My grandfather lived in Oroville, CA and under rocks and wood you'd find these TINY little black snakes that had a ruby red stripe going down their back. I had a few for about a year and they never got any longer than about 8 inches. To this day I've never been able to find out any info on them and have never seen pics of them on the internet.
