Hey, what would you say on a scale of 1 to 10 the difficulty of this song is compared to his others songs? Assuming Art of Motion is a 7, Rylynn 5, and Ebon Coast 8
@WTFitsJimmy Hmmm that's a tough one. I'd probably give it a 6 then...but only cause I have troubles with the bar chords cause of my weird boney fingers...plus I did these videos years ago. I can barely play any of them anymore!
@PietjeP92 rylynn is far easier than ebon coast! ebon coast also takes way more finger strength on my guitar too (with the nasty high action). rylynn was the easiest song ive learned by andy. i can play art of motion, ebon coast, all laid back and stuff, 1/2 of for my father, and random parts of other andy songs. but rylynn has to be the easiest for me. i guess its a matter of opinion though.
yeah exactly it is a matter of opinion.. Personally I think rylynn is harder, especially the second part where you also have to do the weird slapping harmonics at 12th fret thing.. and don't get me even started on the last part my brain just shuts down when I try to play that!
Ebon coast is hard to get the right rhytym and stuff, but I think it is a lot easier for the left hand..
BTW, check my cover of Ebon Coast out if you'd like! Remember I recorded it 1.5 years ago or sth....
@PietjeP92 yeah. i agree the last part of rylynn is nuts, my head exploded when i was learning that part. although i don't think the slap harmonics are very difficult. have you tried letting your palm hit the guitar body and let your finger bounce off the 12th fret? that is what i do. i do it since i play the tapping part of ebon coast the new way (which includes a lot more slap harmonics).
Good try on the cover, but your playing is rigid, making the song sound very rigid itself. 4/5
As for the strumming of "only 3 strings" during the part after the 2-hand tapping, it's not going to kill the song if you strum the whole chord accidentally. The two chords he switches from are F and C with hammer-ons and pull-offs included. Adding the top D string will still make chords such as F6 or Cadd9. The song is in an open G6, after all.
I've had the same comment on other covers, Rylynn for example. My reply to this is that these songs are not easy and I don't have years of acoustic playing under my belt before trying them. I sort of started with the hard stuff and obviously it shows. Still fun as heck though!
I really appreciate the advice. I think I have ran into a brick wall with this song.. I just can't do the bridge for the life of me, and that is by far the best part of the song. I am going to put it down for a few months and come back to it later.. Your advice really helped with the chorus though, I have finally pretty much mastered it!
Nice work on this one. I have been working on it myself for a few weeks.. Just a few q's for you if you don't mind: During the tapping parts, are you hitting the open notes with the fingers on your left or right hand? You do a very good job with that part.
Also, during the strumming part right after the tapping part, how the hell do you strum just those three strings w/o hitting the others? I can do it with a pick, but definitely not free handed! Any tips would be be very appreciated!
Well for the first question, both hands are involved in tapping. But for the open strings, they are plucked with the left hand fingers. As for the struming part, I just hold my main three fingers really tight together and just 'pluck' the strings that the correspond to without much free movement, as not to hit the surrounding strings.
Dunno if that makes sense or not...but that's how I do it :) Good luck!
sweet man and u got a nice house by the way. u do the best covers, lets see some more dude, do like hovercar!! id love to see u do that 1 i got alot of that song so far, i kno ucould do it
Thanks, but this isn't my house. The other videos I have are me in my apartment...I was just lucky enough to be housesitting during the recording of this one :)
Yeah. Slow it waaaay down and play it as clear as possible and slowly build it up. Don't try playing it up to speed right away. That and, of course, practice lots.
Nice. First cover I've seen of this song, and you did it justice. As for guitarthing, why the hell should he give out tabs that HE paid for himself? It's a jip for Andy too, who actually took the time to do the tabs himself.
I'll give help to anyone that asks, but everyone knows the tabs are available from candyrat. They can pay for tabs like I did and support the artists.
Man, don't call people a jack ass just because they do not give the tabs to others(for free) just because we respect Andy for his work. It issn't as if this tab is not available. It IS available, but people are being a jack ass of wanting to obtain this for free. Don't you think it makes more sense this way? Why not YOU try giving something out for free, something you work hard in.
Don't worry, work hard to get it! Maybe, do things for your parents or someone and show that you will practice hard after you buy the tabs? Maybe introduce Andy's work to your parents? I find it worth it to buy and be able to play this standard. So all the best man!
thanks butt if i tell my parents that ill practise more theyl laugh a me and tell me that its ot possible to practise moe lol i practise 4 hours a day
"Don't ask for tabs, I won't give them to you."
What the hell, why not :/
dislike just for that.

Oh, also. Some of the open strings during the tapping part are the result of right hand pull offs...forgot to mention that.
