John Coltrane....taking the soul he brought from North Carolina and the class he found in New York City...together and making it a grand piece of music....Luv ya John always
On athese cuts trane was proving to the whole world that his approach to the chords changes would work on any tune. Here we have Mr. Ellington on piano and all the tune are basicly ballards, of conventional structure, and his approach never falls. after this the world knew that trane changes as they are called worked, thereby opening a new highway for us to travel, from one change to another. thanks Mr. coltrane. T.
Is it not amazing how in the hands of a professional such as Coltrane' the musical linguist ' ... how music has its own language that sometimes takes you to places words never dream of !
On the same album is 'The Feeling of Jazz' in which Coltrane plays a series of notes in a sequence so beautiful and so different that it always astounds and amazes me when I hear it. He builds his solo and at the end tries the IMPOSSIBLE and does it! Bill Evans did/pulled off the same thing successfully on 'Minority' on Everybody Digs Bill Evans album.
@GreenBeean So long as one doesn't know the lyrics and just listens to Coltrane's incredibly smooth sax playing! :)

You sit up all night writing and listening to the jazz. You leave the bedroom window open and feel the cool midnight breeze move thru your soul.
