This in all fairness is better than anything any Hollywood producer could make, because this is made by a true fan of the War of the Worlds, who actually got off his ass, unlike Spielberg and made a fantastic effort to entertain us punters! Congratulations, you've made another War of the Worlds fan satisfied, unlike Spielberg, who pissed a lot of us off!
3:19 That's where the Radio 1 studios are in the road where the red weed is growing is the entrance to Radio 1. :o) Just wanted to point that out. :oD
@Richard K, when even you comment that "this is not the most exciting of chapters", I must speak.
In terms of the lack of sex, car chases and gratuitous violence..., you are correct.
However, this chapter, more than any other, is central to the concept of a War Of Worlds.
This was never about Martians vs Earthlings... it was always about two planets. The Red Weed is the encroachment of one planet by another which is how and why the Martians eventually died. The planet is more important than we!
It may not be the most exciting of chapters as described, but this is still an amazing piece of work. Nothing boring about it at all. I've been a fan of this story and album for over 30 years and although I appreciate Spielberg's version which is quite entertaining in it's own way, you can't beat the original HG Wells story.
I would like to know or may be i already missed out what does Jeffery think of this, as it rocks , Steve had no right to put the name WOTW to his movie as it wasnt
Amazing I got this on cassette tape back in 1985, I always wondered if someone was ever going to produce it. After suffering through that one with Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning, with her constant screaming. This was very refreshing indeed. The Thunderchild was very well done can't wait for the finished product. Who is going to play the parson?
Autumn 2009? Its winter now. But i shouldn't rush you since it is a piece of great work. This part was pretty boring though, no action and no interesting story :P
Well i dont know about anyone else but i for one am glad u aint rushing this its showing in the quality of your work, considering you have a budget of zero and your doing it in your spare time its amazing, the first minute reminds me a lot of threads fantastic work keep it up :) 5/5
Beautiful and haunting. This is the way a War of the Worlds adaptation should be. I love the addition of the howling wind, it really adds the to the sense of loneliness.
you are amazing, i have been watching your vidios all afternoon, you sure know how to brighten homework up whick program are you using and also can i say that you are way better than any film made and anything i know, but id like to see more news reprots they are awesome, how do you make them?
i love this its so brilliant. you should be on tv i would watch paint dry if youd made it half as exciting as this. cant wait for the next part please make it soon. its awe inspiring more more more please
This work is truly amazing and is an example of the video content I crave. I will not find it going to the movies. Thanks for showing what is possible. The web is the future of truly creative video content.
I only just found out about this video series when I was searching youtube for the Jeff Wayne version... I have to say you are doing an absolutely magnificent job with these videos! I subscribed, and I gave you 5 stars... I wish I could give you 50! Keep up the great work!
OMG you made it...so dark, I like it, even though it is much darker than the original Jeff Wayne version. especially the 'intro' it is just pure evil... 5 stars! I am looking forward to the rest, cant wait! (yes I can, I am patient, but you know what I mean ;)) Nice Job, for all your parts!
i searched the internet and i found the album with all the songs, and after some more searching the game, but this is just so much better then all that .
so i think i speak for all if i say keep up the good work!
This is good, I think you should of stuck more to the images of dead people and the like though, red grass swaying infront of bright buildings didn't look good. And the road sign was excellent... maybe you could of had more ruined building images? Anyway just ideas that might help with dead london for the future. Excellent work as always, keep it up.
I was working at a small radio station in 78 and found this album as I was going through records and fell in love with it. The station gave it to me as it was promo they didnt care about and I played it everywhere and at parties and everyone was wow, where did you get that? I never dreamed it would be put to such great videos,a million kudos.
This is good stuff Richard, you have serious talent, can't begin to think how you put all this together but I am enjoying watching your work. Can't wait to see the rest, keep up the excellent work and I hope it gets noticed.
This is very well done. He goes to show large scale FX never will carry a film. it's story. He has stuck to Well's idea to the tee. You can easily feel like you are watching a real news broadcast. Keep up the great work.
its great you made it the red weed really creepey,. when i was little and i heard of the red weed i was scared of it. just the thought of martians picking you up and sucking your blood out and tearing your flesh off scared me.
excellent adaptation , the best rendition I have seen and heard. Please have more spare time. Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to the next part. Andy
Well done! You have captured the way Jeff Wayne probably visualised it at the start. This is 1000% better than what the Americans did, as they never kept to the story. If the next lot are as good as the first lot, which I have no doubt that they will be, you should put it on to DVD it is that good!! I have loved War Of The Worlds all my life and this is the best adaptation that I have ever seen.
I think this is just genious and I bet you dont have millions to spend,.unlike a certain director in Hollywood.,money is not everything, thank you for your time and effort... Looking forward to the next chapter...
i especially loved the Thunderchild sequence in part five, always loved that part in the original and you did an amazing job with what i believe a quite moving scene - the last stand of Man
Excellent work Richard, outstanding watched 1 -6 and now must go cold turkey until rest is finished. great feel to your film. you've done credit to the soundtrack!
I just discovered your film homage to "The War of The Worlds." You've created a wonderful video tribute to both H.G. Wells and Jeff Wayne's visions of the story. I watched Parts 1 thru 6 back to back. Stop apologizing for your efforts! I've enjoyed all of it. Thank you, Richard! I am really looking forward to your next episode.
I have just simultaneously watched all of the parts you have made so far and WOW! These are really great, you have done an absolutely superb job on this project. This right here is twenty times better than Spielberg's modern version. Keep up the good work!
I think they are better than the film with that short actor in it, you know the one I mean. Tom Cruise. I did not like that film at all, no real feel of terror which of course there would be if your planet was being consumed by aliens! All toooooooo hollywood for me.

Wow!!! I looked for this tonight and found the 1st part by someone else and have just sat through parts 2 to 6 of yours. That was fantastic. Looking forward to the next part. Brilliant well done. I have the digitally remastered CD version and seeing this in film just made it even better. Thank you very much, will have to watch again.....
superb work mate left dieing to see next part hope it soon but i guess best things come to those who wait , iam waiting hehe i been wait 20 years to see this music brought to life the way it should be ty 10/10
This is amazing. A fantastic piece of work. This needs to be put onto DVD I love it so much. I have wanted to make a vid for this musical and u have completed my dream. You have done such a good job. I work in west byfleet so cool to see my area in the films. Could not ask for a better making of this. You could do well with this mate.
Unbelievable! Just discovered this today and I'm kicking myself. All this done on zero budget?! I've never been sucked into a so called "Hollywood Blockbuster" as much as I have by this. Thank you Richard.
Excellent!!! You really have done this great piece of music justice, I hope Mr Wayne has viewed this too!! Also, I would love to buy a copy of the finished product, can't wait for The Spirit of Man, good job, well done again
After the wait, i am still not dissapointed. I think you have nailed it, i wasnt sure you would be able to do 'red weed' justice, but i think you captured the feel amazingly. I like the look you gave the red weed itself, you could almost 'feel' the life. Anyway, keep it up, i cant wait for the next video!
I also was expecting for the feeling of the crawling weed and not the blooming grass feel, but never the less you sure have the gift. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORT MAKING THIS!! "SPIRIT OF MAN" WOULD BE GREAT, ISN'T IT?
its ok i thought is was ment to be red weed not grass..? thats the only good thing in the tom cruise film the rest is pants.. but there is a good feel in you vid keep it up
I'm going to see the live stage show at the O2 this Saturday evening and I can say that the standard of these video's would be up with what they show on the big screen while the music is being played live....It really is that good! already looking forward to your take on The Spirit of Man, it's one of my favorite parts! Keep up the good work mate! lots of people here on You Tube are enjoying this! :)
Just come across the set of shorts you've made for this and I have to say, this has been one of my favorite pieces of literature and also my favorite albums since i was about 2 years old (I'm 27 now) and sir, you've done this a great justice with some seriously fine work. Keep it up, Subscribed and waiting with baited breath for the next part!
another great post,,told my 11year old that the next part had been posted, he rushed home from school to watch it. A great many thanks for posting this and i hope this hobby (?) gets you a very well paid job, you deserve it,,,,cheers paul
Well Done! Yet another triumph! This beautifully reflects one of the more hypnotic sections of the album with it's firey swaying red weed and is peppered with some brilliantly chosen London landmarks. The inclusion of the cylinder flying in overhead and the sombre fighting machines is well chosen and the cliff-hanger ending just fantastic! Keep up this exceptional work - we all love it!
I have been waiting for this for weeks and once again I am not left disappointed.
If I have one criticism it would be that too much of the introduction and start was silent. Perhaps a News Bulletin dialogue or National Statement could have broken it up a little. You know like resistance pockets, propaganda and such.
However, I cannot wait for the next one to be released.
Keep up the good work and if there was ever a means for small film makers to get recognition you SHOULD be nominated.
Aww come on!! Why'd you have to go and leave it at that cliffhanger :P? You've been doing one hell of a job with this considering you have no budget. One thing's for sure, you have something to put in your portfolio to show what you can accomplish with limited material and one hell of an imagination. Again, keep up the awesome work and hope your work gets recognized.
This is by far the best representation of the book I have ever seen the graphics are pretty well done. My great great uncle would have wanted to see this since it was his book.
Dude I like what you did with the war of the worlds I'm a direct ancestor of Wells himself he would have liked to have seen this. This is by far the best representation of my great great uncles work Ive seen better than the crappy 2005 and 1953 versions anyway.
This would be a hard one to do no matter who did it. It's excellent however. It just goes to show the frustration of our planet giving way to the martians. Excellent however. Maybe not exciting but once again it fits with the story.
wow just watched all six only found your site went to the live show recently but would pay double to see ur version my hat comes off to you u have a talent that should be recognised if you can do this at home with no budget (well 70p but hey who's counting) cant wait for chapter 7 keep it coming
All six parts so far have been bloody outstanding and setting it in modern day Britain is genius. I'm desperate for part 7 and the whole package complete in one DVD now. Great work Richard and please DO give up your day job, and produce more work like this.
When we buy it on DVD??
100% Brilliant work

Exquisite, as usual.
Rich, the feel isn't supposed to be 'exciting' - you caught the feel - somber, defeated, creepy-crawly.
Great job!!!!
Thank you very much.
Can I buy a copy when it's complete?

After alot of experimenting I settled for the 'evil corn ' effect . On my budget and time it was the most effective alternative.

I think Mr Wayne and Mr Wells would give you the greatest respect as we all do. Great story telling Richard a real work of art thankyou.

Hope his work gets reconized also.
hsjames1 2 years ago
Aww come on!! Why'd you have to go and leave it at that cliffhanger :P? You've been doing one hell of a job with this considering you have no budget. One thing's for sure, you have something to put in your portfolio to show what you can accomplish with limited material and one hell of an imagination. Again, keep up the awesome work and hope your work gets recognized.

This is by far the best representation of the book I have ever seen the graphics are pretty well done. My great great uncle would have wanted to see this since it was his book.
titan6524 2 years ago
Dude I like what you did with the war of the worlds I'm a direct ancestor of Wells himself he would have liked to have seen this. This is by far the best representation of my great great uncles work Ive seen better than the crappy 2005 and 1953 versions anyway.
titan6524 2 years ago
How can you be an ancestor of Wells?, you must be way over 200 years old!, he was born in 1866!
Unless you mean DESCENDANT! its a pity you didn't inherit Well's skill with words.
And anyway, we can all be whoever we like on the internet cant we!
I myself am a direct descendant of Isaac Newton, Julius Caesar and Edmund Blackadder.

This would be a hard one to do no matter who did it. It's excellent however. It just goes to show the frustration of our planet giving way to the martians. Excellent however. Maybe not exciting but once again it fits with the story.
