  • he lost this race because he wasnt all juiced up like he had been to all his prior races.if you remember they made such a big deal in the weeks leading up to the belmont about dutrow jucing his horses up.and i dont want to hear about the races he won after this race because im sure dutrow juiced him back up.dutrow is 1 of the biggest cheaters in the game which almost lead him to a lifetime ban earlier this year where they said he had at least 60 infractions in the past few years.

  • no horse will ever win the Triple Crown again.

  • this announcer was amusing :)

  • Looking back on this race, I'm still undecided if it was actually Big Brown or Kent Desormeaux that just didn't want to put forth the effort in the Belmont Stakes on the day? What's ironic is that of the three Triple Crown field's that Big Brown faced in 08', the Belmont was the weakest field of the 3, IMO. If Big Brown had run like he did in the Derby and Preakness in this race? He would've run Da'Tara off his feet. Smarty Jones should've won the T.C. in 04', Big Brown in 08'. JMO.

  • @GBeret83 I agree completely... And then this year was just another triple crown thrown away... I thought fkr sure with 200 yards that animal kingdom would win... If Uncle Mo was healthy and ran in the derby i really thought he would have had a shot at the TC this year.

  • Curlin would have won this race. and kent like borel at the preakness simply just blew it.

  • From ESPN.com June 5, 2008 - "In early May, Dutrow acknowledged in the New York Daily News that he gives every horse in his stable an injection of Winstrol on the 15th of each month, but not if the horse was not in training." Winstrol is the commercial name of the then permitted anabolic steroid stanozolol. Mr. Dutrow claimed Big Brown was last given the drug on April 15th. Stanozolol is considered effective for recovery from training.

  • He should had finish the race...

  • Dutrw couldnt get BB the juice, instead he had to race on the square. Friggin cheater.

  • Watching Big Brown crumble like the juiced up Colt he was, makes me even ANGRIER over the death of Eight Belles, who should have won that Derby before her demise. RIP Sweet Belle.

  • The Future Star Alan ( Attorney General ) Garcia, This Jockey Is A Real Good Rider

  • This horse made my day. I didn't know anything about horseracing either lol!

  • kent was drunk

  • @vvssitic are you fucking stupid

  • I've always concentrated on Big Brown there, but that was one heck of a performance by Da'Tara.

  • @ewd76 Yeah it was. Da'Tara was moving like a train the whole time.

  • LOST MY ASS ON THIS, THANKS TO THE BIG FIX!! PLAIN TO SEE!!

  • I thought football fans were vicious Monday morning quarterbacks, till I saw some of the remarks about Kent Desormeaux. Can you imagine if he'd push Big Brown and another tragedy like Eight Belles had occurred? "Desormeaux runs horse to death ....."

  • He was ranked cause Kent drove BB up Datara's azz....So it was a bad drive!!!!

  • I'm shocked by the number of people who are blaming Kent for this performance. By the time he pulled up Big Brown, he was about to be passed by every horse in the field and he wasn't going to finish anywhere but last.

The bigger concern is that Big Brown looks uncomfortable and rank early. He was clearly not himself on this day and it showed up in his performance.

  • If Big Brown had won, "Desormeaux waits" would have been up there with "moving like a tremendous machine" as TC calls go.

  • Worst ride ever? dont believe the hype, the horse didnt seem to be at his very best. Think about the two giant efforts he turned in before the belmont. In the belmont he just didnt have another big effort.

  • it also marked 45 days since his last steroid injection from Dutrow. Who took the horse off roids after April 15th due to criticism.

  • Let's get real here folks. Da Tara was a decent horse who got away with easy fractions against a bad crop of 3 year olds, save Big Brown, who just didn't have it that day. Kent caught flak for not trying to ride him out but I think he sensed it and never pushed him. If you look at BB's Haskell win later I think it indicates the horse had some physical ailments as that victory was not impressive at all.

  • funny how his ky derby was the fastest in the 21st century w/ the exception of Barbaro so he really sucks

  • Sounds like you're a $2,000 maiden claimer!

  • Big Brown did win the first two legs of the triple crown. You do know that right? It was a weak year for three year olds though. I will give you that.

  • you know what? why don't you race him? i know he's retired, but even with a bad foot, he could beat you no doubt!

  • no offense buddy, but if you know nothing about racing,, (which i assume from the comment you just made),,,, then dont say anything at all

and i don't need to explain myself, i'm sure anyone who knows about racing will understand where im coming from

Agree, i'v been watching racing for a long time, its all in the breeding of the horse. some horses have there bad days like track runners (such as i) have bad days too.

  • The annuncer said Tail of Etaki. lol

  • Tale of EKATI dumb ass

  • Huge conspiracy, just like they kill horses for insurance money, they can also make them lose. Since he was the obvious favorite, everyone else was betting on him, a few betted millions on Da'Tara and made Big Brown lose. It's kinda like a pool hustler. In this case it's horse racing hustlers. Big Brown had it, he was in 3 place with half a mile to go. He won every other race except this one. I smell something fishy!

  • no offense buddy, but if you know nothing about racing,, (which i assume from the comment you just made),,,, then dont say anything at all

and i don't need to explain myself, i'm sure anyone who knows about racing will understand where im coming from

  • oh sorry for picking on you sehoujay, your comment was the first i saw,, but i went down trhough all of the comments and it seems nobody here knows about racing hahahaha

so my first comment goes to everyone here, because NONE OF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT RACING so better off not talking about it

  • Apology Accepted!

  • big brown without steroids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who was gonna make money anyway at 1/4!

  • It is very funny how people who have never ridden a horse can yap about a horrible ride. You people can't even recognize it was the HORSE who was rank and Kent was doing everything possible to get him to come back to him. Don't even try to tell me you have rode a racehorse, because if you did you would know exactly what I am talking about when it comes to a RANK horse!! LOL!!!!!!!!

  • Very well put!!

  • If Big Brown wins the stewards have to look at the first turn when big brown make a quick right turn and kills Anak Nakal chances.. but i dont think any steward would take him down tho

  • horrible ride by Desormeaux

  • No sir. He had nothing to do with that loss at all. Horrible comment by you actually. Kent got his this year. Summer Bird.

  • Your nuts- Kent D. worst ride I ever saw with Big Brown but I'm glad- I hit the tri becuase I knew Kent D, would choke.

  • Yeah just like he choked this year on Summer Bird huh? Big Brown had nothing for this ride and there was nothing KD could do. Big Brown was fatigued and didn't get his usual shot of steroids. I want you to tell me in detail what you so are sure was wrong with his ride.

  • Big Brown never had a chance in this race because of Kent D. First, he took him out for the lead when this horse never went to the front in any of his previous races. Second, he almost clipped heels with Da Tara and fell. Third, he got hemmed in on the rail at the 1st turn where he had to pull him up. If he had rode this horse like he did Summer Bird, Big Brown would have won. Terrible ride, face it-

  • Watch the derby Kent took him right to nearly the front in the derby when he started from the 20 post! The pace in this race was not fast at all so what's your point. He sat behind Da'Tara and Anak Nakal two horses he should have had no problem sitting behind. He was just rank as could be and he had a 1/4 crack and 3 racesin six weeks was just too much. There's a reason why there hasn't been a triple crown in over 30 years now! It is tough to do in case you haven't noticed.

  • I just went back and watched the 2008 Derby. Big Brown (with that choke loser Kent D.) was fifth/ sixth (well off the pace) for 3/4 of the race. He won for fun because he was rated. I'm only responding back because you make yourself sound like you know what you're talking about. I am hear to tell the world......you don't.

  • He sat right behind the leaders in the Derby by the way you loser.. I have forgotten more about horse racing than your teenie tiny little brain will ever know. You have made a retard of yourself. As per usual.

  • He was 5th/ 6th all the way around the track in the Derby- not out front. I can't believe I have to keep repeating myself- you must really be stupid. Way to pat yourself on the back with your supposed knowledge of horse racing but I have I news for you...nobody cares. Like I said before, I won $1,900 on this race so I must know something. Stop bothering me asshole.....and stop bothering everyone else.

  • look at the 11 second frame. Big brown shied at that guy in the blue sports jacket and guadal canal stepped on his foot i believe. i saw it on tv.

  • setup. horse racing is dirty....kent desormeux had the field for a lot of money.

  • God I remember watching this, what a dissapointment for big brown after all the hype throughtout the day, lucky I never put any money on it!

And then they concerntrated on Big brown and not the winner which was disappointing too.

  • Curlin is the best horse since Spectacular Bid, Fei jó oh oh oh you are a venezuelan donkey and anal fabeto!!

  • The more I look at this video, the more it looks like Big Brown was about to blow the first turn.

  • Alot of factors played a role in this loss for big brown. The 1/4 crack the 93 degree weather. this was to much for big brown to overcome this day. Da tara also played a factor by with the wire to wire which made it worst.

  • The worst ride by a jockey I've ever seen. How do you get into trouble so early in a 10 horse field after that cavalry charge at Churchill? By the way if you boxed the field in any number of exotics you profited a minimum 10% on the shortest odds with big brown out of the money......9x8=72x2=144 6-4 paid $659-144=$515-ROI on a $2 exacta wheel minus big brown. Why cant you find the probable pays for that race anywhere?

  • dude fuckin watch all of big browns previous races. He wins them all by atleast 10 lengths. Something was wrong this day whether it was a preparation mistake or the thing on its hooves came loose and jammed into his foot everytime he took a stride. Undefeatedbefore this race he would be able to take any horse anytime anywhere in a clean race.

  • Well that's just horse racing. Not Big Browns day that's all. Problems arise in races, it's really nobody's fault much of the time. That's why there is never a good reason to bet a horse into oblivion, even the triple crown. At even money I probably would have bet Big Brown but as it was, I just watched this one. And wasn't a bit surprised the race was a gate to wire job by a 38-1 shot. That's racing. He was a great site on the track though. Sure put 'em away in the Derby.

  • I know the co-owner probably doesn't sit and watch YouTube race replays all day every day - but, honestly, it would be in his best interest to get rid of the trainer. For a laundry list of reasons.

  • How come nobody noticed about the loose shoe right after the race. Not even the veterinarian saw that. Looks like somebody is trying to make a story out of it.

  • I think the reason why Big Brown lost was because of the heat and the mile and a half. That takes a lot.

What really surprised me was that Da'Tara led the whole field and WON.

  • I dont know, but looks like the track has a little too much sand on it, i noticed when the horses walked in front of the finish line before the race. Plus the heat, 93 degrees could kill some of these horses.

  • investigate kent desormeaux,,race stunk

  • Duthrow is a cocky asshole, he deserved the big loss....

  • Now Dutrow is blaming KENT, what a looser....

well I guess Prado will take the mount on BB in the Travers...

  • I grew up in horse racing and I've watched horse races all my life. From the horse's behavior, the crack was not likely to have been bothering him. I think the issue is that the jockey let the horse run too hard in the beginning of the race and didn't make him hold back.

I also think that pulling him back in the home stretch was fear brought on by the psycho PETA people. I think you might see this more often in the future from jockeys that know their horse isn't going to do well in the race.

  • I thought quite the opposite. Big brown was actually under a tight hold around the first turn. He never ran hard early in the race.

He resisted Desormeaux's hold, which might have tired him; also, Kent said that the track was very dry and hard to get a hold off. that may have been a factor in Big brown's loss.

  • I respectfully disagree with your asessment that Kent let him run too hard. He was on a very rank horse the first 3/8 or so. He was fighting the jockey,he had his head up,his mouth open, and he damn near ran into the heels of the horses in front of him. Kent had his feet in the dashboard,as the old saying goes. He did a good job of actually getting him to relax by the time they entered the backstretch. He was doing everything possible to slow him down. The horse was rank,no more no less.

  • Two weeks before the race BB is found to have a 1/4 crack....1 week before the race, They announce that they are increasing the strength of the treatment for the abscess and that they are putting off repairing the crack, "to let it drain more". 5 days before the race, they put off a workout and put off repairing the crack again. 4 days before the race they put off repairing the crack again, but decide to work him anyway. The day before the race they repair the crack...AND ALL YOU HOLLER IS FIX?

  • no roids, he hate NY, too hot and Dutrow is so sure he's horse will win (pathetic)

  • Da'Tara ran a good race here folks. Too much emphasis on BB and quite honestly with a cracked hoof-steroid use-too many races ran in a short period and bad training it was only a matter of time before the breakdown. If your looking for a horse that has impeccable breeding-that is steroid free-has superior stamina and has had the utmost care in training....Easy answer here.... Look towards the Breeders Cup and you will find CASINO DRIVE.

  • This race was not fixed as far as I'm concerned, period!

  • at :18 seconds, excuse me

  • this race was FIXED and thats BS. The heat didn't affect any other horses. save it. With Casino Drive dropping out of the race, all bets were on BB. Who would have bet BB would finish last?? There's no way a horse who wasnt even whipped at the preakness and waltzed into the finish "had nothing left in the tank" give me a f***ing break. If the race wasn't fixed the only other reasonable explaination would be at 0:36 seconds it looks like BB was kicked by Da'Tara and that could have done it...

  • dude, you might be the most retarted person ever. Da Tara wasn't even bothered thats why he won, not because it was fixed.

And maybe you should do some f***N research next time before you put stuff down. Two weeks ago, they found a crack in the hoof of Big brown, maybe that effected him.

Oh and btw, its a mile and a half, Big brown romped in races a quarter mile shorter than that.

  • nvrlose37, a quarter crack in his hoof huh? thanks for the news flash you faggot. obviously Da'tara wasnt bothered dipshit, but theres no way big brown couldnt have completed that race. the post race inspected of the horse proved there was nothing wrong with him. Dont you think his trainer would have noticed he was bothered by the crack at his final workout on the Tuesday before the race... f**in moron

  • First off, the 1/4 crack had not been repaired when they worked the horse on Tuesday, so no they would not have noticed the problem. The crack does not cause the pain for the horse, it is the build up of puss(from the abscess) under the hoof that causes the pain. Think about it like a bad blister on your foot, you can walk fine, you can jog fine, but if pushed to the limit, you are just not going to have it....Also, I would not put too much faith in the words coming out of Dutrow's mouth....

  • what are you talking about, I wasn't talking about the crack bothering da' tara, I said it bothered Big Brown. And he probably could have finished the race but he would have finished maybe 8th of 9, and that wouldnt have been worth it now would it?

  • I think alot of factors played a role. But you have an intresting point. a problem does occur from the 18 second to 25 secong point in this race that was probaly what did it.

  • Id bet money he either a-fib'd or bled....

  • This class of 3 year olds is lame pure and simple. On that track a 1 1/2 in 2;29 and 4 almost 2:30????? That's freaking really really slooooooooooo!

And for all you who claimed that Desormeaux pulling up this horse cost him a placing, LMFAO. Go watch the tape, the entire field had practically inhaled and run past BB when Kent eased him, there is no way that horse was gonna get a top 4 or even 5th place placing. Get off the meds. The trainer and the horse may need them but you do not. LOL

  • Big Brown was rank because he got some dirt in his face. That's why DRUGtow chose the 20 post in the Derby, he knew this horse couldn't handle dirt or traffic issues.

After that 1st 1/4 mile he spit the bit.

His quarter crack was an extrememly minor one, not major at all. Touch Gold won the 1997 on a quarter injury that on a scale of 1-10 was probably about 8 grades worse.

Big Broen got exposed and this horse should not even think of taking on Curlin who would eat his lunch any day.

  • I'll admit it, I did not want Big Brown to win. I wanted Casino Drive to win, but since he was scratched, I wanted Da' Tara. (Who I liked in a race on Preakness day!) I said to my friend, "Something's wrong, Big Brown isn't usually up this far. He's normally back in 5th or 6th." I was shocked when the jockey pulled him up, but it was the right thing to do. GO DA' TARA!

  • My mom had $50 to win on Da'Tara. She Won a total of $1975.

  • Big Brown was never going to win the triple crown. He is a beautiful horse and fast to boot, but had he been put up against horses like secretariat, ruffian, or barbaro (horses that REALLY had that spark; that potential)they would've whooped his butt.

  • Big Brown should not have raced. Crack hooves are extremely painful on horses. He never responded and I was pulling for him to win but something wasn't right when he ran. His feet have to be bothering him if he never responded and throwing his head

  • kent pulled big brown up waaaayyyy too early!!!!!!!!! thats not fair to big brown! he seemed to pull him up in the begining of the backstrech! not fair to big brown at all! it took him for ever to cross the wire!

  • if you watch the race closely Big Brown is fighting Kent the WHOLE mile. Kent did the right thing by pulling him up. Big Brown was there at all. When Kent asked him to open up he didn't go forward and Kent made a comment after the race saying that Big Brown is the best horse he's ever ridden so he took care of him.

  • He was trying to settle behind the leaders, but Big Brown was fighting him. He shouldn't have pulled up at all, but he did nothing wrong until the quarter pole.

  • Casino Drive might have won this race by 10+ lengths.

  • Big Brown did not even get a chance to run his race. Look what a mess the first quarter is for him. He'll be back.

The steroid he was on before was not a performance enhancer--more of an in-between-races aid to help keep horses eating, assist in muscle recovery after rigorous workouts, and prevent them from becoming listless. Big Brown's appetite and aggressive mindset were very healthy the week of--and the morning of--the Belmont without the steroid.

  • horseracingfans thank you for that comment on Big Brown.I really hope they race him again. The Belmont was not his race to win but I'm sure there will be other races meant for him.

  • Their running him in the Breeders Cup

  • baybe Nicanor can do it next year;) well De tata ran a great race, i dought the cracked hoof had anything to do with BB.

  • BB will be put BACK on steroids and win the Breeder's cup. Then he will be named horse of the year. He is also best on the outside post positions, certainly not post 1 on the rail.

  • Another tragedy since Barbaro's fall in The Preakness.

Jimmy Carter's still on the throne when the last Triple Crown winner happened.

  • There's a big difference between this bad and the tragic accident that happened to Barbaro. give me a break.

  • Sad for Big Brown,he would have deserved to make history...If he'll going to run again after this defeat,i think he can beat them all'ever the older ones in October in the Breeder's cup!!!

  • I like how everyone is dowing on Big Brown..but haha Casino Drive did not even run! So dont say things about brown. I really dont know what happened but Da tara did run a nice race.

  • dude Big brown had a hurt foot he shouldn't of even raced i love him and he deserved to win he was just like secretariat he needed to win it was just that cracked hoof

  • Man that race was awesome I had the 6 in there but to bad for big brown

  • Will there ever be a TRIPLE CROWN winner in 2009??

  • Nice run by Da Tara. Honestly, Big Brown does not deserve to be a Triple Crown winner after his cakewalk race in the Preakness against a miniscule field with no serious challengers. If he had won the Triple Crown, it would almost require an asterisk next to it. IMO, it would have lowered the prestige of the Triple Crown if BB had won. Not hating on the horse, just telling it how it is.

  • He's beautiful but he just wasn't the "First Triple Crown Winner in 30 years" (For me it was Smarty Jones) The news just picks favorites. Barbaro, Bellamy Road(in w/ Afleet Alex, he was expexted to sweep the whole field and finished 7th in the derby), Big Brown.

  • I'm sorry for what happened to Big Brown, but Alan Garcia just proved the best jockeys come from Peru.

He was so clever to take the lead after breaking because he knew Brown could not handle the distance.

Arrina Peru.... we all are cheering from here!

  • SWEET MY FAMILY WON

  • IT WAS THE ABC JINX!!!

  • I just watched this. It was obvious that BB wasn't responding in the homestretch. I think he was too tired, and going wide didn't help.

  • It was obvious he wasnt responding going into the far turn. And the strange thing is that Kent had a ton of horse under him when he asked Big Brown to run at that point. The reins were tight and the head was slightly bowed and you could see that BB was somewhat dragging the pinhead.

  • I wouldn't blame it on the jockey. But it did look like he had some horse left. Maybe BB felt all the pressure on him, and it was getting to him. I've heard that happen before. Well, I sure hope we don't have to wait ANOTHER 31 years for a TC winner

  • click on my name to see an interview with Big Brown's jockey and a short clip from the Belmont Stakes!

  • 2.29 and 3? Similar to Sarava's (otherwise known as "Who?").

God what a bunch of mediocre 3yos.

  • 31 years and no Triple Crown winner!

  • Thank you for posting! I'm in Japan and the race wasn't broadcast here.

  • Big Brown is just not the champ. If he was he could have won that with the heat, trouble, and the without steriods.

  • He is still a champ,just not a triple crown champ. ;)

  • Word up.
