@Bank4447 Best times are either April for Lao New Year or Sept/October for the boat races. You will be out of the rainy season too but its tropical all year round. Good luck and enjoy!
@laonou Good to hear. I am related to them too and just spent a week with them last week. They are doing fine. Gonna open up a pharmacy soon. I guess everyone in Ban Phan Luang is related. LOL. And there is something new in the neighborhood... something called.....paved roads. They love it.
@cpmaharath Kop Jai Der. I am in Vientiane now and ready for another Pi Mai Lao in Luang Prabang. And by the, I thought you were Sao Vientiane? Not LP.
Yeah I went back last year too. I left since 1981 wow a lot of changes. I am going back again this year in October or November boonthatluang. I felt bad I did not have video cam with me. Thanks again for sharing
@Love2hear80s Kop Jai Der. We sort of share the same feeling. I went back again late last year. The new videos of that are up if you want to check it out. Take care.
2 Monks seemed to reach into their food containers, got a fistful of rice & whatever else that came with the rice, to give to one or two hungry children. It made me smile & sadden at the same time: to see children begging from Monks, & to see the Monks handing out their meager rations for the day like that to those hungry children. I was born about 20 or so miles from this age-old town of Luangprabang 45 years ago; but, sadly, I've never been back to visit it. So, thanks for the video.
@HenryDavidT -Rice is the traditional daily offerings to the monks. Now with LP being a tourist destination, vendors are selling the rice to the tourist. LP has changed so much, many of the native LP like us left and so many others moved in, especially the minorities like the kids getting the rice to take back to their families. My heart belongs in LP. You should go back one day like I did. It is a mixed of emotions I can't explain, combining fun, happiness, awe, sadness, and anger. New vdo soon.
@kayjitt I think it was a whopping $12 to ride the boat all the way to Luang Prabang. I would have paid any amount because it was the most scenic boat ride ever. Two day trip with a stopover at Pak Beng to sleep.
Oh come on Alex, not that I make ton of money but that's nothing. Wife and I rented a 250cc dirtbike from Vientiane for $20/day to do north-south on Route13 which I thought it was cheap and great.
@cyber69269 You mean the Sands casino in Atlantic City??? Hmm..maybe. Houy Xai was a brief stay to catch my slow boat. I like that town, gotta go back
Amazing pics and VDOs. Surprisingly num song was dirty on the VDO, Num song was clean and clear during my 1 year staying in Vangvieng. Only raining season the water is bad. Thanks for sharing.
@khonlaoUSA . I think it just rained a couple of days earlier. Laos was going thru a drought when I got there in April. When the water is brown, does not necessary mean its dirty.
Well, as I said over coffee, I'd write you when I got home. Take care of yourself and best of luck.
