  • NSU's BAND DIRECTOR IS APART OF THE SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY JAGUAR NATION.. SU HAVE OFFSPRING ALL OVER THE MEAC.. NSU IS SUPPOSE TO MEASURE THEMSELVIES BY COMPARING THEMSELVIES TO THEIR FATHER.. ITS CLEAR NSU HAVE SU DNA IN THEM.. GOOD JOB.

  • SU I have much love for the tempo was good, NSU wow the arrangement was awesome the balance was attractive. SU I think over power the beauty of the song as they always have. Not crushing SU, but NSU the trophy goes to you on this.

  • those of u that thinks su version was better need to put the drugs down!

  • SU is cool but NSU is quite nice on this song...I mean both bands have their own styles...the intensity and power of SU vs the clarity and fullness of NSU...

I like both arrangements even though I have heard bands better than both NSU or SU...not on this song but just in general.

  • honestly no smack intended but why are other bands always doing a comparative study of their band to SU. II know why but i will keep my opinion to myself. but here is my take on it i likes SU's intensity on the clip. I like a song with some drive to it.

  • Suck a dick

  • I LIKE NSU TRUMPETS ON THAT.. MUCH LOVE 2 NSU

I LIKE SU TEMPO OF THE SONG.... SU MUCH LOVE.

LET'S JUST KEEP ON PRODUCING GREAT QUALITY SOUNDING BANDS PEOPLE. THEY BOTH ARE WINNERS. HBCU ALL DAY

  • @50420052908 stop ridin the fence and pick a side

  • Gotta give this one to SU...NSU did have some nice chords but in SU the parts blended better as a Band...n NSU" the balance was def there but the parts didnt come together as well...jus sounded like differnt parts almost like solos through out the song...just my opinion, both bands hit it though

  • I give Props to Akio's Original

  • @BodaciousBlack Hold on. My rookie Bro Kio wrote this for the Legion? Craziness!!!

  • SU!! cant nobody fuck wit that Jukeox....NSU plays like a bunch of squares no soul at all. they had nice trumpets though

  • @LouisJr no soul? really? you dont get out much to know there is more to music than just being loud and playing with no dynamic contrass you have shown yourself to be musically inefficient to even understand the concept of playing with soul,

  • @TravelerofFortune all su fans think the louder a band is, the better they are. they havent a clue about precision, balance, power or the distinction between noise and sound. that's why no one outside of their lil world takes them serious. all they can truly due is play loud. their field shows are high school at best, the musicianship is absent at best.

  • @mormana say it again pleeeaaase! love this comment

  • @mormana U JUST TOLD THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY 1 THINKING THAT

  • Of course NSu never gets their proper respect. True talent rarely gets recognized

and respected NSU is the best HBCU band of all time!!

  • SU- overbaring a lil i need to hear all parts at points i cant cause anther section is blowing over an important melody or baseline

    NSU- CLEAN amd POWERFUL

  • MAN, NSU IS SOOOOO CLEAN!!! IT MAKE YOU FALL INTO THE SONG.....

  • nsu sounds petite

  • N.SU., lysol clean.

  • su got it

  • ill let the vid speak for itself

  • THIS IS A HARD 1........ I LOVE BOTH BANDS AND THEY SOUND GREAT I LOVE NSU BUT SU SOUND CLOSE TO THE REAL SONG. I PICK SU

  • Again balanace and clarity

  • Key word: Balance

    AEA

  • i can hear NSUs tubas but i never hear southerns tubas they really suck

  • NSU!!

  • SU sound great...But NSU trombones wow y'all sound wonderful

  • SU easily,,are u kiddin?

  • NSU sounds great but the carnel knighten version is more challenging especially for my instrument(tube) due to the strands of triplets ranging from the staff B flat and ending with the high b flat lol its also the version we play at memorial high school so i gotta give it to southern but nsu is still nice....but aint neither one of em fuckin wit my skoo!!! (PVAMU BOUND!!!)

  • you on crack...lol

  • I doubt that lol....... triplets aint hard to play....... all u really hear are block chords from SU and Nsu gives you balance.......and dynamics OMG!

  • NSU just killed!! very tasteful

  • Both arrangements are great. But NSU bassline is really holdin it down because they play the lower register of the bassline in the begininng and high later in the sound and still doing there thing. I was playing tuba that year. And the fact that NSU isn't blowing the brick out of the song is great.

    B Phi B 05

  • NSU won this one...to me, they were a lot more technical and had more musicality than SU....The arrangement was better and cleaner too

  • anybody went 2 school wt scooby n 97 he played snair drum his freshman year at su

  • JAGS REAL STRONG nsu very nice

  • smh first of all..you got a dude on here who gonna be a rookie this coming year for Norfolk already claiming it. that type of stuff wont happen at SU.

the only problem i have with SU's version are the tubas at the beginning..other than that it was a tie

  • Lol there are only a few things that makes NSU's version better than southerns. Both sound fine but SU wrote more for power so they left out some of the little things in the song. NSU and all their extra embellishments help make it sound more of the original song. But thats bout it really, because NSU aint blowing the song at you it makes the overall package sound better but neither version is really that hot. but thats just my opinion

  • Su- more powerful in your face arrangement.. Drill tune/tempo

Nsu- more jazzy and soulful concert-ish type.

  • Honestly,

NSU has a better arrangement of the song. It is more like the song itself and fit for the stands. SU's version is more chopped up and for the field. They both sound good. I am the biggest Human Jukebox fax but I'd say NSU got this one because of their arrangement. SU have the power obviously.

SU is the better band though. Even the worst band may have a better arranged song than the best band. It doesnt mean they are better than the best. I am surprised at NSU though

  • The Legion is full of beasts. Always have been - even back in the CIAA days. And I know this very well. They don't get the hype they deserve, but that's mainly because they don't beat their chests telling everyone how great they are. I like that about them. NSU's screamers can go toe-to-toe with a-n-y-b-o-d-y. Please believe me on that.

  • @BassClefKilla I definitely agree, see the thing about that beat their chest thing is that they are so humble when it comes to it. Bands that beat their chest about everything they don't even be up to standard but it's these quiet bands that you've got to watch out for.

  • I've been a SU fan since the mid 80s, but NSU's version sounds better. SU's screamers have more power, but that's the problem - power doesn't make you a better screamer. NSU's screamers are cleaner. And the brass tubas make a huge difference to the overall balance.

  • No comparison here!!!!! You can't stand in front of a brass band and record!!!!!! The sound coming from Southern will over power your cam!!!! You have to be at a distance with a cam to get good audio footage of southern!!!!!!! Now I'm not a southern fan at all, but I"ve sat acroos from them for 4 years during my band career and I love that brass sound!!!!!

  • yea the "legion" took this W hands down ! im a big fan of the "S" but i believe even thee most bias person from the juke should be able to admit this L.the legion sounds alot cleaner.the bass line is full yet not to cluttered and the band overall was well balanced.i think the juke has to much power on this song ! overblowing throughout the whole song.

  • NSU is way better and cleaner.......all SU does is scream...

  • i love to see NSU! because i know that NSU has not 1 but 3 Southern Alumni over their band program! go figure! Go JAGS! no matter how you cut it! its all about Southern!! All eyes on SU!

  • SU needs to change some things, ey?

I guess they have to figure out a different way to kick the SWAC and meac's arse for 40+ years, huh?

SU's version is made for drilling on the field. Nothing more...nothing less. That's why it's uptempo and blowing from beginning to end. NSU's version is nice...but, it's more of a feature arrangment.

SU is not worried about one song. Esp, when there was already another HOF version in it's history.

  • su did wat now??? for 40+ wat now??? lol funny bro

  • kicking the Meac's arse???

I guess if you consider blowing your brains out with no regard for musicianship kicking arse.

    Yeah...ya'll got it...lol

Regardless if its a drill peice or standup tune...a true musician knows how to adapt. You just dont say..."welp...its for the field...let me crank this mug!" smh

  • su has a "good band " they jus need need to change somthings. like there percussion section still sound like they in the 80's no dis but yall need to upgrade. fo real. and the legion has its faults to its jus hard to find. (Rookie year 09)

  • i gotta metro dome idk why they speed up always but SU does , NSU stays on the pace set always i guess cause u can hear the bass line

  • It seems as the song is a bit rushed and the everyone isn't listening to one another. First and foremost, SU bassline is terrible and doesn't have any structure. From there on its just a trainwreck.

  • to hear su play on clips that are not distorted, go to humanjukebox website.

most su videos on youtube are bad ones posted by haters.

  • NSU won it by the arrangement hands down

  • the su video sound distorted and you cant compare the two bands unless you have heard them in person because videos can be very decieving.

  • iTS TWO DIFFERENT STYLES OF THE SONG BRUH...

  • nsu clearly spanked that ass there was no comparison nsu was the better of the two and thats just real!!!!!

  • i love SU, i got to give it to NSU. they arrangement is beautiful and its clean and balance

  • no comparison

  • You are right.

    NSU wins be default.

  • More than 34k will be at each and every one of those games. Many of these games could double what you all play too at home in attndance.

I even think if we had to play in LSU's 97,000 seat tiger stadium we could fill and the band could drive a crowd wild. These are events where the band has to work extra hard to drive the crowds. The attendance will be bigger than most of your games....

  • what the fuck does a stadium have to do with comparing arrangments, you got so into yourself you went off the far-end and completely left the topic, get it together man!!!!!! this "comparison" all depends what you have a taste for, aggessive or well-rounded.

  • IT's like comparing department stores to boutiques...one caters to the masses and another specializes....you figure out where your band fits in. i know where S.U. is... i think the true experiance is to witnes each in person.. See you soon in Baton Rouge.

  • i know where nsu fits in and its beyond your knowledge what they are caplable of doing to bands they're caught with your pants down, so lets not get on that, the only way you'll see nsu at baton rouge is if they were on your schedule which they are not but your talkin a fantasy battle that would probably never happen but best believe it will not be an easy one if it did.

  • it's all about the total show! a band is aband is a band whne they sound and look like NSU, but when look and listen at SU you get a total package " The Human Jukebox".... witness the crowd that has gathered in the clip. It's all about show.

  • don't try to make this a one-sided arguement, the legion can put on a show just as powerful and entertaining as SU look at "NSU HONDA BOTB 2007". but until the day these two bands meet everything we say is just talk. this arguement is pointless to continue

  • you can't tell me NSU has a better arrangement when the Baritone and F-Horn part is pretty much no where to be found. it basically sounds like the trombones and trumpets are just alternating the melody.

  • Balance is the word here.

All the instruments know their place.

And you have a terrible ear if you can't hear those parts. They are quite clear. Perhaps you should try typing &fmt=18 at the end of the URL for better quality.

  • The SU version can motivate a crowd to listen to the band. especially when they play for crowds of 40-50K at home and larger crowds on the road. The SU version is fine for what its is. NSU is good for their quant little stadium.

  • Quaint???...Little??? get your facts straight bruh...Dick Price holds 34,000 Mumford holds 28,000. LOL @ Your logic and that continuous FFF arrangement with no climax

  • Check you stats son 28K permanant seats at mumford but temp seats are always in place to bring the crowds total to near 40K plus. and the fact that an SU raod game can bring crowds of well over 50K, ie SU @JSU memorial staium, SU vs GSU in the Superdome, or SU vs TXSU or PVU in hosuton A Reliant stadium.. we can pack a dome of huge stadium so we are use to LARGE crowds.... can the MEac school say that? The band is to entertain huge noisey crowds

  • You are missing the point. Forget about temp seats...you said NSU has a small and quaint stadium, when in fact the stadium is quite larger than yours. We can also bring in extra seating...so can every stadium.

  • Stadium is being expanded now. SU is not known as the "Jaguar nation" just because have a smaller stadium....our road games exceed some home games in attendance and the are hugely dominated by our fans. 2008 games to watch SU vs Tennesse state 9/6/08, SU vs Jackson state 10/4/08,SU vs Prairie view 10/25/08, SU vs Alabama state 11/15/08,and of course the classic SU vs GSU 11/29/08.

  • NSU was definitely better. The problem with southern is that all their songs are too predictable. Most of them sound the same. Their beginning was way too power. And the trombones shouldn't have been playing power chords that early. NSU was powerful, but at the same time it was ear pleasing. You could hear ALL the instruments and it didn't sound like a they were fighting over who would be heard must--like southern.

    Good Job NSU.

  • but for reals.nsu version.was alot balanced.you could here the drumline setting the beat.

  • both are hell of good! both jus a different way of playin it! down here in da south we crank! up there i guess their more musical! but both still sound good!!!

  • SU screams too damn much. Every f'n song it's the same thing. Trumpets and horns reaching and blasting their heads off. NSU's version is way more balanced, more musical and much better lower brass.

  • Arent we bands arent we supposed to be musical? Yes being powerful is a key factor as fars as HBCU is concerned but i thought being musical and clean was good

  • becuase southern is the voice of the south fool.

most people down here crank volume.instead of just being all musically complex and stuff

  • A musician's first priority (singer or instrumentalist) is to hit the notes clean. Volume means nothing if it's nasty. But i guess that's too musically complex for southern to comprehend.

  • well obviously you guess like a little conceited bitch.

im not knocking you at all man.

  • Thats a nice remix by NSU! nice job to the 3 SU grads/alumni who are directors at NSU! it betta sound nice! Go JAGS! SU has an influence on most of all these blk marching bands!

  • NSU has always sounded great. If anything, the Legion has influenced the Adams, Sandford and Zachary. If you notice...NSU sounds nothing like SU. Take that for your clue to who have influenced who.

  • Why does SU have to play everything FFF? When they got to the climax...there was none because the began the song with the same intensity. IMO that's an example of poor leadership from above. They should be teaching these kids how to be musicians.

  • Sadly the Begining was louder then the rest of the song from SU

  • That's exactly what I'm saying. There was no transition at all, no movement, and no dynamics. Straight fortissimo.

  • NSU the harmonic bed knows its place as the structure to support the melody not to be blasted over the melody you can hear nsu's percussion grooving but staying within the context of the song again knowing its place in the music which is rare in many marching bands these days also listen after the intro when the lower brass(t-bones) pass the melody to the upper voices the transition is very smooth and you dont hear another section blasting out another verse NSU's musicality is hittin

  • that 100% correct.i couldn't have said it better

  • I love the hell out NSU's t-bones...They're the best in the business if u ask me

  • u cant ever hear SUs tubas lol

  • They need to get rid of them damn small bore fiberglass pieces of SHYT....

  • @alexbhs757 the tuba part aint meant to be blown all outta proportion...i mean if you listen to the real song you dont hear the bassline pounding over her voice

  • *not

  • I like NSU's version much better than SU...Its mot as "busy"

  • I will have to go with NSU on this one as well. They have a nice groove and the trombone part give is a nice edge and Bodatious Basses makes a big differance. You have to have bass. SU has all those tubas and they were no where to be found. Got to have the foundation!

  • Norfolk has a groovy ass arrangment.

  • NSU... hands down

  • Norfolk all the way. Southern winning the sound/tone or arrangement battle is rare (not extremely tough). I like Southern but Norfolk won this one.

  • Su's voicing was kinda off. It sounds kinda mushed together

  • Norfolk State All The Way!

  • No one can touch Southern's arrangement for this song.

  • i go to southern and im from norfolk...umm...nu did get wit it but as a over all band i like su style.

  • idk i like SU

  • NSU all the way. theres more going on with their arrangement than su's. the legion wins it for me...

  • LOL I DON'T KNOW. I love Norfolk's version.
