  • Would like some of this for a few days right now.

  • Americans are so cute with snow storms & blizzards LOL!

  • It's been such a hot summer here in the south, snow would be a nice thing to have now.

  • Would paintball in this.. Totally... Stalengrad scenario

  • @PaintballForEver1000 lol.. yeah that would be fun

  • When was this? 2009 - 2010?

  • @Charaht march 3rd 2008

  • @Charaht march 4th 2008

  • looks like a wonderful to stay home, i love snow as long as i didnt have to go out in it

  • why do people insist on driving in such dangerous conditions and getting themselves stuck when the mayor or governor says stay off the roads so the plows can do their jobs much easier but no people in their cars have to make it more harder for the plows and emergency crew(fire fighters emt's & police) jobs harder

  • this is some nice footage

    5outa5

  • The most common temperature for thundersnow is about 30 degrees, it can occur when it's in the 20's or 30's.

  • Welcome to Missouri..lol .. but wheres the thunder??

  • @atkinson661 I don't think I got any thunder at the times I was filming, but there was thunder confirmed with this storm over the Saint Louis metro

  • does it snow a lot and often in saint louis?

  • @kasttt Its all relative I guess. we usually have 3 or four 5 inch + snow falls per season and a slew of smaller ones.... Other years we have significant ice storms if the upper atmosphere is warmer that the ground level air.

  • @liquidstl last winter was pretty boring, though

  • This is pretty bad, but lake effect can be A LOT worse.

  • ever hear things like winter tyres? ;)

  • It is snowing today around here (st louis)

  • GAD I miss the snow ..... and lightning and thunder just makes this all the more enjoyable! Talk about SDS ... LOL! 5/5 stars, adding to Winter playlist.

  • If you think that's a white-out you need to come to North Dakota and see what a real white-out looks like.

  • How did you manage to keep your lens from getting flooded? Cool video.

  • I wrapped my camera in plastic, & tried to keep my back to the wind ( or at least keep the wind perpendicular to me) to keep the snow off the lens

  • O-boy, another claimed whiteout video when it really isn't. You need to come to the snowbelts of lake erie to see some real snowfall and whiteouts.

  • at the very worst of the storm visibility was less than 1/8 of a mile. It wasn't a total whiteout but there were times that I couldn't even see my neighbors 3 - 5 doors down. It was not a total whiteout, but it was near whiteout at its worst in my book anyway

  • Syracuse

where about in the lake erie are are you ?

  • In McKean PA, which is 10-15 miles south of erie, pa

  • not even close to white out conditions... you can see for like 250 meters, but i would say it'd make for messy driving.

not fun stuff if you're late for work ;p.

  • keep in mind that I have the camera focused on the distance... The human eye will focus more on objects close to it... In other words the camera makes it seem like it wasnt snowing as hard as it really was

  • actually, if you zoom your camera in the distance it looks like it is snowing harder than it actually is, you'll notice this when you watch downhill skiing on TV. focus doesn't really come into it, though, because i was looking at pure view distance, you can still safely see cars coming from 250ish meters away (which about how far away the trees in the distance look)

it'd still be a mess to drive in though because it would be slippery as balls.

  • My point was that we had confirmed snow fall rates as high as 3 inches per hour with this convective snow storm... Also, you may notice, the snowfall rate at the begining of the video is probably higher than it is towards the end when I am filming at the intersection.... at the storms peak, I Estimate visiblity is between 1 and 2 football fields

  • i live in springfield mo and want to say great video. it's so beautiful and why i like winter, but that beauty can be deadly. maybe that's part of the allure. love st. louis, love the cardinals!

  • Thanks

  • normal winter weather. Come to finland and u know what thunder snow really means.

  • D&L Rideout!!! No one better when you're stuck!! :-)

  • looks like a blizzard to me >.> but what would i know i live in arizona where it gets to like maybe 45 degrees on an average winter day lol

  • Wind conditions did not meet blizzard criteria. However, thundersnow is still an impressive thing to witness.

  • what intersection is that?

  • How cold was it? and how deep was the snow?

  • 20 degrees or so. The stl metro area got 10 -12 inches of snow in about 4.5 - 5 hrs

  • hopefully this happens this year.

  • NEAR WHITE OUT?!?!? that is a hackin' flurry. Try living in michigan or northwest new york. if you can see stick your hand out in front of your face and see it, its not a white out. what you just showed was at least .25 mile visibility which is childs play.

  • Whats with the Hostility? Btw it was snowing alot harder than it appears on camera.... visiblity was less than 1/8 of a mile for a long time; only a few hundred yards at times

  • Haha... Sorry It does sound hostile. I've moved around a lot and i lived in indianapolis working for the senate and the entire statehouse, and capital for that matter freaked out when there was a forecast for an inch of snow. Its a pet peeve, and I apologize. I must have been having a bad day.

Also people in & around LA when it rains is also ridiculous. It gets in the 60's in miami people are literally wearing coats. Its all relative.

Its funny. I really do feel bad for coming off as a prick.

  • haha. ok. Thanks.......... but yeah; obviously it has snowed harder in parts of the upper midwest, Canada and the North East; But We literally got 10 inches to foot of snow in 5 hours.....

  • I love snow, but not when it thunders/lightnings during it! That's creepy! GREAT vid, though; five stars! (Can you share some of that snow here in Texas?? LOL)

  • we've had thunder snow many times where i live, in Michigan. it's so weird.

  • i remember this day. i poured snow like crazy and i got a snow day!

  • I've tried to describe Thundersnow to people not from around here and they either think I'm nuts or that I'm making it up!

  • There is something about snow in the city. It makes everything look so beautiful. But it sure screws up the people driving who don't have chains, studs or don't want to put them on and get dirty. I think your shot a very nice video.

  • Thank you

  • THATS AWESOME i remember that storm chris, nice shot, i was in the mddle of it, trying to drive home from a party in my car

  • which party?

  • Yeah It was really hard trying to film in those conditions. My hands would go numb every 10 minutes or so and the snow was not only falling in incredible density, but was being blown by very gusty winds creating conditions aproaching the definintion of a blizard.

  • @Vangastl So you were having a party in yoru car? haha :)

  • this storm had alot of people off guard cause of the extreme drop off of snowfall rates to the west and east, and once some of these semis coming in hit STL... BAM... done.

  • when was this snow storm

  • Early March

  • he is right i live five minutes from st. louis in madison county, illiois. correct me if i am wrong the first was 5 to 6 inches, next was 8 to 12 inches, for us in the last storm was 6 to 8 inches n yes it was all thunder snow. watch my video of the 8 to 12 inches after mat. the last snow we this year was a week ago. but too warm to stick this is APRIL

  • We had three large snowstorms in STL this past winter season, and every one of them had thundersnow somewhere in the area.

  • all of them had thunder snow? Wow

  • Nice vid. Where is it?

  • St.Louis County

  • Cool video Chris! Some of these shots would make good b-roll for winter weather.

  • Once again awesome video Chris. I like the part when the semi truck driver began walking up the hill and the police officer stepping onto the Stepup stair thing.

  • 11 inches of snow

  • in 4- 5 hours

  • yes, global warming. pretty late in the year isn't it?

  • LOL. This is from March 4th by the way

  • global warming
