It seems to me that Prince Adam's clothing colors are more an attempt to give contrast to He-man. Pretty much his entire color palette changes. His hair gets darker, skin tanned, and we lose pinks and baby blues for deeper reds and oranges. Considering his appearance doesn't otherwise change it's kind of cool way to make him really pop off the screen and is something that reads easily to young kids.
