idiot ever heard of starboard rights and when you go to duck a boat you let your sail out so you dont hit the guy. this actually happend to me in a regatta and it caused a ten boat pile up on 49ers. lost me the regatta and i had to buy a new wing
You guys are such dumbasses. 4lm4pN and acksailer93 the narrator doesn't do them seriously. He makes them funnier/more entertaining. I doubt he even rights the scripts. Would it have been interesting if he was talking about how they were counterbalancing the tilt and bla bla bla? Not really.
The white boat was attempting to pass behind Zamboni, but the helmsman miscalculated. If you look, you can see that the trimmers on the port tack boat had eased to allow the helmsman to bear off. Either the main wasn't eased enough, or they got hit with a puff which headed them back up, or the helmsman just got it wrong. It happens, I've done it myself. Of course, a 505 costs a lot less than a Farr 40.
lol fuking fail narration... they were at a good place... the black boat had full priority( they had starboard on the white boat the white boat had to tack)
I have competed a lot in sailing and situations like this is very common, it is expected that the boat on port tack( the white one) will turn because this is a very clear rule situation. Of course there are a rule that says you should always try to avoid collission but if Zamboni was to avoid this one he would have need tacked VERY EARLY which is not practical in competitions. As I said, this is a VERY COMMON situation and almost nobody would have tacked away if they were in Zamboni´s position.
Well, the new Admiralty Law interpretation is that having a right-of-way doea NOT absolve the captian of that boat from the responsibility of avoiding the collision. Although in this instance I'm not sure what Zamboni could have done...
@bessarion123 Well, the most secure way of avoiding a collision in this situation is.. to tack. If zamboni had tacked when it stil was possible, there would not have been a collision. But I'm pretty sure that the Zamboni helmsman took the gamble that the other boat would give them way.
The narrator is a total moron. The Zamboni had right-of-way and the other boat's insurance company is going to wriggle to try and get out of paying for many thousands of dollars of damage to some really nice boats.
The boat may not need the extra counter balancing but it is a BIG advantage in a competition, not only will that make the boat go faster, it also drift less sideways and becomes easier to handle when the list decreases. Sitting like this is standard procedure on regattas. The collision is ENTIRELY the white boats fault according to the racing rules, they should have passed behing or tacked.
Boats that size don't need people counter balancing them. It's just easier to sit on that side since there's not enough room in the middle of the boat for that many people to do nothing while competing.

The narrator is a moron. One the crew were out on the starboard side to balance the boat. Two he made it seem like the collision was the black boat's fault. Maybe before narrating a clip you should actually have an idea about what you are talking about. The black boat was on starboard tack giving them the right of way over the white boat which was on port tack. The white boat should have ducked them to avoid a collision. Next time do some research when what you are saying is going on TV.
@acksailor93 both boats are at fault. There is no right of way under the Racing Rules of Sailing, white was give way, but black should have avoided the collision.
@st599 Do you know anything about racing? Rule 10 of the racing rules of sailing reads: "When boats are on opposite tacks, a port-tack boat shall keep clear of a starboard-tack boat." Yes the white boat could have given way and called protest, but I can't think of anything he could have done to avoid a collision. It was a T-bone. I am assuming that it happened because the skipper of the black boat didn't see the white boat or he misjudged the distance between to two while ducking.
I'm no fucking sailing expert but I'm guessing most of the crew where sitting on the starboard to counterbalance the tilt while turning violently to prevent the yacht from capsizing. So no, they shouldn't be sitting inside you fucking cunt of a narrator o0
@1eye40 Wow, you guys have seriously bad luck. Might wanna think about painting the boat bright red and naming it "Watch where the fuck you're sailing!" or something to that effect.

Zamboni was on a Starboard tack, and therefore had the right of way - the other guy should have "fallen-off" and passed behind Zamboni's stern.

@acksailor93 Rule 14 in this situation, not Rule 10. Both should be DSQ.
14 AVOIDING CONTACT
A boat shall avoid contact with another boat if reasonably possible.
However, a right-of-way boat or one entitled to room or mark-room
(a) need not act to avoid contact until it is clear that the other boat
is not keeping clear or giving room or mark-room, and
(b) shall not be penalized under this rule unless there is contact
that causes damage or injury.
