster, i have further examined the video and have now become even more sure that I am correct in my observation. Sorry guys, but you are all incorrect. Have a wonderful afternoon.

  • @Pigeon1888 You're completely wrong. You never answered my questions: How can you see under the waterline to see there is no BT, and how do you explain the spurt of water perpendicular to the boat after 2.05? You can't answer because you probably don't even know what a bow thruster is!

  • @miles19621 Matter closed, no bow thruster. I need to dress my stump and have no time for any more of your games.

  • @Pigeon1888 No games from me, I'm just expressing an opinion the same as you. Nobody is forcing you to reply. I happen to think you're completely wrong as does the majority of opinion here.

  • @miles19621 It's not up to you to tell me that the matter is closed - it's not as far as I am concerned. I will express my views and if you don't want to that's up to you. There's certainly a bow thruster on that boat. You haven't answered my questions because you cant. That shows that you're wrong.

  • @Pigeon1888 Also the term is landlubbers, not landlovers!

  • @miles19621 My apologies Long John Silver, shiver me fucking timbers....

  • @Pigeon1888 Yes it does dumbass.

  • @YourNemesis40 Definitely not, trust me I know.

  • the boat is equipped with a bowthruster.

The guy operating it is like a cow with a cup of tea.

  • i personally think he did a horrible job......

  • @csolsten your opion even wit bow thrusters wind causes problems with boats all the time. with a single engine with power diverted to thruster he did a very nice job t keep control of is vessel.

  • With a bowthruster (as this boat has) even my grandma could manouver a boat

  • forward spring line should be the first line cast ashore. secure that then hard over in forward gear, stern will walk right in to place.

  • single engine... But bow thrusters!
