  • Wow! I can see you Tom!!! Way clearer!! And it is good to see your pipes so much clearer!! Ya gotta take the pipes that you'll smoke. I've taken many pipes on my trips to OR, but many times I simply smoke a few of em. Stick to the ones ya like with a back up one. That camera has a very nice picture. Great to see you so colorful!!!

  • Wow the picture is much better . Tom in HD lol -VAPS

  • Wooow... so much better picture quality. Now we can see the finer details of your pipes! :D How 'bout a new tour of your collection some time? ;)

  • Huge improvement on video quality, colour, contrast and even audio than the sigma. Your voice sounded so much clearer. With regards the Kaywoodie, can you not cut off the stinger with a small hacksaw, just leaving the threads to screw the pipe together? I did this with a couple of mine with no issues. I just don't like stingers!

    Alan

  • It's hard to choose the right pipes for a trip.

Eventually i always come back to the most loved ones

because they deserve a holiday too.

  • Video quality, color, audio are all better on this one by far!! Seems like a great deal.

  • @VirtualPaul123 - I've been experimenting with color (choose 'Vivid') and I set it to HD (not the default). Seems like a good value.

    -Tom

  • "Spit & daudle" lol! That is why I prefer bent stems; gravity keeps it in the bowl. However, I seem to use a pipe cleaner more often! Great camera. I think I can afford one of those. Have a safe trip, Tom!

  • You bet I will. Thanks!

    -Tom

  • Second camera is so much better...picture and sound. Have a great trip pal!!!

  • Big difference in video quality! Pretty hard to believe that you can get that nice a picture at a low price.

  • @Matches860 - Lotsa folks seem to be using their phone cameras and I think it's crowding the low-end camera market, so to be competitive you've got to up the ante. It's only 24-frame 720 HD, but it looks pretty good. Should be a good travel camera with the AA-batteries, viewfinder and sensible size and interface. They got it right, without a lot of useless features.

    -Tom

  • @NWPipeSmoker Someone else mentioned that about cell phones taking over the pic/video market. I wonder if eventually we'll all be using just one device?

  • @Matches860 - And that's just it - 'smart' phones are kinda bulky anyway, so if you can get away with just one device, it would have to be tempting. I'm not a real phone guy (old flip phone for emergencies) so I'll stick with the better quality of a camera.

    -Tom

  • @NWPipeSmoker I gotta say, this camera is much better at video than your Sigma. It's unusual that a somewhat expensive still camera can't take decent video considering most digital camcorders that are for video only have reject sensors that would show defects if you took stills with them, hence why they're so cheap such as the Flip cam.

    -Take care,

    stabnshoot

  • @Matches860 -- I've heard the same thing about GPS, going the way of the wind.

  • @jackric54 I'm with Tom, I don't use a cell phone (or any phone) as much as others, but I guess it makes sense to bundle everything into one package.

  • What a difference in video quality. This picture is super.

I would take 1 quality or favorite pipe and a couple that I enjoy but not overly worried about. I also would mix up the shapes so I would have variety to suit my mood.

    Regards

    Mark

  • @backcountrypipe - Mark, I'm going carry-on with an overhead-able mid-size backpack, so space is at a premium. I'll be lucky to take two pipes (where ARE my priorities!?) but you're so right about different shapes for variety. I always appreciate your opinion.

    -Tom

  • Your video is a great testament to the quality of the A1200. Thanks to you Amazon just sold another one.

  • @jumbosilverette - Pretty amazing for $89 US. We'll see how it holds up as a travel camera, though it feels solid. The viewfinder is pretty small, but a nice option to be able to turn the screen off and conserve batteries.

    -Tom

  • Wow the video is much better and Gauntleys has got a new tobacco by the way take care

  • @pipesmoker1969 - something to look forward to when I return!

    -Tom

  • I take my old best smokers pipe.

    Take care.

    Olle

  • @snuggan1 - That's what I've decided to do with the CustomBilt, Olle. Thanks!

    -Tom

  • The new camera is really good, better color and audio then the old one. Not to shabby for 90 bucks!

  • i love this new cam man it works good!

  • My last trip (I'm in the US, too) was to Japan and Vietnam. Brought a bag that holds 4 pipes, smoked two of them, one time each. I like my Bari's, so I brought two that I have duplicates of, a Bjarne, and I think a Pipa Croci I got for cheap. Wouldn't mind losing any. Never a problem packing them in my luggage with a few different ounce or two samplings of tobacco. I bring a corncob in my carryon, just in case.

  • Great quality!

  • Wow the quality is great on this video.

  • Much better quality on this video than the last one. 720 is good. Have a great time away & be lucky.

    Colin.

  • I'm luckier than you can imagine, Colin. Thanks!

    -Tom

  • you should take your kirsten pipe with ya and some extra bowls that way if you feel like smoking it a lot it is easy to clean and you won't have to let it rest at all , have a great time stay safe , and awesome that you got a HD camera for your vids now

  • OMG...Tom in 720 HD full screen...like sitting next to you chatting :-) the image on the second camera is certainly good. I have a tin of Margate waiting to be tried. Your thoughts on taking pipes for the travels make sense...a couple and definitely not your favourites. If you go to India I would take more baccy because from my experience pipe tobacco will not be easy to find there..oh and take pipecleaners :-)) Have a great time on your travels.

  • @hampshirepipe - I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Margate, Morris. I'm taking a half-tin of Peterson's Old Dublin with some Stokkebye Balkan Supreme mixed in, a bundle of pipecleaners ... half the trip I won't be able to smoke because I'll be doing a Vipassana meditation intensive. I'll try to take a smoking vid or two in an exotic location.

    -Tom

  • I'm definitely a big fan of that Margate. I have about 1/2 lb currently.. It's my everyday, go to smoke. Have a great time!!

  • Some high grade oriental in that Margate! One of my favorites. Travel pipes, I usually take my Peterson's. I've yet to run into another pipe smoker on my travels LOL (at least they weren't smoking when I saw them) So, not so much concerned for about that. Just a decent smoker I won't loose sleep over it if disappears or gets dropped etc. Make sure you keep your pipe tool and lighter (matches) in your checked baggage, don't want security keeping it! Holler if your in Thailand! lol

    Cheers,

    James

  • Nice video quality! If your internet connection is fast, keep uploading these.

I went back home for the Christmas holidays. I took one cob and two "go-to" good smoking budget briars. I carried tobacco in those UK pouches you get your gauntely's in. I put those in tiny zip lock bags. Keeps everything very compact and fresh. I put my pipes in cloth pipe bags as well.

Thing is, for a month on two pipes, in my opinion you need to let the pipe air for a bit in the hotel room at night.

    Andreas

  • @bluepipesmoker I'm with you, Andre - I like to let my pipes rest a few days between smokes, at least. I may not have that luxury ... or, I may end up not smoking that much. We'll see!

    -Tom

  • Much better video quality on this video.

  • Had the same issue as I planned for our vacation. Ended up taking mostly rusticated & sandblasted pipes and smaller ones as well. Although I did pack a Canadian.

Cool camera; I'm using an Olympus Pen micro four thirds and it is quite fun to use as well.

  • Those Kaywoodies are a little different, cleaning that stinger is a pain. I have a coulple that I inherited, I smoke them occassionally. Stay safe on your trip, I would go with a durable pipe for travelling, not too big, maybe rusticated. Most of all, have fun.
