I've met a guy once, who knew my friend, that said there were this guy, who chatted with a girl, who's farther's co. worker's son, had downloaded over 500TB a year, and they saw the movies home instead of using the theater, used the songs he downloaded in his car, even at the disco he shared them.. all the programs he shared with his friends, and the saved thousands of thousands of dollars a year.... damn.. wish i could find out of downloading like that.. but i can't sadly.. o.0
It is not against the law to download or upload copyrighted material. You just have to take it down if asked. You can be sued if you made a profit off what you uploaded but most media companies are not going to waste the time and money.
People just need to stop and think for a second. Megaupload had 180 million registered users (with countless more unregistered). That's a huge number of people to be thrown in jail, there is no way America could even begin to support the increased prison population. And secondly, do you thing Megaupload really kept EVERY IP address since 2005? For some reason, I highly doubt that they'd waste the space keeping tabs on everyone that has ever used the site
"The Justice Department said it was illegal for anyone to download pirated content, but their investigation focused on the leaders of the company, not end users who may have downloaded a few movies for personal viewing. "
Dude thank you so much, you calmed me down a lot, i was freaking out and like shaking with fear, but (hypothetically speaking...) if someone had downloaded like just maybe the elder scrolls 4 oblivion, or an old game like that once, r they in trouble?
@rayleekaylee Think about this, you are one of 500 million+ people that have downloaded music illegally. The odds of anything ever happening to you are slim to none. The people that should worry are the owners of the sites, programs, whatever, that people download shit off of, and the people that upload massive amounts of copywrited material. Dont worry, I strongly believe you wont be arrested. What you should worry about is the government changing the face of the internet.
@rayleekaylee no..... under ACTA.... every sever will be checked..... they will find you... will you be sent to jail, probably not.... theyll have plenty of people to arrest befor you :)
He didnt even mention the illuminati! what the fuck are you on man? its like calling obama a communist when the poor guy was just introducing a different system.
the other guy had links, facts, statistics, proof. whats your proof they wont prosecute? so what if its the law? that doesnt make it justified and right. Its people like you who just sit idly by and let laws and shit like this happen. Im not saying panic, im saying do something about it other than be lazy as shit telling everyone to calm down.
@b3nfreakinwallace Firstly, fuck off. Secondly, did you even watch the video? I said, numerous times, SOPA and PIPA need to be fought. This video is for all the people that are shitting themselves and thinking about throwing their computers into the nearest river. And again, the facts? This is a simple response to a video, not a documentary. Go to the original for the facts, thats the whole point. The Illuminati shit I was talking about was a joke, lighten up.
so what are your explanations for the single mom who got hit with 1.5 million $ for downloading couple songs ?
and yes if you are their lottery winner u will get arrested and believe me you will be num 1 subject in the news , it's all about their private lottery :D
@mraissam1997 She was probably using a more personal p2p sharing service that rooted her out, that's probably why. Things like KAZAA, for example. Remember the blow out with Napster? Yeeeeeeeah. Trust me, when the VCR came out, they had a shit-fit over that as well because it could record movies and music-videos off the damn TV...
@mraissam1997 Just watch what you do and I'm sure things will be fine. Dynamic IP addresses also make it a tad hard to track people. By the way; they also are ordering that all the information OF the Users be destroyed in the MEGAUPLAOD case, when they only copied down some of the servers information. Not all, but only using some in order to use it against KIM in his case.
ok what if someone uploads like 90 songs? but just wants to use it for themselves like only using the links for themselves just incase they want to redownload it on another computer?
@MrHahapwnt I would say that its time to move to Africa :P
Honestly though, I wouldnt worry about it too much. Most likely nothing will happen. However, it wouldnt be a bad idea to cover your tracks, get rid of the computer, get a proxy, whatever you have to do. You can probably find guides online. But like I said man, dont worry about it too much. Those poor bastards that have gotten arrested over it are just unlucky SOB's that the government decided to make an exapmle of.
This is very true, I can't see them going after the people who occasionally use a free file sharing service on the odd occasion but if you are one of the ones whom are very frequently uploading and downloading VOLUMES of content, then they are at a higher risk.
The former top comment on Mike´s original video was from some Greek dude who downloaded 500 movies from Megaupload (not me btw) is he in trouble?
