dats a very talented man but reason need to get a tape stop effect cus i use var-fi (dats pro-tools tape stop) and it take literally 5 secs vs. 5 minutes..reason gotta step it up on the fx and get plug-ins in reason 7
I've also gathered several combinator patches do produce a similar tape stop effect using the DDL-1 or The Echo inside a combinator (these are all listed in this PropHead forum thread: The "Tape Stop" / "Vinyl Stop" Thread ). The cool thing with these patches is you don't have to sample the audio to get the effect.
am i the only 1 than cant hear anything on my NN-XT ..i did everything but when i play back i can't hear anything and there's no signal from my mixer either
@1BlendaTV hey make sure you have it routed to the mixer if i think you dont which is why you mixer is not getting a signal either if you dont know whow to do so let me know i'll make a quick tutorial for it =)
@1BlendaTV the quick answer would be to follow this link copyright.gov it'll take you through the steps of what you need to do to get copyrights to your material. let me know if this helps
@1BlendaTV once again thanks for the reply. i've out this site in the past but the difficulty is, is that i'm from the UK so it wont be suitable for me....any other suggestions
Thank you so much. . . .but please do us a big favor. . . .Give Reason 7 a MIDI CONTROLLED affects rack similar to Image Line's Gross Beat, or iZotopes Stutter Edit
Surely the sampled loop will sound different to the original track as it is going through the Master Suite again?? Perhaps it should be sampled with the mastering suite combination on bypass
There are things that can be done in Reason within moments that take long periods of time in other DAWs as well. Also, it should be noted that Reason has different instruments than other DAWs without having to rely on VSTs that break down or bog down your CPU. There are pluses and negatives to all programs. I love Reason, always have, always will. I guess that puts me in the same league as many other professional producers.
Thanks James! This is awesome. I even figured out how to make the beginning of a record effect. The pitch bend just has to be in the opposite direction. Awesome man!
Thanks, James! I used this yesterday to great effect in a Neo Soul song. This is exactly the type of practical tip I can use in my music. (Of course, people who have never worked with tape probably don't know the sound . . . .)
nice but you can do it with in much less time with a vst hoast with the plugin effectrix or dblue glitch since i use reason for a rewire slave anyway that works
I use those VST effects as well and agree they sound great.. this is a series of videos on how to do things with Reason and Record and not with VSTs or any other software.
nice idea james. never tried bouncing stuff down and mangling it like that, not in reason anyway. this has got me thinking if you could do the same thing by feeding the signal into a delay then adjusting the time using a envelope or something. might have to have a fiddle. word.
If I was to use this method, I'd put the NN-XT in a Combi as the last thing in the signal chain for two reasons:
1) so the mastering effects don't get applied twice.
2) so you can crossfade over to the wet sound and actually have the dry sound playing alongside.
I actually played around and managed to create this effect "live" using DDL-1s. However, for a number of reasons, this is much more difficult to get right and requires more thought, but I'll send you a mail about it in a while.
Agreed about the mastering.. I would probably do the export with the mastering disabled if it is that critical.. but since it's just a quick effect.. I don't think it really matters *that* much in the end.
The DDL-1 method is fun to use live (and I have done this many times).. but as you say.. requires much more practice.. this method is quick and easy in comparison.
@jamesbernardmusic I don't just mean live as in used live on stage, but live as in, you don't have to re-export the sound for every change you make. :)
Agreed.. the tricky part for most is figuring out the milliseconds for the proper loop type.. since using the Step/Unit mode of the DDL-1 would not give you the sound you are looking for.
You have to use the formula of 60000 divided by the tempo to give you quarter notes and then multiply by 2 for half notes.. etc.
@Gameboygenius: you could get around the whole mastering effects being applied twice by disabling them in the signal chain prior to exporting the loop for use in the NNXT. Simple!
Is it me or does this sound WAY better than speed fades in Logic? I've done those but they don't sound like a record spinning down because you can really hear the aliasing of the time stretch. And with this method the time-stretch seems to happen as a natural result of pitching the sample... which makes more sense. Very cool tip!
